Sewing the bag:

I used an old pair of jeans, I like this

one because it has a really light

wash out kind of look about it, I also

saved the embroidery for another

project! :)

Pattern note: The template for the bag already includes 1.5 cm (1/2 inch)

seam allowance.

To create the ‘fabric’ from the jeans, I cut the legs off and opened the outer

seam. My pair of jeans had a flair, so I unpicked the seems and sew them

flat.

I lie down the template on top of the wrong side of the fusible interface (the

none shiny side) and cut two pieces, then I positioned them on the wrong

side of my jeans fabric and iron them into place, when you iron the inter-

face be sure not to drag the iron but to place it in the middle and work to- wards the edges, lifting the iron as you go.

Cut two pieces for the lining, do this on the wrong side of the fabric as well.

To make the inside pockets, fold the fabric in two (right side facing each

other) and cut a rectangle of 10 inches by 5 inches,

For the strap from the jeans cut about 23 inches by 4.5 inches and 23

inches by 1.5 inches of interfacing as well.

Place the interface right at the edge of the strap and iron it, fold it over on

itself and iron again, finished the raw edges with a zigzag st, fold it once

again, finish it with a top stitch on both sides of the strap, insert the ringsfold over the ring and sew the strap into place, do that with both ends of

the strap.

To make the pocket, sew three sides of the rectangle and turn it inside out,

place the rectangle in one of the lining pieces close to the opening and sew

both sides and bottom, sew right in the middle as well to make two pockets.

Sew the darts together in each of the lining pieces and with right sides

touching sew the sides of the bag leaving a large opening at the bottom, (be-tween the darts) open.

Place your finished Mandala onto one of the jeans pieces, and sew it into

place by hand. I unpicked one of the pockets and sew it to the other side.

Sew the darts on each of the sides of the bag and placing both right sides to-

gether sew the bag all round.

Place the magnetic clasp onto two jean pieces and sew them to the lining,

making sure you place them right in the middle. Place the lining inside the

bag with right sides touching (as shown in the picture) and sew all around

the opening of the bag. Turn the bag inside out and sew close the bottom of

the lining.

The crochet ‘cover’:

I made a crochet cover to covered the denim strap, I made it first and then

pull the strap through, also I used all the colours for the mandala in not par-

ticular order, I was quite random with it.

Ch20 and join.

Round 1: ch3 and make 1dc on each st, join with a sl st.

Change colour

Round 2: ch3 and make 1bphdc on each st all around, join with a sl st.

Repeat round 2, changing colour until you have a cover long enough for the

strap, place the strap inside, you might want to give the cover a few

stitches to secure it to the jeans fabric.

To attach the strap to the bag, we are going

to make 15hdc around the ring, make sure you pull the yarn tight after each st, ch1 and

turn.

Rows 1 and 2: make 1sc on each st, ch1 and

turn.

10

Continue repeating these rows but using the following colours, green, light

orange, dark orange, purple, blue, green, light orange and finished the last

2 rows with the blue colour, make 1sc row going around the whole piece,

leaving the first two rows as they are. Fasten off

Note about printing the template, please note the template is only half ofthe bag, so you can print the files (top and bottom) twice and tape it or

place it on the fold of the fabric. Make sure you printer is set to 100% and

the ‘Auto Rotate’ setting is turned off.
