Welcome Spring Spring such a wonderful time of the year!

Organisation of articles for the Vallmont Times

Come with us to the past... About 2 months before this.

Our English teacher, Maria Cantó, told the class to do an article in groups for the Vallmont Times.

Then we made groups, chose a topic and we started working.

Maria helped us with our doubts and questions, and people who finished early helped other groups.

On the last day, our group finished the article, well, this article and we sent it to Maria to put in the magazine.

THE BEGINNING OF A BILINGUAL & TECHNOLOGICAL ERA...!!!! We are students of 1ST of ESO and we would like to explain to you how we learn English in class.

English is very important nowadays because you can find more jobs, it is also useful for traveling because it is an international language and your future will be better if you speak English. Another interesting thing we do in class is prepare for the Cambridge exams which help us to improve our English level and we also get a certificate which makes us feel very proud of ourselves. Even though it is not easy learning in English we are happy to say that we have learnt a lot and we have reached our goal: being bilingual.

The Ipads are the best way to learn English because you have lots of apps that can be useful to practice with exercises and activities. You can also access to the internet and search information in different web pages. Our school provides us with these Ipads which help us to work faster and in an easier way. For example, this year we have done a fantastic TV show called, “Vallmont Show”, where we learnt how to work in groups and we enjoyed it a lot. We have also done different projects and presentations with the Ipads and thanks to that we have learnt English in a funnier way.

But we do not forget something that is really important as well: writing! Studying in a technological project does not mean saying bye bye to traditional methods like using paper and pencil. As everything in life it also has some disadvantages. One of them is that some of us can get a bit distracted and we need both battery and internet access to use it properly. All in all, english is very important in our lives and we are happy to be in Vallmont Bilingual School!!!

KAHOOT

Kahoot is used for doing quizzes and it's a lot of fun. We use kahoot in different subjects, specially in Mathematics.

In mathematics we have a normal class but the last 15 minutes we play. First, we take the Ipad and we enter the game. Later, we have to put the code that the teacher has and gives to us, and the last thing is to write our name.

We use it to have fun and to see what we know. When you have to answer a question you're very nervous to see if you have it right to be in first position.

The teachers prepare the questions and sometimes they are a little difficult so we can't do it mentally and we have to do it on a sheet of paper . Finally we start to play! By: Inés Portones and Claudia Barquilla 1st A

Video Project Today we are going to talk about the english video that we prepared in our english class. It was about the weather and we did it with iMovie. It was recorded in Natura residential area, (Villanueva del Pardillo). It was a story about 3 girls: Alejandra, Candela and Mónica.

It is about a family that lives in a place where there are a lot of tornados and hard winds. It was so horrible that the TV reporters went to interview a family in the town and then, the TV broadcasted the interview on the news. One day the three girls went riding on their scooters and they fell to the ground because suddenly there was an earthquake. We had a lot of fun making this video.

Class Projects 1st ESO

We have worked on a class project that has amused us much. We had to create a board game. We made groups of 5 or 6 people, and each group had to create a game. Each groups game was different, but all of us had to ask questions related to vocabulary and English grammar. In speaking class, we discussed our games and other teammates played them. We used cards, dice, chips and some groups gave a prize to the winners. It was fun!

2nd ESO

My dream house!

A few weeks ago in english class, we worked on a project called “OUR DREAM HOUSE”. It consisted on designing our perfect house drawing a picture or using an app. We had to design and prepare the presentation.

One of the apps is called Planner 5D. It allows us to build a house from the beginning, with the materials we want and decorate it as we prefer. The house can have more than one floor and an outside part.

After the process of designing the house was completed, we had to present our house in front of the class and the teacher gave us a mark.

Orquestarium

On January 21st, the students of second of eso went by bus to the National Auditorium to watch "Orquestarium". The national orchestra played music by famous composers such as Strauss, and Mozart.

There was a large sign at the bottom with the letters Orquestarion and some musicians and two actors who were on stage where the ones who announced the next song. The director of the orchestra was a girl. It was a fun show and we had a great and fantastic time!!!

3rd ESO

When we finished unit 7 of the book, which was about ancient civilizations, the teacher sent us to work in pairs on a famous monument. We had to prepare a PowerPoint presentation explaining the main features of each of the monuments. Each partner chose a different one: the Taj Majal that hides a beautiful love story, the Chinese wall that can be seen from space, the Eiffel Tower which was built for the Universal Exhibition, the Statue of Liberty which was a gift from the French to the Americans, the Vatican with the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo's paintings, and Big Ben whose original name was the Great Bell.

We have learned interesting things with each of the exhibitions and we like doing these group projects.

Reduced Schedule

From 8 a.m to 2 p.m, the perfect timetable…

Here, in 2nd ESO it has been proposed having that reduced schedule. Our request

has been rejected with the excuse that we are not mature enough. We think that´s a

terrible error and we want to prove that´s not a reason.

- Imagine for a while that it was true that we are not mature enough. In that case,

we would not be mature enough neither in class nor in our homes. What we

mean is that if we are not mature enough to study at home, we are not mature

enough to pay attention in class.

- If we have extracurricular activities we lose all the afternoon and we can not

study. By Xián Castaño and Jaime Poblaciones 2nd eso

EASTER AROUND THE WORLD In the United States, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Malaysia, Australia, Brazil, India and the Philippines, parents hide Easter eggs and sweets (usually outdoors) for their children to find them. Ann Elisabeth Samson, editor of BabyCenter Canada, says that usually "there are searches for Easter eggs in the Community before Easter weeks. It's a fun way to unite the residents of a neighborhood."

