BOOT HARNESSES

The Tongue Lock Down 1 (TLD1) system adds an additional level of heel hold by connecting with your external laces and pulling the boot tongue toward your instep while tightening.

Vans’ patented Tongue Lock Down 2 (TLD2) also pulls the tongue toward your instep as you tighten down your internal harness lace for additional heel hold. Power is the operative word with the PowerCuff Strap. It provides extra support at the top of the boot for increased stability and response. Its configuration gives riders customizable levels of engagement and the option of wrapping the strap around the internal liner or the exterior tongue.

Similar to the Skill Guide, when riders are selecting a boot they should self-evaluate the terrain style that they primarily ride. Again, most boots offer ranges from Park/Street to All-Mountain or All-Mountain to Big Mountain/Backcountry, but some are specific to certain terrains. It’s optimal to select a boot that best fits the terrain that you ride most frequently.

Our flex rating provides a point reference for how boots within the Vans line compare in flexibility. A lower number designates a softer-flexing boot; higher numbers designate a more supportive boot. Boots equipped with the Vans Flex Control System, PowerCuff Strap, and Hybrid Plus systems will have larger ranges indicating the scope of flex within which each boot can be adjusted.

The Skill Guide allows riders to self-evaluate while selecting boots. Most boots provide ranges from Beginner to Intermediate or Intermediate to Advanced, although some boots are specific to Beginners or Advanced riders. Selecting a range and boot that best matches your current skill level increases your chances of finding the best possible fit for you.

Selecting the right boot isn’t always easy. There are a lot of choices and if you’re not familiar with all the specific features and benefits of each one, it can be overwhelming. We understand this.
