2013 United Way of Faribault Annual Report
Earlier this year, we began the challenging process of reinventing the United Way of
Faribault. Over the past few months, we’ve experienced many new and exciting changes.
With the hiring of Kim Purscell, Executive Director and Jillian Mithun, Deputy Director, I
believe we’re well positioned to better meet the needs of our community. Also, our move to
Central Avenue in downtown Faribault offers us more visibility, accessibility and a greater
capacity to grow and serve our agency partners.
As we move forward into 2015 and beyond, we will be asked to support our local
communities and neighbors in need. We will answer this call through our actions rooted in
philanthropy, advocacy and volunteering. We will continue to build upon the tradition and
brand of United Way and uphold our commitment to supporting the agencies which serve
our residents.
To YOU, our United Way donors, volunteers, community partners, board members, and
staff, I thank you for your time, expertise and generosity that have helped us grow and be
successful this past year.
It’s an exciting era for the United Way of Faribault: A time when we’re
resolutely moving forward toward a results-based, change-focused model of program
funding, collaboration and collective impact that still incorporates the traditional values that
have earned the trust and support of community members and local businesses for
decades.
United Way is the premiere charitable organization in the Faribault area for one simple, yet
compelling reason: We change lives in our community through a volunteer-led effort to
assess our community’s most pressing health and human service needs and invest donor
dollars in programs that deliver results. We’re fiercely committed to rigorous evaluation of
funding requests, high standards of professionalism, and low administrative costs.
The United Way of Faribault offers a unique opportunity for all of us to join together in a
powerful effort to improve the lives of the residents of the Faribault area. We invite you to accompany us on our journey to transform lives in our community.

Volunteers
Throughout the Faribault area, United Way volunteers are changing lives and transforming
our communities. Volunteer activities included working at the community gardens;
delivering meals and books in low-income neighborhoods and to the elderly and home-
bound; after-school programming; reading to children; working on an allocation panel,
committee, or on the board of directors.
By mobilizing volunteers, combining resources, and bringing proven expertise to our biggest
community challenges, the United Way is achieving big results.
In 2013-2014, we had an estimated 100+ volunteers, providing in excess of 1600 Hours of
volunteer service time.

2013 United Way of Faribault Annual Report
Because of your gift:
When businesses hold workplace campaigns,
When leadership givers set the tone,
When volunteers offer their time and talent,
We can do amazing things for our community.
When programs at local agencies receive the support
they need to accomplish their work,
When their clients share their stories,
When the media helps spread the word,
We all start to understand the power of collective giving
and living.
When new groups of people look at old problems in fresh
ways, we are invigorated in our learning.
When children show it’s cool to pass the hat to help
someone else, we can all feel proud of our work.
All those things and more happen because of your
support of United Way of Faribault.
Thank you for your support!
