Farewell 2019! This year has been an eventful year with much accomplishments. Some things that come to mind are: STEAM Certification, PAVE as non-profit organization, start of Transitional Kindergarten, and addition of Theater Arts and Computerwisekids. This just proves what amazing things can happen when we unite to work together. Thank you. During this holiday season, I hope you’ll take time to reflect on your many blessings as you set new year’s resolution for 2020. Happy Holidays! Principal Hong Instructional Update Accelerated Reader (AR) Online Program – For every fiction or non-fiction book students (1 st -5 th grade) read, they should take a reading comprehension test through the Accelerated Reader Online Program. You can either monitor your child’s reading score and reading level online or check with your child’s teacher. Eureka Math Curriculum – In order to better align our curriculum with math common core standards, we are in the process of adopting a more rigorous curriculum to support our instruction. Student Council Update: Food Bank Can Drive – Through the can drive, our students are learning to value and care for those who are less fortunate than us. Thank you to many families that have donated canned and dried goods. Holiday Grams – Student council will be selling holiday-grams during the month of December. Help your child participate in this fun event. Winter Vocal Program: Friday, December 13 th @8:30, 9:30, OR 1:00 This year, there will be three winter vocal programs in order to accommodate all the families including Van Ness Preschool. We ask that parents who do not work to attend either the 9:30 or 1:00 show. Van Ness Preschool parents are asked to attend the 9:30 performance. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Restorative Justice December/January Theme: “RELATIONSHIP” During these two months, engage in conversations on how to build positive relationship with your child. You can use the questions below as a guide. 1. What does friendship mean to you? 2. Who is someone in your life you look up to and why? 3. Tell us about a time when you felt left out and why? 4. How can you be a buddy to those that are different around you? (i.e. How can you be a buddy to someone who cannot see, read, walk?) 5. What do you expect from others at school? 6. What relationships do you want to work on (with teachers, friends, parents, siblings, family)? EMAIL UPDATES Starting January Thank you to many parents who have provided email addresses already. We’re planning to launch our email updates starting January to those parents who have provided their email address. Paper newsletters will be sent out for the rest of this school year and then we’re going paperless beginning 2020-2021 school year. If you need assistance in creating an email address, please contact the school or PAVE for support. Student Attendance Daily Attendance = Funding = Resources Each day a child is absent, we lose $70, and every three truancies (30 min. or more) is equal to an absence. The chart below shows our average monthly attendance, the revenue lost, and the best class attendance. Please make every effort to bring your child to school on time every day. Make travel plans and schedule appointments during the break. There will be a GLOW Dance Party for the students with perfect attendance for the fall semester on December 20 th . Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov.
