urban dreams i
DESCRIPTION
This book contains most, but not all images from my exhibition in February 2008, plus some more that I had not considered then. This is not an authoritative "best of" collection, it can't be, because tastes change. Every selection from a substantial body of work is only a snapshot, another person would probably choose completely different, and the same is true for the same person at another time. This is my choice at this time. All images were shot with Nikon D200 and Nikon D300 cameras, using various Nikon and Sigma lenses. Most of the images appeared on my blog between August 2006 and March 2008, roughly the time covered in my exhibition.TRANSCRIPT

URBAN DREAMS IAndreas Manessinger
A Photo Book
1
This is an odd book. It would not have been made if I had not made another book. Let me explain:
Like last year, I am attending SoFoBoMo, Paul Butzi’s “Solo Photo Book Month” project, where the aim is, to produce a photo book in a month. This year I have chosen the title “Urban Dreams II”, because I wanted to share dreams or dream-like aspects from my daily life in Vienna, Austria. It carries the numeral “II”, because “Urban Dreams” was the title of last year’s exhibition, where I presented works from 18 months, that also revolved around the same core idea.
In the process of creating my SoFoBoMo book, I have come up with an Adobe InDesign template, that contains all the base structure of a photo book. It is a very conservative structure, never more than one image on a spread. The image may be either on the left or on the right page, the facing page carries a title and some technical data. There are no fancy fonts, no layout tricks, no nothing. Still, it seems to work quite well.
Using this layout template, I can produce a book in only a few hours. How few, this to find out, was one of the rea-sons for creating this book. The other is, that you can’t possibly publish “Urban Dreams II” without having published “Urban Dreams I”, can you?
This book contains most, but not all images from the exhibition, plus some more that I had not considered then. This is not an authoritative “best of” collection, it can’t be, because tastes change. Every selection from a substantial body of work is only a snapshot, another person would probably choose completely different, and the same is true for the same person at another time. This is my choice at this time.
All images were shot with Nikon D200 and Nikon D300 cameras, using various Nikon and Sigma lenses. Most of the images appeared on my blog between August 2006 and March 2008, roughly the time covered in my exhibition. This leaves room for another book, “Urban Dreams III”, to cover the time up to present.
