INTRODUCTION

1 INTRODUCTIONThis manual describes how to take 2D exposures. Makesure that you are fully acquainted with the appropriateradiation protection measures and these instructionsbefore you use the X-ray unit.

The X-ray unit uses panoramic and linear tomographictechniques to produce two-dimensional (2D) X-rayimages for the examination of dentomaxillofacialanatomy.

You need a PC with the Planmeca Romexis program inorder to save, view and modify the images.

NOTE The X-ray unit may be used by health careprofessionals only.

NOTE The software version is shown briefly on the controlpanel when the X-ray unit is switched on. This manualis valid for software version 2.7.6.0.r or later. Thissoftware version is compatible with Romexis softwareversion 3.7.0.r or later.

The X-ray unit features preset exposure values. However,the exposure values required to produce good X-rayimages will vary considerably according to the build andage of the patient. The preset exposure values areaverage values and they are only meant to guide the user.Users are encouraged to develop their own radiographictechniques based on these values. The kV value can bereduced from the suggested value to improve imagecontrast. The radiation dose can be reduced bydecreasing the suggested mA value.

The display values shown in this manual are onlyexamples and should not be interpreted as recommendedvalues unless otherwise stated.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

4 SAFETY PRECAUTIONSCAUTION FOR US USERS:

Federal law restricts this device to sale by oron the order of a health care professional.

CAUTION This X-ray unit may be dangerous to bothpatient and operator unless safe exposurevalues are used and correct operatingprocedures are observed.

CAUTION The patient positioning lights are laserlights. Do not stare into the laser beam.

CAUTION Do not drop the sensor. Planmeca limitedwarranty does not cover damage which isdue to misuse, e.g. dropping the sensor,neglect, or any cause other than ordinaryuse. If you have any reason to believe that thesensor might be faulty, take a test exposurebefore taking a patient exposure.

CAUTION If an exposure is interrupted (e.g. exposurebutton is released or emergency stop buttonactivated), the patient must be guided awayfrom the X-ray unit before the C-arm ismoved.

CAUTION Do not connect items which are notspecified as part of the system.

CAUTION Do not connect a multiple portable socketoutlet (MPSO) or extension cord to thesystem.

CAUTION Do not touch an electrical connector and thepatient at the same time.

CAUTION If the X-ray unit shows any signs of oilleakage, disconnect the unit from mains andcontact your service technician for help.

CAUTION Do not use the X-ray unit in an oxygen richenvironment or in the presence of flammableanesthetics.

CAUTION Never use a defective or damaged X-raysystem. Contact your service technician forhelp.

NOTE It is very important that the place where the unit is tobe used and the position from which the user is tooperate the unit are correctly shielded. Since radiationsafety requirements vary from country to country andstate to state it is the responsibility of the user toensure that all local safety requirements are met.

NOTE Cone beam imaging should not be used for routine (orscreening) examinations. The imaging examinationsmust be justified for each patient to demonstrate thatthe benefits outweigh the risks.

NOTE When it is likely that evaluation of soft tissues will berequired as part of the patient’s radiologicalassessment, conventional CT or MR medical imagingshould be used rather than CBCT.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

NOTE Before taking an exposure, ask any female patient ofchildbearing age whether she might be pregnant. TheX-ray unit is not intended for use on pregnant women.

NOTE FOR CANADIAN USERS:All patients must be provided with a shielded apron forgonad protection and a thyroid shield. The use of athyroid shield is especially important in children. Theshielded apron and thyroid shield should have a leadequivalence of at least 0.25 mm on both sides (frontand back of the patient).

NOTE If the X-ray unit has been stored at temperatures under+10°C for more than a few hours, time must be allowedfor the unit to reach room temperature before turningit on.

NOTE Ensure efficient air conditioning in the X-ray room. It isrecommended to keep the room temperature between+20°C and +25°C at all times.

NOTE If exposures are taken in rapid succession the X-raytube may overheat and a cooling time will flash on thetouch screen. The cooling time indicates the delaybefore the next exposure can be taken.

NOTE If the X-ray system is not connected to anUninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), disconnect thesystem from mains during lightning storms.

NOTE FOR US & CANADIAN USERS:The patient positioning lights are class II laserproducts (21 CFR § 1040.10).

NOTE FOR EUROPEAN USERS:The patient positioning lights are class 1 laserproducts (Standard IEC / EN 60825-1: 2007).

NOTE EMC requirements have to be considered, and theequipment must be installed and put into serviceaccording to the specific EMC information provided inthe accompanying documents.

NOTE Portable and mobile RF communications equipmentcan affect the X-ray unit.

NOTE External equipment intended for connection to signalinput, signal output or other connectors, shall complywith relevant IEC standard (e.g. IEC 60950 for ITequipment and the IEC 60601 series for medicalelectrical equipment). In addition, all suchcombinations - systems - shall comply with thestandard IEC 60601-1-1, Safety requirements formedical electrical systems. Equipment not complyingto IEC 60601 shall be kept outside the patient area(more than 2m (79 in.) from the X-ray unit).Any person who connects external equipment tosignal input, signal output or other connectors hasformed a system and is therefore responsible for thesystem to comply with the requirements of IEC 60601-1-1. If in doubt, contact your service technician or localrepresentative for help.

NOTE Contact your service technician if you notice adecrease in image quality.

NOTE Contact your service technician if you have taken anexposure but the image does not appear in thePlanmeca Romexis program. The last ten images canbe manually imported into Romexis.

NOTE Never place or hang any objects on any part of the X-ray unit.

NOTE Make sure that neither you nor your patient can getcaught or hooked up on any part of the X-ray unit.Keep loose items of clothing, hair and jewellery tuckedaway safely.

NOTE If you have any reason to believe that the C-arm mighthit the patient during exposure (e.g. patients with wideshoulders), take a test exposure without radiationfirst. Refer to section 9.3 “Special functions (i400)” onpage 52 for information on how to switch radiation off.

NOTE Do not touch the arm structures when the X-ray unit ismoving.

NOTE Patients are not allowed to hang on the patienthandles.

NOTE FOR PROFACE SENSOR:Do not touch the glass windows. Fingerprints or otherstains on the glass surface destroy image quality.

5 SWITCHING X-RAY UNIT ON

The on / off switch is located on the underside of thestationary column top. When you switch the X-ray unit onthe main display will be shown on the control panel andthe X-ray unit will carry out a self-test which will last a fewseconds.

The X-ray unit is then ready for use.

