FROM THE EAST
We started September with the Labor Day Weekend which I hope gave
us time to recuperate from the previous months activities. We honored
Brother Mike “Flying Squirrel” Nesmith with the Golden Veteran Award
Ceremony which was enjoyed by the well-wishers. Due to some
verification set back, our Golden Veteran Award was presented to
Brother Mike on September 7, 2019 (5 years late) which gave him a total
of 55 years, 5 months and 5 days in Masonry... a life time dedication to
our Craft. We had great food (specially cooked by non-other than PM
Barry Hughes and his kitchen crew) a good crowd, and very memorable
ceremony narrated by PM John Wasson and let’s not forget our Marshal
Bro Delfin Dominguez who escorted the Golden Veteran with such a
dignified red carpet walk. Bro Mario Cruz made and donated the Golden
Veteran Banner to Bro Mike. I’d like to take this opportunity for a loud
shout out to Brother Eric Throne for playing the Piano during our degrees
and major events. Your music has always been a welcome addition and
major part of our lodge. Again, thank you. To top off the evening, as is
required at any Masonic Special Event, cake was served, the cake was
good but the spirited beverages were even better.
Bro JJ and Bro Dennis along with the Naval Lodge donated food to the
homeless shelter. They made arraignment and they both delivered the
pre-ordered food to the needy. Thank you Brothers.
The next event was the raising of our Brother Alex Gaoiran who waited
more than a year to be raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason.
You have been an integral part of our Fraternity since the time you
walked in and have always been a very dependable member of the
Lodge. Congratulations on being raised as you continue your quest for
excellence. Enjoy your journey.
Brother Mike Nesmith, Brother Joaquin, and his wife Jocelyn along with
Joaquin Jr. and I visited the Masonic Homes in Union City and met with
Brother Bill and Suzie. It was a great visit and we enjoyed our stay
absorbing the atmosphere and the resident’s accommodations.
Residents in the homes are treated like dignitaries. It was a fun event
sharing a beautiful day listening to music, enjoying food and bonding with
the residents and representatives of the homes. I am happy to report that
our Brothers and Sisters in the home are well taken care off.
As most of you already heard, Brother Angel Dumaop’s mother-
in-law passed away in the Philippines. Brother Angel’s family flew
to the Philippines on Sept 25 which resulted in the postponement
of his 3rd Degree conferral until October 24th. The Calendar has
been posted with numerous changes and I scheduled 2nd Degree
Rehearsals the first few weeks of October.
Our upcoming big event is the Past Masters Night scheduled for
October 12. I would like to see as many Past Masters as we can
get a hold of to make this a memorable and joyous event. I
expect the younger members of our Lodge to show their respect
and appreciation by serving our Past Masters. Brother Seth
Thomas and entourage will prepare the meal for us.
I’ve visited Bro Charlie Balhache and he’s mental faculty is still
top notch although his health has been on the down turned. He
said that he is going to a convalescent facility in Vallejo. As soon
as he settles in the facility, I will keep you inform. He also donated
a very beautiful portable bar that we will definitely use..
I highly encourage my brethren to contact your friends to come
back to the Lodge and be an active member again. If we make an
effort to call a brother or two to come to our stated meeting or
special events, this might give them a different perspective, that
we are moving forward and continuing to have a very strong
Lodge.
Annual Communication is coming up on October 18 through the
20th. Let me know if you are going so that we can arrange a car
pool. I’d like to see as many of you as possible at the Grand
Lodge. On Sunday the 20th our inspector and coach of Naval
Lodge 87 WB John Wasson will be installed as the Grand Sword
Bearer. See you at the Annual Communication.
Again, many thanks for your continuous support.
Upon the Square,

Hello Brethren, the year is almost over and I would like to invite all the Brethren and their Family to come and join us on October 3, 2019 at 6:00 PM for our Monthly Stated Dinner. We look forward in Meeting our new Brothers. We will be serving Ham, Scallops and Green Beans. Brother Alex Gaoiran and I will be cooking our Dinner with the help of our kitchen crew. I would like to thank Bro Albert, Bro Florian, Bro Roy, Bro Kane, Bro Caesar, Bro Crivello, Bro Borghesani and all the Brothers who help us in the kitchen. Thank you.
