COST Policies under H2020
Originated from: The political context of the Innovation Union (Horizon 2020) The inter-governmental context of the COST Member Countries
With the aim to: Encourage and enable researchers from less research-
intensive countries across the COST Member Countries toset up and/or join COST Actions and get more intensivelyinvolved in all COST activities
Counterbalancing research communities’ unequal access toknowledge infrastructures, funding and resources distribution
Connecting ‘pockets of excellence’ in science and technologyoperating from diverse locations in Europe

Inclusiveness under H2020

COST Inclusiveness countries
13
Excellence and Inclusiveness
The Action should have a plan towards inclusiveness (Geographical Coverage, Early Career Investigator involvement and Gender Balance) and develop a strategy to attract relevant researchers and stakeholders.
Implementation
MC members from inclusiveness countries should be /become active, e.g. propose to host meetings, encourage ESRs to apply for STSM grants or to participate to Training Schools, etc.
ECI = PhD + up to 8 years
14
The Action Chair will be notified 2 weeks before the submission of PR1 of the deadline
The report must be submitted through eCOST by the Action Chair.
The report will contain a lot of automated information from eCOST including % of ITC, ECIs, Gender in the Action MC and how these % are related to the allocation of Action leading roles (Chair, Vice Chair and WG leaders). The Chair on behalf of the MC will need to describe the plans to implement this Policy in the future.
Monitoring
15
The report will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and classify the Action as:― Implementation sufficient OR― Implementation insufficient but plans adequate - repeat
policy implementation monitoring in one year OR― Implementation insufficient and plans inadequate – Action to
meet with SC
IMPORTANT:If you have information that is important for the SC to know regarding the implementation of Policy on Excellence and Inclusiveness by the Action, please include them in the comment box. For instance, the Policy is a criterion for STSM selection, Action has meetings in ITCs, there is a dedicated session to ECIs during conferences, the Action has a mentoring scheme etc.

Reminders

Inactive MC members
If you have lost interest or you have no time please
step down and inform your CNC. Someone else from
your country with more time / interest can participate

Co-organised conference, sessions in conferences…
Co-organised conference: expected Action participants (especially MC members) to constitute half of the
SC of the conference. Approx. 50% speakers and session Chairs to be Action participants
(especially MC members and active WG members). Good representation of the Action participants in the audience. LOS and invited speakers fairly shared between the Action and the
external organisation/ body/ institution/… In the WBP describe the added benefits of this co-organisation.
Session in a conference: expected Only the speakers of the session should be reimbursed. Reimbursement must follow the rules of reimbursement based on the
duration of the session, not of the conference.
After a period of 12 months, after the approval of the CSO (i.e. 26/02/2016), COST Countries may accept the MoU and become partners in the Action, only after receiving the approval of the Management Committee