NOTE To prolong the lifetime of the X-ray unit, always switchthe unit off when it is not in active use.

6.6 Exposure switch

The exposure switch can be mounted on the wall, or it canbe hung from the hook provided on the stationary columntop if a protected area is within reach.

On the exposure button and on the control panel a greenindicator light will come on when the unit is correctly setup and ready to take an exposure. Additionally, the wordREADY will stop flashing on the control panel display.

An amber indicator light will come on on the exposureswitch and on the control panel when you take anexposure. It indicates that the unit is generating radiation.You will also hear a radiation warning signal.

When you take an exposure you must press and holddown the exposure button for the whole duration of theexposure.

If you remove your thumb from the exposure buttonbefore the exposure cycle is completed radiation will beinterrupted, the C-arm will stop moving and a helpmessage will appear on the control panel display. Guidethe patient away from the X-ray unit. Then clear the helpmessage by touching OK.

6.7 Emergency stop button

The emergency stop button is located on the top of thestationary column. Press the button to stop the X-ray unitoperating in an emergency. When the emergency stopbutton is pressed down, all movements of the X-ray unitare blocked and the unit will not generate radiation. Theup / down movement will stop within a distance of 10 mm(0.4 in.).

A help message will appear on the control panel display.Guide the patient away from the X-ray unit. Then releasethe emergency stop button. The X-ray unit willautomatically restart.

7 PROGRAMSThe X-ray unit uses robotic SCARA (SelectivelyCompliant Articulated Robot Arm) technology for armmovements. SCARA 3 units have three joints and allowlimitless imaging possibilities. SCARA 2 units have twojoints and offer a more limited selection of exposureprograms.

7.1 Panoramic programs

Standard panoramic program

The standard panoramic program has a traditional pathand angles of the beam.

Orthogonal panoramic program

The basic imaging geometry is the same as in thestandard panoramic program but the X-ray beam isperpendicular to the jaw.

NOTE This program is optimized for orthogonal imaging anda shadow of the opposite side teeth may therefore bevisible in the radiograph.

Interproximal panoramic program

The basic imaging geometry is the same as in thestandard panoramic program but the X-ray beam isparallel to the interproximal contacts of the teeth.

NOTE This program is optimized for interproximal imagingand a shadow of the opposite side teeth may thereforebe visible in the radiograph.

Bitewing panoramic program

This program produces bitewing images from premolarand molar areas including parts of maxilla, mandible andrami. The bottom of the maxillary sinus as well as themandibular canal and the mental foramen are also visible.

The bitewing program uses interproximal angulationprojection geometry.

In the bitewing program radiation dose is reducedcompared to the standard panoramic program.

NOTE This program is optimized for interproximal imagingand a shadow of the opposite side teeth may thereforebe visible in the radiograph.

7.2 Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) programs

Double lateral

Lateral TMJ exposures of closed (1/2) and open (2/2)temporomandibular joints.

SCARA 3 units:

Midsagittal non-rotational (L / R)

Lateral non-rotational sinus exposure in the middle of thejaw. Exposure can be taken from the left or right jaw side.

7.4 Tomography / transtomography programs

There are two methods available: digital tomography anddigital transtomography.

Digital tomography uses a one sweep method. A narrowradiation beam makes one sweeping movement and therotation center moves simultaneously along the imagelayer. The layer thickness cannot be adjusted.

Digital transtomography uses a multiple sweep method.The radiation beam makes a pendular movement alongthe image layer. The layer thickness can be adjusted.

NOTE Vertical artefacts caused by high contrast objects maybe visible in transtomography when a layer thicknessof 1mm is used. Select a thicker layer to avoid this.

8 CONTROL PANEL

8.1 General about control panel

NOTE Never allow patients to touch the display when theyare positioned in the X-ray unit. Touching the displayduring exposure will stop the imaging process.

NOTE The contents of the control panel displays depend onthe configuration of the X-ray unit.

To make a selection on the control panel, simply touch atext field or an icon with your finger or a soft stylus. Youwill hear a signal tone when a field or an icon is activated.

NOTE Do not use sharp objects to operate the control panel.

You can set the X-ray unit so that the current time will beshown at the bottom of the display. You can choose inwhich format (e.g. 14:44) it will be shown. Refer to section“Date & time (i210)” on page 43 for more information.

You can set the X-ray unit so that the radiation dose willbe shown in a pop-up window after each exposure. Thevalue shown on the display indicates the highest radiationdose the patient was exposed to during the exposure.Refer to section “Behavioural preferences (i230)” on page45 for more information. Note that you will have to acceptthe pop-up message by touching OK.

If you are using a Dimax sensor you can set the X-ray unitso that a preview of the X-ray image will be shown on thecontrol panel after each 2D exposure. Refer to section“Visual adjustments (i250)” on page 47 for moreinformation.

The display will automatically switch to stand-by mode ifyou do not touch the display or the exposure button formore than thirty minutes. In stand-by mode the greenready lights on the exposure button and control panelindicate that the X-ray unit is switched on even though thedisplay is dark. The display will switch on as soon as youtouch it again.

NOTE The control panel display can be adjusted to respondto your individual finger touch. Refer to section “Visual adjustments (i250)” on page 47 for moreinformation.

NOTE You can switch practice mode on if you wish topractice or demonstrate the functions of the X-ray unitwithout radiation. Refer to section “Special operationmode (i410)” on page 52 for more information.

NOTE The exposure time indicated on the display before anexposure is taken is an estimated value. The real valueis shown after the exposure. Variation in exposuretime is caused by mA automation.

8.2 General settings

8.2.1 Selecting patient size

Select the patient size by touching the corresponding sizesymbol in the Patient size field on the main display.

Select the smallest patient size symbol for a child.Selecting the smallest patient size symbol willautomatically reduce the exposure area and patient dose.The jaw shape & size setting will automatically change toNormal & Narrow.

NOTE If the unit is equipped with a fixed primary collimator,only the width of the exposed area will be reduced.

Select the second patient size symbol for an adolescent.Select the third patient size symbol for a small adult.Select the fourth patient size symbol for an average-sizedadult. Selecting any of the patient sizes in the middle willautomatically change the jaw shape and size setting toNormal & Average.

Select the biggest patient size symbol for a large adult.Selecting the biggest patient size will automaticallychange the jaw shape and size setting to Normal & Wide.

The selected patient size will be highlighted.

NOTE The exposure values (kV and mA) will automaticallychange to correspond with the selected patient sizeand exposure program.

