Upper Extremity Assessment &

Interventions Post Stroke for the

Occupational Therapist

Presentation overview: This course will address occupational therapy man-

agement of individuals who have sustained neurologic injury due to stroke.

Treatment theories and principles to address the multiple considerations for

upper motor neuron lesions will be presented. A framework for OT assess-

ment and treatment will guide the case presentations on day one.

Day two focuses on splinting and casting choices for the neurologic upper ex-

tremity utilizing a comprehensive list of considerations. This will be followed

by small group presentations to demonstrate three splinting/casting options.

Each day will end with a summative discussion by experienced therapists to

synthesize the treatment theories and principles exemplified in the clinical

presentations.

Course Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the course participants

should be able to:

1. Integrate and apply current evidence on the evaluation and management of

the upper motor neuron (UMN) syndrome

2. Incorporate consistent practice behaviors to increase the systematic delivery

of occupational therapy

ensure a timely response. Requests received 3 days or 72 hours prior to course start

will result in a full refund. Re-quests received less than 3 days (72 hours) prior to

the course start will result in a non-refundable administration processing fee of

$50.00 or 50% of registration cost (whichever is less). No shows or cancellations

within 24 hours of the course start will be ineligible for a refund. MossRehab will

reimburse you the cost of the registration, if we have to cancel a course due to low

enrollment, weather, or an emergency situation. We are not responsible for any

other costs associated with attending a conference. If you are on the waiting list of

a course and do not get in, we will not charge your credit card; if you paid by check

we will send the check back to you. In the event that a course is rescheduled we

will provide you the option of applying the tuition towards the rescheduled course

in lieu of a full refund.
