PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE “Work hard, do your best, live the truth, trust yourself, have some fun…. And you’ll have no regrets.” Byrd Baggett Congratulations to our Concert Band and Training Band! Congratulations to both our Concert and Training Bands who performed at the Central Coast Band Festival last Sunday. Our training band received a bronze award whilst our concert band received a gold award. Thank you to the students and parents who attended on the weekend. I would also like to thanks Mrs Peta O’Neil our band co-ordinator for her hard work. Way to go Valley View!! View Start – Kindergarten 2019 Our View Start Kindergarten Orientation program commenced last week. It was wonderful to see our 2019 Kindergarten students attend school in their first week of our five-week transition to “big school” program. The children settled in well in no time and enjoyed meeting the teachers and experiencing, for many, their first taste of our great school. We welcome our new View Start students and their families to the Valley View School community. 2019 School Planning We are in the process of planning classes and staffing for 2019 and it would help greatly if you can let us know your intentions. Are you moving away? Do you know someone who wants to enrol their child and hasn’t let us know? With our need to establish a clear picture of student numbers for next year, we would appreciate knowing if your child/children will not be returning to Valley View Public School in 2019. This information is important for our class organisation and staffing for next year. I am asking that you let us know in writing if your child is not returning to Valley View Public School in 2019. Please send this information to the office. Attendance at School If your child misses an average of nine days per term (that’s less than one day a week) during their primary school years, they would have missed a whole year of learning by the time they reach Year 7. If they miss 10 minutes a day that equals 8 hours 33 minutes a term or nearly 8 days of learning in a year. It is cool to be in school on time. School Leaders 2019 Today our Year 5 students presented their Leaders speeches to the staff and students. Thank you to Mrs Suaning and Mrs Byrne for assisting the students in preparing for their speeches. Valley Schools Leaders’ Forum Our school Leadership Team are currently preparing their presentation for the Valley Schools Leaders Forum on Wednesday, 7th November. I know they will present with confidence and skill and will represent our school with pride. Many thanks to Mrs Suaning and our Stage 3 Leaders for your hard work throughout the year.

Yours in Education

Mary Hunt Principal

ATTENTION YEAR 6 PARENTS We are looking for Year 6 parents who are interested in joining the Year 6 Farewell Committee. Mrs Byrne from 5/6O would love to hear from you. At the moment we only have a small group and are looking for additional people to assist with organisation/decorations/setup etc. Our Year 6 Farewell will be held on Monday 17th December 2018 at Gosford Golf Club.

THIS WEEK IN PBL It is important to have rules for our toilets. We need to be respectful of others privacy and ensure everyone is

using them safely and responsibly. Remember to Flush, Wash and Go.

TRY THIS!

What are the toilets for?

Where are the toilets around the school?

When should you use the toilet?

Sorting Activity: sort scenarios into toilet – not toilet.

Scenarios are based on if students would need to go into the

toilet for an activity (i.e. washing hands, getting a drink

Discussion – What is privacy?.

GIVE IT A GO!

Practise conserve water and toilet paper

Flush, wash and go

P&C NEWS CHRISTMAS DISCO The P&C are having a disco on Wednesday 14th November – the theme is Christmas and we encourage children to wear their favourite Christmas themed clothes. There will also be a BBQ with sausage sandwiches and drinks for sale. A flyer and order form for tickets (tickets available for pre-sale or available on the night) was sent home last week. DONATIONS NEEDED This term the P&C has our major event for the year – the Community Carols. On the day we will be holding a raffle and have various activities running. We are asking if people could kindly start collecting suitable Christmas items (e.g. bonbons, packaged biscuits, chocolates, nuts etc and baskets) to make up hampers. A flyer with more information will be coming home soon. We appreciate the generosity of the school community and need your support to make this event a success!! UNIFORM SHOP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are looking for parent volunteers to help in the Uniform shop once a week on a Friday morning.
