Adoption of Minutes: Moved by Susan Ruttan, seconded by Mike Keast, that the minutes of the February 13, 2018, UCE Board meeting be approved. CARRIED.

Approval of Agenda: Moved by Mike Keast, seconded by Davie Rae, that the March 14, 2018, UCE Board meeting agenda be adopted with one addition. CARRIED.

NEW BUSINESS

Selecting Alexander/Potter award winners

AGM Planning

The Annual General Meeting is schedule for Sunday, May 6, 2018.

UCE Bylaws require an AGM announcement in 2 Sunday services prior to the date of the AGM. Gloria Krenbrenk will do April 22 and Karen Mills will do April 29.

AGM 101 - an after service information session is scheduled for April 29, 2018.

We would like to try a different physical set-up for the AGM, perhaps more in-the-round. As there is no controversial business that we know of, we can make this AGM more about celebrating and looking forward. Karen Mills will find a couple of people to organize lunch. Mike volunteered to go to Costco if needed. Lauren Kay will be asked whether the youth would be interested in providing child care during the meeting.

Unitarian Church of EdmontonBoard Meeting Minutes - March 14, 2018

Canadian Unitarian Council (CUC)

The CUC Annual General Meeting is scheduled for mid May 2018. Susan Ruttan plans to attend in Hamilton in her position on the national board. The AGM will be an on-line meeting lasting 2 or 3 hours. Susan will put a notice in the newsletter soliciting UCE delegates to attend the on-line meeting from the church or from home.

Ways & Means - Mike Keast

Mike outlined the history of the Ways and Means Committee which has fizzled out. Mike suggests forming a committee or task group to spearhead fundraising for specific needs. Mike will formulate Terms of Reference for such a committee and present same at the next board meeting.

Setting Dates for HR Meeting & Fishing Tips

The Board and the HR Committee will meet after Sunday Service on March 18, 2018.

Fishing Tips will be discussed further at the Board Dinner on April 29, 2018 at the home of Susan Ruttan.

REPORTS

Finance - Attached

Anne Wilson has submitted the paperwork required to remove an old lien on the UCE property.

Ruth Merriott continues to work with the payroll company, which has proven more complicated than first thought.

Committees

Finance - Susan Ruttan

The Finance Committee will deal with hiring a new bookkeeper.

The Worship Committee and the Nominating (Leadership) Committee are not functioning particularly well.

RE Board Report for March 2018

-The month of First Nations Spirituality went well. We learned the seven sacred teaching along with the adults as well as about spirit animals. The youth got to learn about residential schools via Gord Downie’s The Secret Path. Younger kids create a banner for the classroom based on the story Raven Who Stole The Sun.

-I purchased new First Nations books for our RE library. I also pulled the old ones and put them in my office attaching notes of outdated language to each book.

-Once the green sofa/chair get into classroom 2, the youth group and the middle age group will start rotating spaces. Hopefully, this will increase interest for the middle aged kids to come more often.

-Youth acted as service leaders for one service in February.

-Everything is going along smoothly.