NOTE Jaw shape and size selection is not available in sinusprograms.

8.2.2 Selecting kilovolt and milliampere values

NOTE The exposure values will automatically change tocorrespond with the selected patient size andexposure program.

The preset exposure values are average values and theyare only meant to guide the user.

To change the preset exposure values, touch the kV / mAfield on the main display.

The Select kV / mA display appears. Select the requiredexposure values by touching the kV and mA values. Theselected values will be highlighted.

Confirm your selection and return to the main display bytouching OK.

The preset exposure values for the selected exposureprogram are shown in the quick buttons at the bottom ofthe display.

NOTE Selecting kV and mA values manually will override theautomatic quick button setting.

8.2.3 Changing exposure values for quick buttons

The quick button exposure values have been preset at thefactory. If needed, the preset values can be changed bythe user.

To change the preset values of a quick button, first selectthe required kV and mA values by touching thecorresponding fields on the parameter display and thentouch and hold the desired quick button at the bottom ofthe display until you hear a signal tone. The quick buttonwill now show the new exposure values.

The quick button values are program-specific, i.e. theexposure values can be set separately for each program.

NOTE To view the preset exposure values for each programtype, refer to the tables in chapters 12 “PANORAMICEXPOSURE” on page 62, 13 “TEMPOROMANDIBULARJOINT (TMJ) EXPOSURE” on page 69 and 14 “SINUSEXPOSURE” on page 80.

Confirm your selection and return to the main display bytouching OK.

8.2.4 Selecting patient entry position

SCARA 3 units offer two patient entry positions: Entry 1and Entry 2. You can use either of them according to yourindividual preference.

Selecting Go Entry 1 will move the C-arm to the back,away from the patient positioning area. This full viewposition allows you to monitor and adjust the patient’sposition freely from all directions.

Selecting Go Entry 2 will position the C-arm around thetemple supports. This is the traditional closed patiententry position.

NOTE If needed, the Go Entry 1 function can be disabled asdescribed in section “Behavioural preferences (i230)”on page 45. This might be necessary if there is nospace for the C-arm to move back.

NOTE SCARA 2 units offer only one patient entry position(Go Entry 2). This entry position is the classic closedpatient entry position where the C-arm is positionedaround the temple supports.

8.3 Selecting panoramic program

To select a panoramic program, touch the Prog. field onthe main display. The main display is the display that isshown when the X-ray unit is switched on.

The Select program type display appears. Select programtype Pan.

NOTE The Select program type display will show all theexposure programs that the X-ray unit features at themoment. The X-ray unit can be upgraded with newexposure programs, contact your dealer for furtherinformation.

On the next display, select the panoramic program youwish to use.

Refer to section 7.1 “Panoramic programs” on page 16 fora more detailed description of the program types.

When you have selected the program the main displaywill be shown again.

8.3.1 Selecting jaw shape & size in panoramic programs

This function adjusts the form of the image layer toaccommodate patients with different jaw shapes andsizes.

NOTE The setting in the jaw field will automatically change tocorrespond with the selected patient size.

Selecting the smallest patient size will automaticallychange the jaw shape and size setting to Normal &Narrow.

Selecting any of the three patient sizes in the middle willautomatically change the jaw shape and size setting toNormal & Average.

Selecting the biggest patient size will automaticallychange the jaw shape and size setting to Normal & Wide.

If necessary, you can select the jaw shape and sizemanually by touching the Jaw field or jaw icon on the maindisplay.

The Select jaw shape & size display appears. Themarking on the jaw icon demonstrates the image layer.Select the required jaw shape and size by tapping thecorresponding icon. The selected jaw icon will behighlighted.

NOTE Selecting jaw shape and size manually will overridethe automatic setting.

8.3.2 Selecting segmentation in panoramic programsNOTE Horizontal segmenting is not available for the bitewing

program.

This optional function allows you to take exposures ofdifferent jaw segments. This will reduce the radiation doseas only diagnostically interesting sections need to beincluded in the exposure.Touch the Segment field or segment icon on the maindisplay.

The Select segmentation display appears. The displayshows an icon which is divided into three horizontalsectors (and five vertical sectors, depending on the unitconfiguration). The segment numbers on the main display(1 2 3 4 5) refer to the five vertical sectors.Touch the corresponding arrow field(s) to deselect thesector(s) that should not be exposed. The sectors whichwill not be exposed will turn dark red. The sectors whichwill be exposed remain white.

NOTE It is not possible to expose two separate horizontalsectors.

Touching the arrow of a deselected sector again willchange the sector’s color back to white.

Confirm the selection and return to the main display bytouching OK.

NOTE The image shown on the display is only an example.The actual size of the exposed area depends on thepatient’s anatomy.

8.3.3 Dynamic Exposure Control (DEC) in panoramic programs

NOTE Dynamic Exposure Control (DEC) is an optionalfeature for X-ray units with Dimax sensor. DEC has tobe activated on information display i310 before youcan start using it.

NOTE DEC and vertical segmenting can be usedsimultaneously. However, the right-most verticalsector (segment 5) cannot be deselected.

NOTE DEC and horizontal segmenting cannot be usedsimultaneously.

NOTE If Autofocus is switched on (AF ON), DEC will beautomatically switched off for the first exposure (scoutimage).

Touch the DEC field on top of the main display to switchDynamic Exposure Control (DEC) on or off for theexposure you are going to take.

Dynamic Exposure Control (DEC) automatically providesoptimal exposure values for each patient during exposure.This function adjusts the exposure values individually foreach patient based on their anatomic structure and bonedensity. Switching DEC on improves the image quality asthe function produces images of more consistentbrightness and contrast.

When DEC is switched on the exposure values will beautomatically adjusted during exposure. The kV value willbe adjusted by max ±4 kV and the mA value will beadjusted by max +4 / -3 mA within the available scale.

Adjusting DEC density

If the images appear to be too bright or too dark, DECdensity can be adjusted on the DEC Settings display(i25.1).

To adjust DEC density for panoramic exposures toucheither of the Panoramic density arrow fields. DEC densityis expressed in percentage in comparison to DECcalibration value. The setting can be adjusted between20% (lower exposure values -> brighter image) and 200%(higher exposure values -> darker image). Therecommended setting is 100% (default setting).

8.3.4 Autofocus (AF) in panoramic programs

NOTE Autofocus is an optional feature for SCARA 3 unitswith Dimax sensor. It is available for standard,interproximal and orthogonal panoramic programs.

