MEAMENT?

Page 3: Validity of Measurement

VALIDITY OFMEASUREMENT

- refers to the extent to which the measuring instrument measures what it is supposed to measure.

Page 4: Validity of Measurement

VALIDITY OFMEASUREMENT

“Does the measuring instrument measure the characteristics, traits, or whatever, for which it is supposed to measure?”

Page 5: Validity of Measurement

APPROACHES USED TO DETERMINE THE VALIDITY

OF MEASUREMENT

1. Logical Analysis2. Empirical Analysis

Page 6: Validity of Measurement

LOGICAL ANALYSIS

- focuses on the content of the test or measuring instrument.

Page 7: Validity of Measurement

EXAMPLE:Measuring the Students’

Learning InterestINDICATORS

Coming to school on timeDoing his assignment everydayAchieving high scores in the testsActive class participation

Page 8: Validity of Measurement

EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS

- uses criterion measurement.

“criteria-based”

Page 9: Validity of Measurement

EXAMPLE:Measuring the Students’ Academic Performance

CRITERIAAchievement test resultsSubmission of projects/assignments

Page 10: Validity of Measurement

A test is not valid if not properly used for a particular purpose and for a particular group.

1. Content Validity2. Construct Validity3. Concurrent Validity4. Predictive Validity

TYPES:

Page 13: Validity of Measurement

- the degree to which a test measures an intended content area.

- Includes FACE and SAMPLING VALIDITY.

CONTENT VALIDITY

Page 14: Validity of Measurement

-concerned with whether the test measures the intended content area.

-Determined by a review of the items.

FACE VALIDITY

Page 15: Validity of Measurement

- concerned with how well the test samples the total content area.

- Not everything can be covered, so items need to be sampled from all of the domains.

SAMPLING VALIDITY

Page 16: Validity of Measurement

- the degree to which a test measures an intended hypothetical construct.

CONSTRUCT VALIDITY

Page 17: Validity of Measurement

CONCURRENT VALIDITY

- the degree to which the scores on another already established test administered at the same time or to some other valid criterion available at the same time.

Page 18: Validity of Measurement
Page 19: Validity of Measurement

CONCURRENT VALIDITY

1. Relationship Method2. Discrimination Method

Page 20: Validity of Measurement

RELATIONSHIP METHOD

- determines the relationship on the test and scores on other established test.

Page 21: Validity of Measurement

DISCRIMINATION METHOD

- determines whether test scores can be used to discriminate between persons who posses a certain characteristic and those who do not, or those who posses it to a greater degree.

Page 22: Validity of Measurement

PREDICTIVE VALIDITY

- the degree to which a test can predict how well and individual will do in a future situation.
