The COVID-19 pandemiccontinues to impact SouthwestUtah since the first positive casewas reported in the five-countydistrict on March 6th, 2020. Anaverage of 11 positive COVID-19test results have been reported perday to the Southwest Utah PublicHealth Department (SWUPHD)over the past two weeks, mostlyin Washington County. While IronCounty also has active cases be-ing investigated, Beaver, Garfield,and Kane counties currently haveno known active cases of COVID-19.

“In Utah, we have a 99%recovery rate for those infectedwith COVID-19”, states Dr.David Blodgett, SWUPHDHealth Officer. “However,people over age 60 or those withunderlying health problems aremore likely to have complica-tions or be hospitalized. That’swhy it’s so important for themto have limited contact with oth-ers and for the rest of us to keepthings running while protectingthem.”

Whorehouse Sues LocalChurch Over Lightning Strike!Diamond D’s Brothel began con-struction on an expansion of theirbuilding to increase their ever-growing business. In response, thelocal Baptist Church started a cam-paign to block the business fromexpanding with morning, afternoonand evening prayer sessions at itschurch. Work on Diamond D’sprogressed right up until the weekbefore the grand reopening whenlightning struck the whorehouseand burned it to the ground! Afterthe cathouse was burned to theground by the lightning strike, thechurch folks were rather smug intheir outlook, bragging about ‘Thepower of prayer’. But late lastweek ‘Big Jugs’ Jill Diamond, theowner/Madame, sued the church,the preacher and the entire con-gregation on the grounds that thechurch “was ultimately responsiblefor the demise of her building andher business either through director indirect divine actions ormeans.”

In its reply to the court, thechurch vehemently and vora-ciously denied any and all respon-sibility or any connection to thebuilding’s demise. The crusty oldjudge read through the plaintiff’scomplaint and the defendant’s re-ply, and at the opening hearing hecommented, “I don’t know howthe hell I’m going to decide thisdamn case, but it appears fromthe paperwork that we now havea whorehouse owner whostaunchly believes in the power ofprayer, and an entire church con-gregation that thinks it’s all********!”(Mount VernonTimes)

1 package devil’s foodcake mix

1 2/3 cup water3 eggs1/3 cup canola oil2 cups cold milk1 3.9 ounce package in-

late chipsIn a large bowl, combine

the cake mix, water, eggs andoil; beat on low speed for 30seconds. Then beat on mediumfor 2 minutes. Transfer to agreased 4-quart slow cooker. Inanother bowl, whisk milk andpudding mix for 2 minutes. Letstand for 2 minutes or until soft-set. and creating music as well aslearning to sing solo and ingroups will build responsibilityand commitment. Creativedance and various art projectsare gateways to self-acceptance,appreciation and respect for theuniqueness they see in them-selves and others.

The Academy’s primaryobjective gives young peoplethe skills to not only cope withthe world they live in, but toteach them to overcome theirfears, take responsible risks, andbe leaders in their community.

We live in a time whensome of our elected and ap-pointed leaders are openly hos-tile to the U.S. Constitution. Tounderstand why and the dam-age that is being done by theirattacks, we have to understandwhy it was created and what ithas accomplished.

Many nations have a “con-stitution.” It is simply a docu-ment outlining the foundationaland operational patterns or“forms” that dictate how thegovernment is organized, howits leaders are chosen and whatthe duties of the governmentofficials are. The US Constitu-tion was different than any thatcame before it. Even thoughmany nations have sinceadopted constitutions that arepatterned after ours, the USConstitution is unique in a num-ber of ways.

The biggest difference isthat it was created by those whounderstood the principles laiddown in the Declaration of In-dependence years earlier. Theseprinciples included the idea ofunalienable rights (or rights thatautomatically belong to allpeople as children of God), per-sonal rights connected to per-sonal responsibility and govern-ment being under the control ofthe people rather than the otherway around. It provides checksand balances that keep any in-dividual or group from takingcontrol and abusing the peopleor the processes.

Why theConstitution?

Almost as important andflowing out of that understand-ing was the fact that the repre-sentatives of the various stateswould not ratify the constitu-tion until they received a com-mitment that the Bill of Rights(the first 10 amendments to theConstitution) would also beratified as a condition for mov-ing forward. This action tiedthe formation of the govern-ment to a strict agreement thatthe rights of the individualwould be protected from gov-ernment abuse, over-reach andusurpation.

We will address the Billof Rights and other amend-ments in another article, but itis important to note that thefirst 10 amendments specifi-cally limited what governmentcan do in relationship to thecitizens of the nation. Thoselimitations have provided theopportunity for our peoples torise and create better lives fortheir families and their poster-ity. Few if any places in his-tory have made it so possiblefor anyone to create a new andbetter life, new careers, inven-tions and prosperity for them-selves and for their families,employees and communities.

The result is a nation withmore individual and collectivewealth and opportunity thanany other time and place in his-tory. Does it mean that we donot have poverty or injustice?It does not. We can do better.However, the opportunity isthere for those who wish to in-novate, work hard and take ad-vantage of financial opportu-nities to create and progressthat are not often found in

other nations and political sys-tems. In most countries, theonly people with opportunitieslike that were members of theruling class or those selectedfor advancement by their rul-ers. What many who are en-emies of the Constitution donot understand is that thewealth and well-being of anynation is only created whenthe people of that nation cre-ate value through their workand innovation. The problemwith any unnecessary govern-mental control of the peopleis that it destroys innovation,personal initiative and pro-ductivity. That is why social-ism and communism eventu-ally fail such as what we haveseen recently in Venezuelaand ongoing as in North Ko-rea.

The protections of theindividual and their rightsprovided by our foundingdocuments are the reasonthat we have progressed as anation and have been able torespond to and defeat evilsthat o therwise may havedominated the world such asNazism, Communism, etc.We have much left to do, butthe way is clear for us to ac-complish much good if we re-member and pro tec t therights, liberty and freedom ofindividuals as the U.S. Con-stitution provides.