NOTE Autofocus has to be activated on information displayi310 before you can start using it.

NOTE The layer light is disabled when Autofocus is switchedon.

NOTE If Autofocus is switched on (AF ON), DEC will beautomatically switched off for the first exposure (scoutimage).

Touch the Autofocus field on the main display to switchAutofocus on (AF ON) or off (AF OFF) for the exposureyou are going to take.

Autofocus adjusts the layer position automatically. Thefunction positions the image layer individually for eachpatient based on the position and angle of the apices ofthe upper central incisors.

The exposure will be taken in two stages and the C-armwill move twice.

8.4 Selecting temporomandibular joint (TMJ) program

To select a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) program,touch the Prog. field on the main display. The maindisplay is the display that is shown when the X-ray unit isswitched on.

The Select program type display appears. Select programtype TMJ.

NOTE The Select program type display will show all theexposure programs that the X-ray unit features at themoment. The X-ray unit can be upgraded with newexposure programs, contact your dealer for furtherinformation.

On the next display, select the TMJ program you wish touse. If the program is not shown on the display, you canuse the down arrow to scroll through the list.

Refer to section 7.2 “Temporomandibular joint (TMJ)programs” on page 17 for a more detailed description ofthe program types.

When you have selected the program the main displaywill be shown again.

8.4.1 Selecting jaw size in TMJ programsThis function adjusts the image layer (focal through) toaccommodate patients with different jaw sizes. OnSCARA 2 units the function is available in lateral viewonly.

NOTE The setting in the jaw field will automatically change tocorrespond with the selected patient size.

Selecting the smallest patient size will automaticallychange the jaw size setting to Narrow.

Selecting any of the three patient sizes in the middle willautomatically change the jaw size setting to Average.

Selecting the biggest patient size will automaticallychange the jaw size setting to Wide.

If necessary, you can select the jaw size manually bytouching the Jaw field or jaw icon on the main display.

On the display that appears, select the required jaw sizeby tapping the corresponding icon. The selected jaw iconwill be highlighted. The marking on the jaw icondemonstrates the image layer.

NOTE Selecting the jaw size manually will override theautomatic setting.

Confirm the selection and return to the main display bytouching OK.

8.4.2 Adjusting imaging position and angle in TMJ programs

SCARA 2 units (lateral view):

The imaging position can be adjusted on the Select jawsize, adjust position and angle display.

Touch the corresponding arrows on either side of thedisplay. The imaging position on the other jaw side willchange accordingly if the setting in the top right field is setto Symmetric.

If the patient’s right and left side are asymmetric you willneed to set the imaging position separately on the otherjaw side. To do this, touch the field for symmetric /asymmetric setting to select the asymmetric setting andadjust the other jaw side as required.

Confirm the selection and return to the main display bytouching OK.

NOTE You can set the X-ray unit so that the imaging positionwill be automatically moved forwards for the open jawexposure, refer to section “Default program settings(i270)” on page 49.

The imaging position and angle can be adjusted on theSelect jaw size, adjust position and angle display.

Touch the corresponding arrows on either side of thedisplay. The imaging position or angle on the other jawside will change accordingly if the setting in the top rightfield is set to Symmetric.

If the patient’s right and left side are asymmetric you willneed to set the imaging position and angle separately onthe other jaw side. To do this, touch the field forsymmetric / asymmetric setting to select the asymmetricsetting and adjust the other jaw side as required.

Confirm the selection and return to the main display bytouching OK.

NOTE You can set the X-ray unit so that the imaging positionwill be automatically moved forwards for the open jawexposure, refer to section “Default program settings(i270)” on page 49.

NOTE The default imaging angle (17 degrees for lat and PA)can be changed. Refer to section “Default programsettings (i270)” on page 49.

8.4.3 Selecting jaw side in double TMJ programs

This function enables you to select on which side theexposure(s) will be taken.

On the main display, touch the Segment icon.

The Select side display appears. Touch the arrow field todeselect the jaw side that should not be exposed. Thisside will turn dark red. The jaw side which will be exposedremains white.

Touching the arrow of a deselected side again will changethe color back to white.

Confirm the selection and return to the main display bytouching OK.

8.6 Selecting tomography / transtomography program

NOTE Tomography / transtomography are optional programsfor SCARA 3 units with Dimax sensor.

In tomography / transtomography programs tomographicimages are taken from the maxilla, mandible ortemporomandibular joints. These images can be cross-sectional, longitudinal or combined, and their angle canbe adjusted.

There are two methods available: digital tomography anddigital transtomography. See section 7.4 “Tomography /transtomography programs” on page 21 for a moredetailed description of the program types.

To select a tomographic program first touch the Prog. fieldon the main display. The main display is the display that isshown when the X-ray unit is switched on.

The Select program type display appears. Select programtype Tomo or Transtomo.

NOTE The Select program type display will show all theexposure programs that the X-ray unit features at themoment. The X-ray unit can be upgraded with newexposure programs, contact your dealer for furtherinformation.

8.6.1 Selecting target area in tomography / transtomography programs

When you have selected the program the Select targetarea display will be shown.

On the Select target area display, specify the image areaby selecting the upper or lower jaw, right or left side, jawsize, distance between exposures, standard or full sizeexposure, and the tooth number (or TMJ). The selectedtarget position will be marked on the icon.

Jaw

Select the lower or upper jaw by touching the Jaw field.

Side

Select the right or left side of the jaw by touching the Sidefield.

NOTE The side selection can also be made by simplytouching the jaw icon on that side.

Jaw size

Select the jaw size by touching the Jaw size field. TheSelect jaw shape & size display will appear. Select thecorrect jaw size (narrow, average or wide) by tapping onthe corresponding icon. Touch OK to confirm theselection.

Layer

In transtomography programs the layer thickness can beset to 1, 3, 6, 9, 18 or 36 mm. The list is cyclical.

In tomography programs the layer thickness is always 6mm and the Layer field is not shown on the control panel.

Distance

Select the distance between exposures in automaticprograms by touching the Distance field. The distance canbe 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 mm, and the list is cyclical.

In manual programs the Distance field is not shown on thecontrol panel.

Size

Select a standard (either lower or upper collimation) or fullsize (full collimation) exposure by touching the Size field.If you select Lower or Upper only the selected jaw will beexposed, and selecting Full will produce a full sizeexposure of both jaws.

Target

Select the tooth number (0-8) or temporomandibular joint(TMJ) by touching the Target field. The number 0indicates the space between the central incisors. The listis cyclical.

