Bill Haynes of Gilbert, Arizona has been calling for Trailblazers since December 1996 and has returned in February 1999, April 2000, April 2001, April 2002, March 2003, May 2004, March 2006, February 2007, April 2008, February 2009, February 2010, February 2011, February 2012, March 2014 and February 2015. Our dancers have always appreciated the consistent challenges Bill has presented during his visit to Trailblazers. Whether Bill is calling for his home program in Mesa, Arizona or at any other event even if the attendance includes just a few squares or many squares, Bill’s calling is never altered or diminished — it’s always Bill at his finest. Bill was born in Texas and moved to New Mexico in 1957. Upon completion of basic square dance lessons in 1959, he danced for two years before beginning his calling career when he taught his first class. Ever since Bill has been pursuing square dance calling and promotion of the activity. Bill taught school for a short time before fulfilling his Army ROTC military obligation by serving as a Platoon Leader in Korea for

2 years. He returned to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1971 to resume both his teaching and calling careers. While teaching school, he earned a Master in Education Administration. His calling ranges from Basic through C-3B. Bill has attended several caller seminars with Bob Fisk, Melton Luttrell, Marshal Flippo, all of whom are well known callers. He has been the featured caller at many festivals in the United States and has an especially good following in the Southwestern states - Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. In 1984 Bill moved to Mesa to open up a new RV park, Carriage Manor. From November through March Bill sponsors a full-time A2 through C3B Square Dance program called the Mesa, Arizona Challenge Dancing. Many Square Dancers including some of your fellow Trailblazers and friends have benefitted from their participation in this program and have returned for more than one season. Check it out at ChallengeDancing.com. Bill is an American Callers Association member.

On February 17, 2016, received a note from Lee Kopman: Still calling in the New York Area. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday Evenings. A1, A2, C1, C2 and C3A. Also teaching a Beginners Class with Lilith who does Line Dancing at Nassau Community College. It’s a 1/2 Credit Course. I am doing a workshop at Callerlab, other than that, I HAVE NOTHING TO DO. Maybe someday our paths will cross. Love to all out there. Lee K

On February 18, 2016, Carolyn Ulrich wrote: My Mom was diagnosed with Mucinous Carcinoma Lung Cancer this weekend and life is going to get dicey for us fast. As such, I can't leave her home alone for very long, or very often. For the foreseeable future, I'm going to have to give up my highest levels of dancing that require ongoing workshopping -- Wednesday PM class, A2 DBD dances, Trailblazers, etc. I do look forward, however, to seeing everyone at Fun Wuns, Premier Squares, Plus Dances, etc. I'll be back when I can, but I don't think it'll be anytime soon. Carolyn Ulrich Carolyn also provided her email: [email protected] and her cell: 909-953-9444

Carolyn, you will be truly missed, but remembered in our thoughts as you care for your Mother. It is indeed our hope and prayer that all goes well.

Carol Heins shared: Today (Thursday, February 25, 2016) as my sister, Joyce, and I were driving home to California from Mesa, Arizona, I received a call from the Remington Healthcenter that my father-in-law, Willis, was "unresponsive." It was his wish to have a peaceful death, and that's what happened. As sad as it is losing a dear loved one, I know he is in a much, much better place with no arthritis pain, no loneliness and is reunited with his wife Leanore, many relatives, numerous friends and his son (my husband), Les. I am overwhelmed with the kindness he received from so many people whom he called friends. People in the Men's Club at San Rafael and many church members are among those he cherished. Willis liked telling stories and hearing about others. Now he can entertain the angels with those tales. Willis was 92 years old.
