student joins a relatively small MBA class of
approximately 130 participants and an even
smaller, intimate cohort of driven, accomplished
individuals who are committed to careers in
their chosen specialization. Students benefit
from a strong core business curriculum while
building an unmatched depth of knowledge and
expertise within their area of specialization. As
part of this small group, students get individual

focused on pursuing a career in the investment
field, specializing in Applied Security Analysis is
an ideal choice.
A Wisconsin MBA specializing in Applied
Security Analysis offers a broad business
education through your core MBA classes as
well as hands-on security analysis and portfolio
management, using the same tools and systems
used by the largest firms in the country. You

Our curriculum emphasizes fundamental
investing and business model analysis, along
with portfolio concepts such as absolute risk
and tracking error. We don’t require any specific
investment process—that is for you and your
team to decide after learning about various
approaches used throughout the industry.
You’ll spend your first year learning modeling
and analytical skills needed to evaluate potential
investments, and the following summer doing
an internship with an investment firm. During
the second year, you will further develop your
skills by managing real portfolios and taking
additional finance classes designed to give
you the tools and insight you need, guided
by industry professionals who have years of
experience.

RISK MANAGEMENT & INSURANCEIn today’s world, managing risk is a necessity,
not an option. Companies must confront a
variety of major risks—legal liabilities, natural
disasters, and credit meltdowns—to name only
a few. To manage these challenges, companies
rely on professionals in risk management
and insurance, individuals who are skilled at
evaluating risks and developing strategic
measures to manage them effectively.
The Wisconsin MBA in Risk Management and
Insurance is known for producing graduates
capable of analyzing risk from multiple
perspectives with advanced analytical,
communication, and critical-thinking skills.
The curriculum integrates finance, accounting,
data analysis, and management. Innovations
in enterprise risk management, risk financing
techniques, and sustainability implications are
explored.
As a student in the program, you gain hands-
on experience through projects conducted on
behalf of companies with risk management
needs. The most notable example of this
applied learning is the risk management
seminar, in which teams of students undertake
significant consulting projects for companies
and other organizations.
Graduates of the program are highly sought
after by employers. They go on to assume
challenging positions in brokerage, consulting,
corporate risk management, and insurance
company management.
Wisconsin’s Risk Management and Insurance