NOTE The target selection can also be made by simplytouching the jaw icon on the corresponding location.

NOTE The tooth numbering system can be changed ondisplay i272. See section “Default program settings(i270)” on page 49 for details.

When you have set the target position, confirm theselections by touching the OK field. The main displayappears.

NOTE The position of the target area is based on average jawmeasurements. The position must be adjusted afterthe patient has been positioned in the unit, see section15.2 “Adjusting position of target area” on page 88.

9 INFORMATION DISPLAYSCAUTION Some of the settings can be used to alter the

operation of the X-ray unit. Never usefunctions that you are not familiar with.

NOTE The contents of the information displays depend onthe unit configuration. The displays shown here arefrom a SCARA 3 unit featuring all currently availableexposure programs.

The control panel has a number of additional functions forspecial requirements. Some of the functions (Userpreference settings, Feature program control and Specialfunctions) can be entered by the user, and others (Servicesettings, Technical calibrations and Troubleshooting) arefor the use of service personnel only and access to thesesettings requires a password. This section describes thefunctions that can be entered by the user.

• Return C-arm after exposureTouch the Return C-arm after exposure field to setthe X-ray unit so that the C-arm will automaticallyreturn to the starting position at the end of anexposure cycle. Note, however, that the automatic function worksonly if the exposure button is pressed and helddown for the entire duration of the exposure.

• Disable Entry 1 positionSelect this option if you need to disable Entry 1position. This might be necessary if there is nospace for the C-arm to move back.NOTE: This option will be shown only on SCARA 3units.

• StatisticsTouch the Statistics field to set the X-ray unit sothat the radiation dose will be shown in a pop-upwindow after each exposure. The programmeasures the highest radiation dose the patient isexposed to during exposure. Note that if the patientdoes not cover the whole exposure area (e.g.cephalometric exposure) the real patient dose islower.Radiation dose is indicated in terms of DAP (DoseArea Product). The measurement unit for DAP ismGy*cm².

• Enable midsagittal & Frankfort lights in TomoSelect this option to set the X-ray unit so that alsothe midsagittal and Frankfort lights come on intomographic and 3D programs when the patientpositioning lights are switched on.

• Disable temple supportsSelect this option if you need to disable the templesupports.

• Use Dimax sensor for panoramicSelect this option if you want to use a 3D s / 3Dsensor for taking 3D images and a Dimax sensorfor taking panoramic (and tomographic andcephalometric) images.When the option is not selected (check box empty)you can take 3D and SmartPan (SmartPan,SmartTMJ, SmartSinus) images with the samesensor.NOTE: This option will be shown only if the X-rayunit has a 3D s / 3D sensor and a SmartPanlicense. The SmartPan license is activated asdescribed in section “Enable / disable features(i310)” on page 50.

• DEC settings (i25.1)Refer to section 8.3.3 “Dynamic Exposure Control(DEC) in panoramic programs” on page 32 fordetails on panoramic DEC settings. Refer to the Planmeca ProMax Cephalostat User’sManual for details on cephalometric DEC settings.

• Touch panel calibration (i25.4)Select Touch panel calibration to calibrate thetouch panel. Touch panel calibration adjusts thepanel to respond to the pressure level of your fingertouch.A black calibration display will appear. Touch thedisplay to “teach” the panel the pressure of yourindividual finger touch and to make it react rapidlyto this pressure level. Note that you have to touchthe display within five seconds as the calibrationprocedure will be cancelled once this time limit hasexpired.

• Preview settings (i25.5)Select the option Show preview after exposure toset the X-ray unit so that a preview of the X-rayimage will be shown on the control panel after each2D exposure. Touching the preview image willzoom you in for a closer view. Return to the originalsize by touching Overview. Accept the previewimage by touching OK.NOTE: This setting applies only to 2D exposureswith Dimax sensor.

Default program settings (i270)

On this display you can change default settings for TMJexposures and specify the tooth numbering system usedfor tomographic exposures. You can also define presetsfor 2D views in 3D imaging.

• TMJ (i27.1)Touch the TMJ field to change the TMJ defaultangle. Adjust the angle (lat or PA) with the left andright arrows. NOTE: Angle adjustment is available on SCARA 3units only.

In double TMJ exposures the target position can beautomatically moved forwards for the secondexposure (open view projection). Use the bottomarrows to select the movement step (e.g. 10millimetres).NOTE: This setting is available on SCARA 2 andSCARA 3 units. On SCARA 2 units it applies tolateral view only (not PA).

Confirm your selection by touching Done andrestart the X-ray unit to save the new defaultsettings for TMJ exposures.

On the Enable / disable features display, touch the featureyou wish to activate. Enabled features will be marked witha green check mark. Confirm the selection by touchingDone.

By touching the down arrow at the bottom of the displaymore features will appear. On the next displays, touch theup arrow to return to the previous display.

You will need a license code to add a new feature to theX-ray unit. The license code can be a specific code for theselected feature on this X-ray unit or a general code.

Touch the feature field (e.g. Horizontal and verticalsegmenting) to switch this feature on. A number displaywill appear. Enter the license code to enable the selectedfeature.

NOTE FOR SPECIFIC LICENSE CODES: Each license code is unit and module specific, i.e. itcan only be used on the specified X-ray unit and for thespecified program feature.

To disable the selected feature repeat the procedure.

NOTE After enabling / disabling a new feature the X-ray unitmust be restarted.

Special operation mode (i410)

Select Special operation mode (i410) on the Specialfunctions (i400) display. The display shown belowappears.

• Disable radiationThis option allows you to switch the exposurefunction on or off.When the exposure function is switched off noradiation is generated when you press theexposure button. The C-arm will move normally butno radiation will be generated and no radiationwarning signals will be given, i.e. this is a “dummyrun” function for training and demonstrationpurposes. For example, you might want todemonstrate the C-arm movements before takingexposures of children or nervous patients.

• Disable need for PC communicationThis option allows you to demonstrate or practicethe functions of the X-ray unit without PCcommunication. Note, however, that if thePlanmeca Romexis program is in the “Waiting forReady” status the communication to the PC cannotbe disabled. Close the program before disablingthe communication.

NOTE Radiation or PC communication cannot be activated ifdemo licenses are switched on (i510).

Error history (i420)

Select Error history (i420) on the Special functionsdisplay. The display shown below appears.

The Error history display lists the last 100 software relatederrors that have occurred. Additionally, the list showsanother 40 tube head related errors. Use the arrows onthe side to scroll up and down the list.

