It includes nursing homes, adult foster care homes, homes for the aged, and assisted living facilities for each U.P. county. A list of elected officials is also included. Please notify UPCAP as noted below with any directory updates or corrections. Making a decision about nursing home care is an impor-tant choice. To help guide your decision-making process, Medicare has developed a tool at their Web site called Nursing Home Compare. This site can be used as a guide when comparing the quality of care being provided. Go to www.medicare.gov and click on the Nursing Home Compare link. If you do not have access to the Internet, contact the U.P. Area Agency on Aging and it will be printed and mailed to you.

State law requires that all facility staff and related health care professionals report abuse and neglect if they believe a resident has been abused or neglected. Reporters are protected by law against retaliation. All reports made to the information line are handled confidentially and the reporter’s name is kept confidential. To report abuse or neglect in a nursing home, contact the Michigan Bureau of Health Systems at 1-800-882-6006. To report abuse or neglect in Adult Foster Care Homes and Homes for the Aged, contact the Bureau of Children & Adult Licensing at 1-866-856-0126 or 1-517-241-1944. If you are concerned about the quality of life and quality of care a resident is receiving in a nursing home, adult foster care home or home for the aged, contact the U.P. Long Term Care Ombudsman Program at 1-866-485-9393 or 1-800-338-7227.
