IntroductionOn a universal workplace presently being built on the Service Module for the ISS a self-contained communication system will be made available (CUP).

Characteristics:

n Operational mid 2004

n Commanding of the payloads from ground

n Transmission of payload data to ground

n Direct link to GSOC ground station in Weilheim/Germany

n Real-time operation possible CUP increases the communication capabilities from/to ISS-RS substantially.

n CUP is designed to allow connection to internal or external payloads.

n CUP is well suited for applications from the ISS.
