Leading the creative team of 100 staff in the Sydney office is practice leader and executive director Simon Parsons, with executive director Diane Jones and director colleagues, Craig Hines, Alex Lin, Catherine Love, Siobhan McInerney, Kerry Fyfe and Nesa Marojevic. They are supported by a practice executive team of Deputy General Manager Shawlon Hsieh, associate directors, associates and organizational staff.

OUR TEAMERT

Diane Jones’s extensive experience in heritage, justice, civic, integrated communities and therapeutic environment projects is guided by the principle that architectural spaces and settings gain their meaning through the experiences of people and by a strong sense of responsibility to the wider community and environment.

Clear design intentions that are realised in all aspects of an architectural project frame her approach to practice resulting in prestigious national project awards. Specific to each project, these intentions are informed by empathy, evidence based research, design –led innovation, and multi-disciplinary collaborations. This approach is demonstrated in her recent St Basil’s, The Grove project at Randwick, Coffs Harbour Justice Precinct and Prince Henry, Little Bay. Diane’s leadership capability in managing large, complex and sensitive projects, diverse consultant teams and multi-user clients such as local councils, state government departments and institutions is well recognised.

Appointed Executive Director in 2014 and Director in 2004, Diane is a registered Architect in New South Wales and Western Australia,

Adjunct Professor at the University of New South Wales, Australia; co-convener of the Court of the Future (research) international network, Marion Mahony Griffin Prize recipient and NAWIC Crystal Vision Merit awardee. In 2016, Diane was appointed to the NSW Retirement Living committee of the Property Council of Australia.

Diane is committed to advancing the relationship between professional practice, industry and university learning and research. Diane regularly participates in professional, industry and government committees, graduation postgraduate design studio teaching in Sydney universities and her team has taken the role of principal industry partner for five Australian Research Council Linkage grants which have tested empirically the influence of architecture on people’s well-being and cognitive abilities.

PTW employs an array of staff including Glenn Harper Senior Associate. Glenn is a senior design architect and urban designer, involved in the design of a number of mixed-use transit orientated masterplans (both in Australia and China) which demonstrate how communities can be sustainable. Achieving public benefit while considering development potential is a key focus. Another aspect of his work at PTW is to facilitate architectural competitions and in-house design reviews. He was awarded the NSW Board of Architects Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship in 2015, this study focused on Brutalism within Greater Sydney.

Student of Architecture (UNSW student placement)Objective of position: Under the general direction of the Project Responsible Person, the Student Architect is responsible for:• Supporting the Architectural Staff in a wide range of functions.• Ensuring the general working environment is of a satisfactory standard.• Supporting the administration team as required in tasks related to architecture administration

Reports to: Project Responsible Person (PRP) Key relationships: Project Responsible Person, Director, Associate and Architects on Project team, Administration team

Required Qualifications: Undertaking architectural studies with a recognised tertiary institution Key skills, competency and experience:• Above average academic achievement• Willingness and positive approach• Good written and verbal communication skills• Computer literacy• Helpful manner• An ability to multi-task • Can work as part of a team.• Asks questions of others in a confident manner. Accountabilities (may include other duties from time to time) • Project related tasks eg Making up sample boards as required. • Undertake general drafting duties and CAD/BIM/GRAPHICS work.• Assist with Bids and Tenders working in InDesign, printing and binding• Assist with general administration of architectural practice eg project filing and archiving,• Participate in design discussions. • Compliance and risk management: Adhere to all company policies and procedures to manage risk and

leverage opportunities • Construction Site visit under the supervision of PRP• Professional attire and respectful interactions

Hours: Student should be able to work minimum of 2 days in a row eg Monday afternoon, all Tuesday, Wednesday morning. Wage: unpaid

You: We are looking for someone with a passion in architecture, who excels, who we can assist to continue to grow their knowledge and experience. You may excel in design hand drawings, technical documentation, computational design, urban design, heritage buildings, cultural buildings like the Calyx, multi residential such as Barangaroo, integrated living such as St Basils, sustainability, or architectural research or graphics or library.

PTW encourages wellbeing and keeping a healthy lifestyle by offering weekly yoga classes and soccer games. PTW also, has monthly news which bring together the office to engage over projects and upcoming competitions on the horizon.

PTW Architects’ architectural achievement has been recognised repeatedly throughout its history. In 1930, the firm won the inaugural Sulman Award (the highest honour awarded by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects) for Science House – Sydney.
