What is unseen photo festival?

Unseen is an international photography fair which focuses on shedding light on emerging and unknown photographers. Unseen, will take place from 15th-18th July 2015 at Amsterdam’s Reflex gallery.Over 50 galleries are invited to take part from all over the world, exhibiting all fields of photography, ranging from still life to portraits.

Reflex Gallery, Amsterdam.

The Reflex gallery in Amsterdam is located five minutes walk from the Anne Frank house. It has three floors filled with large open, neutral colored space, with delicately placed lighting perfect for exhibitions.

This is our chosen location for photography festival, David’s exhibition will occupy the ground floor, my own exhibition will use the first floor, and Jensen’s will be on the second floor.

Submerged is the theme of our exhibition.I decided to explore this in a literal sense, being pulled under water. I captured portaits and still life images in water, with the aim to capture the most colourful images as possible, inspired by the photographer Elena Kalis, who's work will be sat alongside mine at our exhibition.

My exhibition will be taking part on the first floor of the Reflex gallery.I have used some photographs from the Reflex gallery website to help plan where and how I would like my images mounted.

The space is very large and open, I am planning on having food and drinks alongside my images to create a positive, friendly atmosphere during my exhibition.

Unlike my colleague,I have decided to create a body of work looking at synonymical meanings for submerged such as hidden form view , ignored and invisible, which led me to look at the homeless.

Alongside my work will be an exhibition of nicole Struppert's invisible series, which ties are two exhibitions together extremely well.

Glass ProjectionUsing frosted glass as a projection screen it will allow natural light through out the rest of the exhibition,

also creating a point of curiosity that will pull people in to the exhibition.

Thus creating an innovative exhibition experience.

Use of 4-K projectors

Use of one of the finest projectors on the market will result in absolutely flawless projections,

there will be two images running constantly on both of the projectors.

This will be a uniqueSelling point, and hopefully it will pull people in.

framing

The use of plain black frame's with titanium prints will compliment the portraits in The Hidden series, the frames will be basic, black, low cost and stylish.

The other images will be stretched canvas, With no border.

Large Formats There will be one large format image spanning the entire length of the ground floor of the gallery.

This will be a canvas print stretched over a simple wooden frame.

This will help keep within the budget and crate a massive, Impact on the viewer.

And We Drown by Jensen Wilder

This exhibition is in part inspired by Langan’s abstract figure floating and ideas of the lost self.

However it is more heavily inspired by the idea of sleep and dreams. The subconscious, the submerged self within the mind.

Seemingly innocuous locations are re-contextualised as sunken, hidden landscapes.

The familiar is made unfamiliar. Uncanny.

Here my own home is reimagined and reconceived of as an underwater kingdom.

Display and Beyond

The piece will be displayed via a projector within a smaller purpose built room to limit ambient light.

Whilst the exhibition is on visitors will have an opportunity to purchase postcard stills of key moments within the film.

Alongside this will be the option to purchase a USB of the film in a slightly reduced quality. The USB will also include the resources used to create the piece, so that people can create their own sunken worlds and add this to an online community.

Art Fair.

We have decided to collaborate with The Affordable Art Fair, to put on an exciting, vibrant art fair as part of our photographic festival.

There will be chances to buy prints, meet the artists and purchase other hand made items.

Funding.

Here is a list of all the costings and the equipment that we will need to run our festival to its full potential.Thankfully we do not have to pay to rent the space as the Reflex Gallery have come to us personally and asked us to put on an exhibition.
