THE WISCONSIN MBA ISN’T “ONE SIZE FITS ALL.” OUR FINANCE-RELATED MBA PROGRAMS GIVE YOU UNMATCHED EXPERTISE IN APPLIED SECURITY ANALYSIS, CORPORATE FINANCE & INVESTMENT BANKING, REAL ESTATE, OR RISK MANAGEMENT & INSURANCE.

For students who already know where they

are headed, Wisconsin is the place to start.

Combining a uniquely deep experience in

a designated area of study with a strong

foundation of business principles, Wisconsin

MBA students graduate with a portfolio of

skills, experience, and specialized knowledge

that allows them to hit the ground running and

immediately contribute to the success of their

organizations.

A hallmark of the Wisconsin MBA is

the extensive applied learning built into

the curriculum, providing students real

opportunities to solve problems faced by

businesses today. These applied learning

projects are interwoven with rigorous classroom

material, bringing research theory to life.

Students graduate with the ability to be a field-

specific expert while also supporting the overall

business function of the organization. They also

have lifelong access to their specific knowledge

center, which provides a bridge between their

prior academic experience and the real-world

activities sustained in their workplace.

No other MBA program can match the level

of individualized staff support we provide

in each of our 10 career specializations. Our

outstanding alumni network, engaged industry

partners, active student organizations and clubs,

and supportive community of creative and

adventurous leaders put the Wisconsin MBA out

in front.

Within the Wisconsin MBA, you’ll find:

A Wisconsin MBA is grounded in applied

learning, graduating individuals prepared to

add immediate value to the organizations

that employ them. Each newly admitted

student joins a relatively small MBA class of

approximately 130 participants and an even

smaller, intimate cohort of driven, accomplished

individuals who are committed to careers in

their chosen specialization. Students benefit

from a strong core business curriculum while

building an unmatched depth of knowledge and

expertise within their area of specialization. As

part of this small group, students get individual

attention, unique access to faculty and staff,

a loyal network of alumni, and a wealth of

insights from industry executives.

APPLIED SECURITY ANALYSISIf you have a passion for investing and are

focused on pursuing a career in the investment

field, specializing in Applied Security Analysis is

an ideal choice.

A Wisconsin MBA specializing in Applied

Security Analysis offers a broad business

education through your core MBA classes as

well as hands-on security analysis and portfolio

management, using the same tools and systems

used by the largest firms in the country. You

(not the professor) will make investment

decisions for portfolios with a combined

value of more than $50 million. This rigorous

preparation is why our graduates obtain great

jobs after graduation. Our alumni are employed

as research analysts, institutional salespeople,

portfolio managers, or research directors at

investment firms throughout the world.

Our curriculum emphasizes fundamental

investing and business model analysis, along

with portfolio concepts such as absolute risk

and tracking error. We don’t require any specific

investment process—that is for you and your

team to decide after learning about various

approaches used throughout the industry.

You’ll spend your first year learning modeling

and analytical skills needed to evaluate potential

investments, and the following summer doing

an internship with an investment firm. During

the second year, you will further develop your

skills by managing real portfolios and taking

additional finance classes designed to give

you the tools and insight you need, guided

by industry professionals who have years of

experience.

The program is also a CFA® Program Partner,

which gives you extra resources and ensures

that the majority of the same material as the CFA

Exams Program is covered by our curriculum.

CORPORATE FINANCE & INVESTMENT BANKINGDo you see the big picture when it comes to

finance? Corporate finance requires a deep

understanding of financial methods and

techniques—from valuing assets to providing

insights on important business development

decisions. Investment banking focuses on

raising capital for companies and making

business deals happen.

The Wisconsin MBA in Corporate Finance and

Investment Banking prepares you to see that

big picture and to succeed as a financial officer,

consultant, or investment banker.

Critical analysis of corporate financial

problems is at the heart of the program. You

tackle challenging consulting projects for

Fortune 500 firms, investment banks, and

other financial leaders. You learn to address

complex challenges involving working capital

management, funding sources, acquisition

analysis, and more.

You work as part of a team throughout the

academic year, conducting approximately four

to six diverse financial consulting engagements

and presenting your recommendations to

executives of the sponsoring firm. You learn

how to apply technical and theoretical financial

tools and concepts to analyze problems,

improve decision making, and develop

recommendations for action.

RISK MANAGEMENT & INSURANCEIn today’s world, managing risk is a necessity,

not an option. Companies must confront a

variety of major risks—legal liabilities, natural

disasters, and credit meltdowns—to name only

a few. To manage these challenges, companies

rely on professionals in risk management

and insurance, individuals who are skilled at

evaluating risks and developing strategic

measures to manage them effectively.

The Wisconsin MBA in Risk Management and

Insurance is known for producing graduates

capable of analyzing risk from multiple

perspectives with advanced analytical,

communication, and critical-thinking skills.

The curriculum integrates finance, accounting,

data analysis, and management. Innovations

in enterprise risk management, risk financing

techniques, and sustainability implications are

explored.

As a student in the program, you gain hands-

on experience through projects conducted on

behalf of companies with risk management

needs. The most notable example of this

applied learning is the risk management

seminar, in which teams of students undertake

significant consulting projects for companies

and other organizations.

Graduates of the program are highly sought

after by employers. They go on to assume

challenging positions in brokerage, consulting,

corporate risk management, and insurance

company management.

Wisconsin’s Risk Management and Insurance

program was founded in 1938, making it

the second-oldest program in the country. It

is consistently ranked among the top three

programs in the nation, with alumni who cannot