Select the error you wish to check. The selected error isshown in more detail at the bottom of the display (errorcode and number of times the error has occurred, dateand time, software version of the X-ray unit, more detaileddescription).

This option allows you to warm up the X-ray tube, i.e. runan X-ray tube seasoning process. This is necessary if theX-ray unit has not been used for a few days and youreceive error message E332 (Arcing across X-ray tube).

Touch the Start field. The word Ready appears at thebottom of the display and you can now press theexposure button to start the seasoning process.

INFORMATION DISPLAYS

During the process the words Exposure and Wait willappear on the display. You can press and hold down theexposure button for the whole duration of the process orremove your thumb from the exposure button when theword Wait appears on the display.

The seasoning process will take up to two minutes for 2DX-ray units and up to about three minutes for 3D X-rayunits. After a successful process the message OK isshown on the display.

NOTE Contact your service technician for help if errormessage E332 (Arcing across X-ray tube) reappearsafter a successful seasoning process.

Test exposure (i460)

Select Test exposure (i460) on the Special functions(i400) display. The display shown below appears.

This option allows you to take a test exposure. The Testexposure (i460) display shows the exposure values whichare in use on the main display.

Touch the arrows to select the exposure values (kV, mAand time) you wish to use. Then touch the Test field. Theword Ready will appear at the bottom of the display andyou can now press the exposure button to take a testexposure. Note that the C-arm will not move when youtake a test exposure.

NOTE Never allow patients to press the positioning controlswhen they are positioned in the unit.

NOTE Touching any of the positioning controls (button orjoystick) will switch the patient positioning lights on.

X-ray unit up / down

The X-ray unit up and down buttons are used to adjust theX-ray unit to suit the height of the patient.

The X-ray unit moves slowly at first, then faster.

NOTE If for some reason either of the buttons gets stuckduring operation, you can stop the up / downmovement by pressing any of the other controlbuttons or the positioning joystick. This is a safetymeasure that guarantees that the up / down movementcan be stopped in an emergency.

NOTE Be careful that the X-ray unit does not hit the ceilingwhen you press the up button. The maximum heightcan be adjusted to suit offices with low ceiling, contactyour service technician for help.

NOTE Make sure that there is no object under the telescopiccolumn when you press the down button. If somethingis in danger of becoming trapped, release the buttonimmediately to stop the movement.

NOTE The column movement stops automatically if theemergency stop plate at the bottom is pressedupwards. Clear any obstruction before moving thecolumn again.

NOTE When positioning wheelchair patients always firstmove the X-ray unit down before you position thepatient in the unit.

Open / close temple supports

Press the temple support button to open the templesupports in 2D exposures. The temple supports can beclosed by pressing the temple support button again.

C-arm rotation buttons

The angle of the C-arm is adjusted by pressing the C-armrotation buttons. The buttons can only be used whentaking tomographic exposures.

Positioning joystick

NOTE FOR PROFACE SENSOR:Do not touch the glass windows when you hold thesensor. Fingerprints or other stains on the glasssurface destroy image quality.

CAUTION Do not drop the sensor. Ask the patient to remove any spectacles, hearing aids,dentures, hairpins, and personal jewellery such asearrings, necklaces and piercings as these can produceshadows or reflections in the image. The patient shouldalso remove any loose items of clothing (e.g. scarf, tie)that might get caught in the arms of the X-ray unit.

NOTE High contrast objects, such as gold teeth or amalgam,may cause artefacts in the image.

Place a protective lead apron over the patient’s back ifrequired.

Select the panoramic program you wish to use (seesection 8.3 “Selecting panoramic program” on page 30.)Select the patient size as described in section 8.2.1“Selecting patient size” on page 28.

The exposure values will automatically change tocorrespond with the selected exposure program andpatient size. The preset exposure values are shown in thefollowing table. The preset exposure values are averagevalues and they are only meant to guide the user. Ifnecessary, you can change the preset values asdescribed in section 8.2.2 “Selecting kilovolt andmilliampere values” on page 28.

NOTE FOR X-RAY UNITS WITH DIMAX SENSOR:The preset exposure values are optimized for takingexposures at enhanced resolution (Romexis setting).You can use lower exposure values when takingexposures at normal resolution.

NOTE Always try to minimize the radiation dose to thepatient.

The setting in the jaw field will automatically change tocorrespond with the selected patient size. You can selectthe jaw shape and size manually as described in section8.3.1 “Selecting jaw shape & size in panoramic programs”on page 31.

You can take a segment exposure by selecting onlycertain vertical or horizontal segments of the jaw, refer tosection 8.3.2 “Selecting segmentation in panoramicprograms” on page 32.

Position the patient’s head so that the midsagittal planecoincides with the midsagittal plane light beam.

Position the patient’s head so that the Frankfort planecoincides with the Frankfort plane light beam. Adjust thetilt of the patient’s head by raising or lowering the unit withthe height adjusting buttons. The patient’s back and neckshould be straight.

The Frankfort plane is a plane which joins the infra-orbitalpoint to the superior border of the external auditorymeatus.

The Frankfort plane light, which is located on the side ofthe column, can be moved up or down. This is done byrotating the thumb wheel below the light slot.

Position the apices of the patient’s upper central incisorswithin the image layer of the unit.

To do this, rotate the thumb wheel located on theunderside of the patient support table to move the layerlight until it falls between the second incisor and thecanine. For an average patient, this procedure will placethe apices of the upper central incisors within the imagelayer.

NOTE The layer light is disabled when Autofocus is switchedon (AF ON).

Check that the Frankfort plane light and the midsagittalplane light are still correctly positioned. Reposition them ifnecessary.

NOTE Make sure that you have selected the right patient andthe panoramic exposure mode in the PlanmecaRomexis program before you take an exposure. Referto the Romexis User’s Manual.

12.2 Taking an exposure

When you are ready to take an exposure touch the Readyfield on the main display. The X-ray unit will move to theready position and the temple supports will automaticallyclose.

On the exposure button and on the control panel a greenindicator light will come on. Additionally, the word READYwill be shown on the control panel display. The Romexisprogram will show the Waiting for Ready message on thecomputer screen.

The green indicator lights and the word READY will flashwhile the unit moves to the ready position. They will stopflashing when the unit has reached the ready position.The Romexis program will now show the Waiting forExposure message on the computer screen.

Ask the patient to close their lips on the bite piece,swallow, place their tongue flat against the roof of themouth, breathe normally, and stand as still as possible.

