Part 3: Marking

No. Process Screenshots

1. Go into Grading tab If you cannot access this page and the exam has completed, please contact Academic Services to ensure you have been added as a Course Admin or Assessment Admin against the exam. It is highly recommended you do your marking in ExamSoft. Whilst it is possible to export a student’s exam results to be marked outside of ExamSoft, any student’s answers over 30,000 characters will be cut off. Please see this illustrated in the screenshot to the right.

2. Select Anonymous Grading to avoid any potential for grading bias. It is recommended that Anonymous Grading should be ticked wherever possible. Anonymous Grading is where the Marker can only see the student’s number not the student’s name.

3. Ensure ‘Questions’ View is selected. Questions View allows you to mark one question across all students, whereas for ‘Students’ View you will need to mark all the questions for that one student.

4. To begin marking, click pencil icon next to the question you have been assigned to mark. Review the student’s answer and enter their assigned mark. In the example (screenshot to the right) the student was awarded 1 out of a possible 10 marks for the question.

5. You can choose to add any notes in the Notes Field. This field can be used to:

justify why the mark was given.

paste information from a Rubric.

Tips:

Anything written in this field may later be viewed by a student when they review their results.

Notes to Colleagues should not be included here.

Feedback is specific to each student, therefore general feedback to all students will need to be done in a different way. For example, via email or through the LMS.

If you cannot see the student’s full response you can scroll down by using the scroll bar on the right of the browser.

6. Once you have marked and filled in applicable notes, click Save and Continue.

7. Continue marking all student answers for the question, and all questions on the exam.

8. Review the progress of your marking to ensure all answers for all students are marked. An example screenshot to the right shows 1 question has been marked, therefore as 5 students answered the question, 4 more answers need to be marked.

9. Once all grading is complete. Move to Part 4.

Part 4: Reporting/Adjust Scoring Please note that the Adjust Scoring component in this Guide is only to be used for problems with question design NOT for scaling/weighting marks.

No. Process Screenshots

1. Select Reporting/Adjust Scoring which will default to the Basic Class Report.

2. View in ‘Class’ View as this is where adjustments can be made and where you can see each of the questions. NEVER CLICK RELEASE RESULTS Sorting questions by ‘Correct’ is recommended as those questions with the lowest scores are the ones most likely to require an adjustment. The example to the right shows that no student answered this question

correctly; therefore there may be an issue with the question design.

3. Click pencil icon next to each question to see the different performance statistics.

4. If you decide that an answer may require an adjustment, your options, as shown in the screenshot to the right are: a) Give Full

Credit to All Exam Takers;

b) Throw Out Question; and

c) Assign as Bonus Question.

If you choose one of these options, please check ‘Adjust Answer’ and click the green Save button.

5. For extra information, you can choose Student View to see the Individual Strengths and Opportunities Report.

6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 above for all other questions that you deem necessary.

7. Once adjustment is complete, Click on Students View where you will see your Final Results. This can also be exported as a csv file. Please follow Step 1 in Part 3: Marking.

8. Please note, for Unit Co-ordinators, it is compulsory to run the report for Notes from Students. This will help when deciding if an adjustment is needed. Click on View Feedback

Student feedback can be printed.

9. Unit Co-ordinators please note that if a student would like to review their test, ExamSoft suggests you print it out rather than showing them on the screen. This can be done through the Individual Strengths and Opportunities Report in Step 5 of Part 4: Reporting/ Adjust Scoring.
