GE’s Solar Inverter is the fundamental power block within a system and can be grouped to support the size and scope of your solar electric power plant. To ensure ease of permitting, installation, and inspection, the GE inverter is certified to applicable UL and CSA standards.

The GE inverter utilizes a two-stage power conversion approach, which provides a standard 480vac output voltage, eliminating the need for an intermediate transformer, resulting in higher conversion efficiency compared to a single-stage power conversion system. If multiple inverters are connected to a medium voltage grid, a standard medium voltage transformer can be used.

Fitted with a robust outdoor-rated enclosure, the Brilliance Solar Inverter has been designed to perform even in extreme environmental conditions.

Note: Efficiency measured using the CEC Weighted Average, and does not include losses of the Medium Voltage Transformer. * 1000kw efficiency is preliminary. Cerification is in process.

Inverter Grid FeaturesGE’s innovative SunRIDE-THRU technology allows inverters to stay on-line during grid disturbances. SunRIDE-THRU includes Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT), Zero Voltage Ride Through (ZVRT), and High Voltage Ride Through (HVRT) capabilities. This broad range of capability provides uninterrupted service in the face of grid disturbances, which are prevalent in utility grids around the world.

GE’s SunFREE Reactive Power feature provides controlled reactive power through all operating conditions. Even when not generating active power, inverters with SunFREE can provide reactive power for continuous voltage support and regulation. This feature can eliminate the need for grid reinforcements—even in no-sun conditions—and may allow for more economic commitment of other generating resources.

Data VisualizationA convenient web-based Human Machine Interface (HMI) is provided for local or remote operation of each inverter. This enables password-protected access to inverter operation functions including startup, shutdown, mode selection and set-point adjustments, as well as alarm and maintenance. The HMI also provide data collection and display capability including:

Plant Monitoring GE’s Solar SCADA application is included in the SunIQ system and provides a broad set of intuitive tools for a secure, real-time view of a solar plant’s operation and maintenance. The web-based SCADA application allows for evaluation of plant performance using real-time and historical data to diagnose performance variation sooner and allow for rapid fault resolution. In addition, the application provides a range of supervisory control functions for the inverter allowing operators to remotely command plant setpoints.

Plant Control The SunIQ system includes a plant level controller that coordinates behavior of multiple inverters, thus enhancing the grid integration capabilities of the Solar power plant. Like a conventional power plant, the system controls reactive power supply (KVAR) to the grid, regulating system voltage and stabilizing weak grids. The system is also capable of regulating active power (kW) providing the grid operator with the ability to curtail kW output as well as control frequency droop and ramp rate. The system can be accessed either locally or remotely via the plant monitoring system or alternatively through analog/digital I/O.

GE’s system provides the following capabilities similar to those of a conventional power plant:

• Voltage/PF control: Regulates VARs, reduces voltage variations at point of interconnect (POI)

• Power curtailment: Regulates active power at the POI

• Over frequency droop: Reduces active power in response to frequency increase

• Ramp rate control: Controls MW/sec of generation change

• Start-up/shut-down: Avoids addition or removal of large blocks of power into/out of the grid at once

The Solar Plant has a standardized rectangular layout and includes solar modules, GE Brilliance Solar inverters, ground mount fixed angle racks, DC collection wiring and equipment, weather data collection sensors, assembly and reference installation documentation.

GE’s Solar Plant has been integrated to produce maximize overall power output, and can be easily grouped to support the size and scope of your project. The Solar Plant offers design flexibility, and is designed to fit a variety of solar module technologies.
