The branch of knowledge that records and analyzes past events.

The palaeolithic was the longest period of history. It started with the appearance of the first human being, with the discovery of farming.

HOW PALAEOLITHIC PEOPLE LIVE

They lived in small groups of 20 or 30 people. They lived in caves or made simple shelters with branches and animal skins.

PALAEOLITHIC IN SPAIN.

The Iberian Peninsula was already inhabited during the palaeolithic Period. Archaeoligists have found many prehistory artefacts, such as stone axes and arrowhead.Some of the most important discoveries from the Palaeolithic Period are cave paintings

PAINTINGS CAN TELL US MANY THINGS.

Palaeolithic people hunted large mammals, such as bison, mammoths and horses.

They camped along large rivers and near seacoasts.

Some of the most famous cave paintings in the world are in the Altamira caves. In these paintings, we can see huntings scenes with lots of animals. The paintings are quite realistic and they use various colours. They often follow the natural contours of the cave walls.

START OF THE ANCIENT WORLD

The Ancient world began with the invention of writing in Mesopotamia and Egypt around the year 3000 BC.

GREECE

The Ancient Greek civilization lasted from the 9th to the 3rd centuries BC. The Greeks were the first people to have a political system based on democracy.Culture was very important and their architecture, sculpture and literature were very advanced.

was a group of small states that developed after 800BC. The Greeks invented an early form of democraticy. There were many great philosophers,writes and artists.

Greek culture had a great influence on Rome. The term classical culture refers to Greek and Roman ideas that are still important to us today.

EGYPT

Egypt developed next to the River Nile and its kings, called pharaons, built great monuments like the pyramids . It was ruled by powerful kinds called pharaohs.

The Egyptians invented a type of writing called hieroglyphics. They created magnificent buildings, such as the Pyramids.

Rome

The Romans conquered many territories between the 3rd century Bc and the 1st.

Their language was latin.

They governed according to the Roman law and built great cities with temples, teathres, baths and roads and aqueducts.

In the year 476 Germanic people invaded Rome.

This was the end of the Roman empire and the Ancient World.
