UNIVERSAL EXHIBITIONS
The Universal Exhibitions are large public expositions to show people the signs of the
progress, the inventory of means to satisfy the necessities of civilization, the profitableadvances, the value of the industrial products, the industries themselves and the
perspectives in the foreseeable future. They usually last from three weeks to six months.
Official participants in Universal Exhibitions are located in national sections separated
from nternational Organisms, non!official participants and authorized or licensees to
provide public necessities.
The origin of the Exhibition is found in the "rench aim of showing the llustration
advances and the goals of the scientific progresses. #ater, this tradition was soon followed
by the United $ingdom showing the effects of the industrial revolution. The advantages of
holding a Universal Exhibition were soon appreciated by othercountries.

was to show the "rench cultural leadership and the fact that 6aris was the capital of the last
