9 Holer LGA Rally For A Cure 2009The 12th annual Rally For A Cure golfing event was held Thursday, November 12, 2009. Organized by the Nine Hole LGA, 138 golfers braved the cold, damp weather to support the cause. The day included a continental breakfast, decorated cart judging contest, nine holes of golf, a delicious lunch buffet and prizes. Approximately $8,000 was raised for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In the past 84% of the money raised has been returned to the local area for trials and to help those who cannot afford mammograms and treatment. A big thank you goes to all who participated in or helped arrange this successful event. Congratulations!

Start the New Year out Right! Now that the Holidays have passed and New Year’s resolutions are in stride, here are a few things to help you get moving and accomplish your goals. Some of the factors experts say are essential regarding exercise adherence are: time, results, boredom, and injuries. Most of us do not have multiple hours each day to spend exercising but that doesn’t mean we should use that as a reason to do nothing. Try taking an hour long early morning class at the fitness center a couple of times a week, you will get your workout completed in the morning and have the rest of the day to get things done.

We all know that if we do not see results, we are not going to continue exercising. It is important to remember that as you start an exercise program your body is going to be burning more energy which may cause an increase in appetite. Make sure you are conscious of what you put in your body and don’t forget, calories burned must be greater than calories consumed in order to ensure weight loss. Routines are helpful because they provide structure but it is important to alternate your exercise routine regularly. Once the body becomes accustomed to a certain program not only could this delay your muscle growth, but you will quickly become bored. Be sure to vary the way you exercise each muscle group, try using resistance bands instead of machines or get out and run around on the tennis courts.

As we get older our joints start to wear down and we lose elasticity in our muscles. I cannot stress enough the importance of warming up before you exercise and stretching out after you have finished. In addition you must listen to your body, it is possible to exercise too much or to do an exercise incorrectly. Both of these can cause serious injuries which may prevent your ability to continue. Remember we only get one body so be sure you take care of it!

Fitness Classes$10 per class

PilatesA class to teach control of postural muscles, improve your balance and make you aware of your breathing.

Sculpt & StrengthenA complete body toning workout that will teach you to use a combination of free weights and resistance bands, as well as utilizing your own body weight.