Move to a protected area.

Press and hold down the exposure button for the durationof the exposure. The C-arm will move through oneexposure cycle. During the exposure cycle the radiationwarning lights on the exposure switch and on the controlpanel will come on and you will hear a radiation warningtone. When the C-arm has completed the exposure cyclethe temple supports will automatically open. You can nowguide the patient from the unit.

NOTE Maintain audio and visual contact with the patient andunit during exposure. If the C-arm stops movingduring exposure, or moves in an erratic way, releasethe exposure button immediately.

When you have taken the exposure the image will beshown on the computer screen. Note that you mustaccept the image in the Planmeca Romexis program -only accepted images will be stored in the database.Refer to the Romexis User’s Manual.

12.3 Taking an exposure with Autofocus (SCARA 3 units only)

Autofocus adjusts the layer position automatically. Thefunction positions the image layer individually for eachpatient based on the position and angle of the apices ofthe upper central incisors.

The exposure will be taken in two stages and the C-armwill move twice.

Take the first exposure as described in section 12.2“Taking an exposure” on page 66. The first exposure is ashort, low-dose exposure during which the optimalposition for the image layer will be calculated.

The following display will appear on the control panel andcomputer screen.

The calculated layer position will be shown with a whiteline on the image.

If necessary, you can adjust the layer position by touchingthe plus / minus (+ / -) fields on the control panel display.Touching the plus field will move the layer forwards andtouching the minus field will move the layer backwards.The new position will be shown with a red line on thecontrol panel display. The movement range is from +15mm to -15 mm. The distance from the center point will beshown at the bottom of the display (e.g. 2 mm).

NOTE Make sure the patient does not move betweenexposures.

Press and hold down the exposure button again to takethe second exposure. The second exposure will producethe actual image and the C-arm will now move throughone complete exposure cycle.

NOTE Alternatively, you can touch the OK field on the Autofocus layer definition display and then press theexposure button.

The radiation warning lights on the exposure switch andon the control panel will come on and you will hear aradiation warning tone.

When you have taken the exposure the image will beshown on the computer screen. Note that you mustaccept the image in the Planmeca Romexis program -only accepted images will be stored in the database.Refer to the Romexis User’s Manual.

NOTE If the imaging process is cancelled from the Romexisprogram, Autofocus has to be switched off (AF OFF)and back on (AF ON) again before the next Autofocusexposure can be taken.

Check the imaging position and angle when the patient ispositioned in the X-ray unit:

Touch the Jaw field or tap the jaw icon on the maindisplay. The Select jaw size, adjust position and angledisplay will appear.

Imaging position (SCARA 2 units lateral view & SCARA 3units): Use a ruler to measure the distance between thelayer light and the patient’s temporomandibular joint todetermine the exact imaging position. Adjust the imagingposition with the left / right arrows according to yourmeasurement.

Imaging angle (SCARA 3 units): Take a submento-vertexexposure (axial projection) to determine the exact imagingangle. Adjust the imaging angle with the left / right arrowsaccording to your measurement.

Ask the patient to stand as still as possible.

Move to a protected area.

Press and hold down the exposure button for the durationof the exposure. The C-arm will move through onecomplete exposure cycle and then automatically return tothe ready position. The temple supports will remain closedand hold the patient in position for the second exposure.During the exposure cycle the radiation warning lights onthe exposure switch and on the control panel will come onand you will hear a radiation warning tone.

NOTE Maintain audio and visual contact with the patient andunit during exposure. If the C-arm stops movingduring exposure, or moves in an erratic way, releasethe exposure button immediately.

Ask the patient to open their mouth as wide as possible.Make sure that the patient’s upper lip is still touching thechin support.

When you are ready to take the second exposure touchthe Ready field on the main display.

13.2 Multi-angle TMJ exposure (PA or lateral)This procedure will produce three exposures with differentangles from the left or right temporomandibular joint.

Note that the C-arm will move through three exposurecycles.

Insert the chin support into the adapter. Insert the adapterinto the holes in the patient support table.

Select the multi-angle TMJ program you wish to use (seesection 8.4 “Selecting temporomandibular joint (TMJ)program” on page 35). Select the patient size as described in section 8.2.1“Selecting patient size” on page 28.Select the image position parameters as described insections 8.4.1 “Selecting jaw size in TMJ programs” onpage 36 and 8.4.2 “Adjusting imaging position and anglein TMJ programs” on page 36.

The exposure values will automatically change tocorrespond with the selected exposure program andpatient size. The preset exposure values are shown in thefollowing tables. The preset exposure values are averagevalues and they are only meant to guide the user. Ifnecessary, you can change the preset values asdescribed in section 8.2.2 “Selecting kilovolt andmilliampere values” on page 28.

Prepare the patient for the exposure as described insection 11.2 “Preparing patient” on page 61.

13.2.1 Patient positioning

Press the temple support button to open the templesupports if they are not already open.

Guide the patient to the unit so that they are facing thechin support. Explain to the patient that you will take amulti-angle exposure and that the C-arm will movethrough three exposure cycles.

To adjust the height of the unit, press either of the heightadjusting buttons until the opening in the chin support isapproximately level with the patient’s mouth.

The X-ray unit moves slowly at first, then faster.

Ask the patient to step forward, grasp the patient handles,stretch and straighten their back and neck, and press theirlips against the chin support. The patient's nose must reston top of the support and their mouth must be closed, andtheir teeth must be together.

The positioning lights for the midsagittal plane, Frankfortplane and layer position will come on. Note that they willautomatically switch off after two minutes. If the lights goout before you have positioned the patient, switch themon by touching the thumb wheel on the underside of thepatient support table or by pressing any of the positioningcontrols (button or joystick).

Position the patient’s head so that the midsagittal planecoincides with the midsagittal plane light beam.

Position the patient’s head so that the Frankfort plane istilted down five degrees. To do this support the back ofthe patient’s head with your hand and, using the Frankfortplane light as a reference line, adjust the position of thepatient’s head by raising or lowering the unit with theheight adjusting buttons. Make sure the patient’s back isstraight.

The Frankfort plane light, which is located on the side ofthe column, can be moved up or down. This is done byrotating the thumb wheel that is below the light slot.

Touch the Jaw field or tap the jaw icon on the maindisplay. The Select jaw size, adjust position and angledisplay will appear.

Imaging position: Use a ruler to measure the distancebetween the layer light and the patient’s temporo-mandibular joint to determine the exact imaging position.Adjust the imaging position with the left / right arrowsaccording to your measurement.

