Situated on an awkward shaped site adjacent to the existing pharmacy faculty, the two new departments – Education Pharmacy and Herbal Pharmacy – are accommodated in a stand alone “L” shaped building located to accommodated an existing incinerator building. The downward slope of the site from the main access road provides an opportunity to set the ground level of the new building at a height that will allow the creation of a lower ground level at the north end. Vehicular access to this lower level is by existing boundary roads on both the east and west sides of the site. The combined area of the departments is 5,645 m2.
The two departments share a common entrance leading onto the waiting area for Education Pharmacy that occupies the ground floor and a stair up to the reception of Herbal Pharmacy located on the first floor. The lower ground floor is used for plant, storage and service entrance. The new greenhouse facilities which replace the existing currently on the site is embedded in the plan of the building at first floor level and is a key feature of the building.