In Mexico, which has a strong Catholic tradition, the secular tradition of Easter bunnies and chocolates is not widespread, although it is practiced in some sectors of society. Instead, explains Norma Mora, newspaper Mexico editor, "the country observes Holy Week, which includes Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday or Resurrection Day

Spain, another country with strong Catholic roots, also has many culinary traditions of Easter, including one that could hurt! Lourdes Alcaniz, Spanish reporter that "in Valencia, people make a special bun that has a hard-boiled egg inside, with a painted shell, and break them on peoples heads."

In Germany, lamb is also traditionally the highlight of Easter, but children often do not look favorably as they prefer to see live lambs jumping around the field, explains Cordula Zastera, a boss of an education center in Germany. What I like are the bonfires which are lit across the country, where family and friends gather around to drink, eat, meet and have fun. Often this is the first barbecue bonfire of the year.

"In Brazil on Holy Saturday" is called 'Saturday Alleluia,' and in many small towns there is a reduced version of Carnival, to celebrate the end of Lent, "says Fernanda Ravagnani, editor of BabyCenter Brazil." There is a tradition Judas paste: people make straw dolls representing Judas, hang them in the streets and destroy them representing sometimes politicians involved in scandals rather than Judas. ".

NICE CITIES

TO VISIT

Nowadays, we have multiple ways of traveling like for example, by boat, by plane, by train, etc. But do we all travel as much as we wish? Here you will find a list of some cities that you have to visit at least once in your life.

In the city of New York, the city we all dream about, there are many interesting things to do. Like going to the top of the Empire State Building or to the top of the Statue of Liberty. However, if you need to relax, I recommend you to go for a walk in Central Park. But you have to be careful with thieves, they are very common in the New York streets.

If you want to visit a city full of charm you must take a look at Amsterdam. There, you can walk through the canals, which is an incredible experience you can't miss! But you can also rent a boat and it is even better than walking through the city. Amsterdam is also a very cultural place. You can find, for example, Anne Frank's house. An old house from the Second World War where a Jewish family hid from the Nazis.

In my opinion, both cities are great. I strongly recommend visiting them, as well as other cities such as London, Sidney or Berlin.

FINAL COURSE TRIP Our wish from the beginning of this academic year has been organizing our final course trip.

For the first three months, we thought about the place we wanted to go and, finally, we decided to go to Cádiz.

The trip will start the 20th of June up to the 24th of June. At the start of the trip, we will have to wake up quite early because it is a very long way down to Cádiz. We think we will get there at approximately 16:00 hours. In Cádiz we will do different activities like, aquatic sports, paintball, etc. We will have free time to go to the beach, (we hope!!). We will visit the city of Cádiz on the third day and the two last days we will visit the city of Sevilla, where we will have the chance to go to a theme park called “Isla Mágica”. In Sevilla there are many famous monuments and we would like to visit all of them. Finally, we will leave Sevilla after lunch an we will come back home. We are absolutely excited!! We can’t wait for that day to arrive!!

EXCHANGE This year we have had the opportunity of spending a week with Danish students. As we already said, some of us already had gone to Denmark for a week.

Some people think that these types of exchanges are not useful, but it is a good way to improve our English or any other language. It is also a good way to learn about different cultures, at the same time that we have fun. Another advantage is that we meet new people with different lifestyles.

Nowadays, these types of programs are so useful for our future because in future job interviews we will be asked if we have had an experience abroad.

16

ISSUE-2 APRIL 19, 2016

These exchanges are an “excuse” to travel and visit new places around the world. These experiences will give us the trust of talking fluently in other languages in different situations. In conclusion, having an exchange program is an opportunity that not everyone has, and if you are lucky enough to have it, you must take advantage of it. By Nayra Bertol, Sara Martínez, Daniel Tapia, Laura Rueda, Marina García y Gonzalo Díaz, 1st Bachillerato B.

Our exchange experience

We were all looking forward to going to Denmark, we thought it would give us the opportunity to meet new people and a different culture from ours. On October 24th we flew to Copenhagen and then we went by train to Aarhus. Our host families were waiting for us and then we all went to our assigned houses in Grenaa. Our week was very funny, even though at first they looked a little bit distant, they were all very kind to us. They took us to different places such as Aarhus, the Kalø Castle, Stendysserne Tustrup… and we also hung out together after school. The school was very big and different from ours. For example, one big difference is that there are only three grades. On November 1st, we were all very sad because we had to return home but we were expecting their visit in March.

They arrived to Madrid on Sunday the 6th of March. Both, the students who went to Denmark and the ones who didn’t, but were hosting, were expecting their visit. We went out on our own every day together to places like, Gran Plaza or to Madrid, and with the school we went to Segovia and the Pedriza. Those have been such amazing days. On Thursday, as they were going to leave to their hotel on Friday, we had a dinner at the school and then we went to a party, it was an incredible night. We think it was a very positive experience, not just because we met new people, places, and languages, but also because it enriched us.

OPEN DAY

Do you like parties? Would you like to experience school in a different way? If you like the idea, you can’t miss Open Day, on the 6th of May.

Open Day was created to bring families, students, and the school staff together, so that they can interact in a more relaxing way. On this day, families get to know the school from inside. This event is focused on different activities, there are bouncy

castles, games, etc.

It is also a great opportunity for students to show the projects they have been working on during the cultural week. There is also a bar in which 4th of ESO

students sell drinks to get money for their final course trip.

Three days before Open Day, we celebrate Cultural Week. During these three days we work on a topic and develop some activities related to it.

Everyone is invited to come to the school on Open Day, it does not matter how old you are. All of you are more than invited to come with your family and friends.

We strongly believe that this is a nice event for everyone. If you want to have fun, you just can´t miss it!!