15 TOMOGRAPHIC EXPOSURENOTE Tomography / transtomography are optional programs

for SCARA 3 units with Dimax sensor.

This procedure will produce cross-sectional andlongitudinal tomograms from the maxilla, mandible ortemporomandibular joints.

Insert the chin rest and a bite piece into the adapter.Insert the adapter into the holes in the patient supporttable.

For edentulous patients or for patients who are unable touse the bite piece you can use an impression plate or abite piece with a vacuum formed stent.

Alternatively, you can use an impression plate for patientpositioning. Refer to section 15.3 “Patient positioning withimpression plate” on page 90 for details.

Select the program you wish to use (see section 8.6“Selecting tomography / transtomography program” onpage 39.)

Specify the image area as described in section 8.6.1“Selecting target area in tomography / transtomographyprograms” on page 40.

Select the exposure values according to the size of thepatient. Refer to the values given in the following tables.

The X-ray unit moves slowly at first, then faster.

Ask the patient to grasp the patient handles, place theirchin on the chin rest and bite the bite piece. The incisaledges of the maxillary and mandibular teeth must be inthe groove in the bite piece.

Press the temple support button if you wish to close thetemple supports.

While gently supporting the back of the patient’s headwith your hand press either of the height adjusting buttonsto move the unit up or down so that the patient’s head canbe tilted to the angle required for the exposure you wish totake.

15.2 Adjusting position of target area

The position of the target area must be checked when thepatient is positioned in the X-ray unit.

If the tomographic positioning lights are not switched on,touch the thumb wheel on the underside of the patientsupport table or press any of the positioning controls(button or joystick) to switch the lights on.

The light beams cross at the target position. The positionof the target area can be adjusted both crosswise andlengthwise, and the angle of the C-arm can be changed.

NOTE If necessary, the midsagittal and Frankfort plane lightscan be activated as described in section “Behaviouralpreferences (i230)” on page 45.

To adjust the position of the target area, move thepositioning joystick crosswise (x coordinate) or lengthwise(y coordinate) until the cross formed by the light beams isat the correct position for the exposure you wish to take.The coordinates of the selected position are shown on themain display.

Note that, if necessary, you can rotate the C-arm 90degrees clockwise by touching the 90° field on the controlpanel. This might give you a better view to the patient.Touching the 90° field again will rotate the C-arm back tothe original position.

To adjust the angle of the C-arm, press either of the C-arm rotation buttons. Pressing the button on the left willrotate the C-arm clockwise, and pressing the button onthe right will rotate the C-arm counterclockwise.

15.3 Patient positioning with impression plate

Spread bite registration paste to the upper or lower side ofthe impression plate.

Ask the patient to bite the plate so that the anterior teethcoincide with the cross on the plate. The track of thedental arch is formed in the registration paste.

Mark the target area on the registration paste.

Place the impression plate in position. The tomographiclights form a cross which indicates the imaging position.Adjust the lights so that they hit the marking on theregistration paste as described in section 15.2 “Adjustingposition of target area” on page 88. Light A must beparallel to tangent of the jaw curve and light B must beperpendicular to the jaw.

15.4 Taking an exposure

NOTE Make sure that you have selected the right patient andthe panoramic exposure mode in the PlanmecaRomexis program before you take an exposure. Referto the Romexis User’s Manual.

When you are ready to take an exposure touch the Readyfield on the main display. The X-ray unit will move to theready position.

On the exposure button and on the control panel a greenindicator light will come on. Additionally, the word READYwill be shown on the control panel display. The Romexisprogram will show the Waiting for Ready message on thecomputer screen.

The green indicator lights and the word READY will flashwhile the unit moves to the ready position. They will stopflashing when the unit has reached the ready position.The Romexis program will now show the Waiting forExposure message on the computer screen.

15.4.1 Manual exposure

In manual programs you can decide how many exposuresyou wish to have in one image. The minimum is one andthe maximum is four.Between each exposure you can manually:- change the image area- change the exposure values (mA and kV)- change the angle of the C-arm- change the position of the patient.For example, stereopair images can be taken by changingthe C-arm angle.

Ask the patient to close their lips on the bite piece,swallow, and remain as still as possible. Tell the patienthow many exposures you will take so that they do notmove before the end of the exposure cycle.

Move to a protected area.

Press and hold down the exposure button for the durationof the exposure. The C-arm will move once around thepatient’s head. The radiation warning lights on theexposure switch and on the control panel will come onand you will hear a radiation warning tone. The C-arm willthen stop and wait for you to take the next exposure.

Before taking another exposure make any adjustmentnecessary to the exposure settings or adjust the positionof the patient’s head or the C-arm. Take the nextexposure in the same way as described above.

NOTE Maintain audio and visual contact with the patient andunit during exposure. If the C-arm stops movingduring exposure, or moves in an erratic way, releasethe exposure button immediately.

If you take less than four exposures you will have to stopthe exposure procedure by touching the Finish field at thebottom of the display.

The temple supports will automatically open. You can nowguide the patient from the unit.

When you have taken the exposure(s) the image will beshown on the computer screen. Note that you mustaccept the image in the Planmeca Romexis program -only accepted images will be stored in the database.Refer to the Romexis User’s Manual.

In automatic programs you will get three (or four)exposures in one image depending on the program youuse.

Ask the patient to close their lips on the bite piece,swallow, and remain as still as possible. Tell the patientthat the C-arm will rotate backwards and forwards three(or four) times so that they do not move before the end ofthe exposures.

18 DISPOSALIn order to reduce the environmental load over theproduct’s entire lifecycle, Planmeca’s products aredesigned to be as safe as possible to manufacture, useand dispose of.

Parts which can be recycled should always be taken tothe appropriate processing centers, after hazardouswaste has been removed. Disposal of obsolete units isthe responsibility of the waste possessor.

All parts and components containing hazardous materials,as well as batteries, must be disposed of in accordancewith waste legislation and instructions issued by theenvironmental authorities. Batteries must be disposed ofin compliance with the requirements of Directive 2006 / 66/ EEC.

19 HELP MESSAGESThe X-ray unit incorporates a self-checking feature thatmonitors the operation of the unit. If the system detects anoperating error a help message (e.g. H101) will appear onthe control panel.

The X-ray unit will not accept any commands from theuser until the help message is cleared from the display.Clear the message by touching OK.

The following list shows, in numerical order, all the helpmessages that can appear on the control panel.
