INTRODUCTIONCongratulati ons on the purchase of your Powerware   9 Prestige Seriesuninterruptible power system (UPS). The Presti ge UPSmeets the

toughest measuresof superior design and manufacturi ng, includingISO 9001. You now own the most reli able power protection avail able.

The Prestige 3000 provides a steady, well-regulated power supply foryour computing and communications equipment, while protecting itfrom the frequent irregularit ies that are inherent in commerciallyavailable power. Voltage spik es, power surges, brownouts, and powerfailures have the potential to corrupt crit ical data, destroy unsaved work

sessions, and in some instances, damage expensive hardware. With the Prestige 3000, you can safely eliminate the effects of electricalline disturbances and guard the integrity of your systemsandequipment. The opti onal PowerPass   Distribution Module (PPDM) andPowerPass Isolati on Module (PPIM) have a Maintenance Bypass featurethat supplies power to your equipment even when the UPSelectronicsare removed for maintenance or upgrades. UPSModel andBatteryConfigurations

This UPSis designed to work wi th single-phase, three-wire, AC powersources. There are two important considerationswhen selecting the UPSmodel and battery confi guration to properly safeguard your equipment:

    Load requirements

    Battery times

LoadRequirementsThe load is the equipment to be protected by the UPS. Select the UPSmodel that meets the power consumption requirements of the load involt-amperes (VA). The total load VA should not exceed the UPSVArating. To determine the total l oad requirements:

    1.   Obtain the load ratings from either the nameplate or operator’s

manual of the equipment to be protected by the UPS. Theratings are li sted in either watts (W) , amperes or amperesmax (A), or volt-amperes.

    2.   If the rating is in watts, multiply by 1.4 to obtain the VArequirement (this is the typical relationship between watts andvolt-ampere ratings in most computing equipment). However,in somenew computing equipment, the power supply is

power-factor corrected and the watts rating equals the VArequirement. Check with the manufacturer to determineapplicability.

If the rating is in amperes or amperes max, multiply by theinput voltage to obtain the VA requirement.

    3.   Add all of the resultant VA ratings together to obtain the totalload requirements of the equipment to be protected (see

Figure 2). If the load consists of the power-factor correctedsupplies, it is recommended to use total watts for the loadrequirements.

    200 WATTSEACH

    Figure2.Volt-AmperesCalculationExample

If the total load requirements of the equipment exceeds the capacity ofthe UPS, you must either reduce the number of pieces of equipment, oruse a UPSwith a larger load capacity.

When deciding on which pieces of equipment to remove from the UPS,select equipment that hasa lower priority for power protection.Computers, monitors, and modems typically have a higher prioritybecause they could be processing or transmitti ng data when a poweroutage occurs.

BatteryTimesforthePrestige3000During a power failure, the UPSbattery supplies power to yourequipment, providing time to complete computing activit ies prior toUPSshutdown. The duration of this time period is directly related to the

UPSbattery configurati on. By adding battery cabinets, you cancustomize the UPSto provide enough battery t ime for normal processingactivities.

To ensure the UPS stops supplying power to the load during any mode ofoperation, the input pow er must be disconnected from the UPS when t heemergency pow er-off f unction is activated.

    1.   Place the conduit through the access hole on the junction box

(see Figure 6). Connect the exposed conduit wires to thecorresponding compression terminals (see the following table).Tighten the compression terminals with a screwdri ver.

    2.   Pivot the REPO receptacle guard out of the way, plug the REPOplug/receptacle UPSconnector into the REPO receptacle on theUPSrear panel and twist the connector in place (see Figure 4on page 31).

The PowerPass Module is available in a 60-Hz Distribution Module or a50-Hz Isolation Module, each with a plug/receptacle or hardwiredoption. The PowerPass Moduleshave a Maintenance Bypass feature thatsuppli es power to your equipment even when the UPSelectronics areremoved for maintenance or upgrades. The PowerPass Distributi onModule also provides 120V output.

Use the following procedure to install the UPSwith a PowerPass

Module:1.   Place the UPSnear the equipment to be protected. The UPS

should be well venti lated and away from direct sunli ght orother heat source.

Figure 7 and Figure 8 show the UPSstacking configurationswith the PPDM and PPIM, respectively.

    8.   Two tie wraps are included with the UPSto secure the Y-cord tothe input and output receptacles on the UPSrear panel. Insert

the tie wrap through the slot on each tie wrap mount.

    9.   Plug the Y-cord of the PowerPass Module into the powerconnectors on the UPSrear panel as shown in Figure 9 orFigure 10.

    10. Verify that the plugs are full y seated.

If power cord locking is required: loop the tie wraps around the

Y-cord connections and tighten to securethe cord to the rearpanel. Allow sufficient slack in the cord between the receptacleand the tie wrap. At least 12    (30 cm) of slack is recommended.

    11. If your PowerPass Module is a plug/receptacle unit, continue toStep 12. If your PowerPass Module is hardwired, skip toStep 16.

    12. If an Extended Power Distribution Module is required, plug theEPDM into the power output receptacle on the PowerPassModule rear panel.

    13. The equipment to be protected by the UPSshould be poweredoff. Plug the equipment into the power output receptacles onthe PowerPass Module rear panel.

DO NOT protect laser pri nters with the UPSbecause of the

excepti onall y high power requirements of the heati ng elements.14. If you are using a Remote Emergency Power-Off switch, follow

theinstructionsin “REPO Installati on” on page 34.

    15. Start the UPSaccording to the “ UPSwith Optional PowerPassModule Startup” procedure on page 42.

    16. Refer to your national and local electrical codes for acceptable

    external wiring practices.

WARNINGOnly qualified service personnel (such as a licensed electrician) should perform thehardwired installation.

    17. Remove the three screws on the terminal block access coverwith a Phil li ps screwdriver and remove the cover (seeFigure 11).
