Polybius VI, 53 Roman Funerary Rights

Polybius developed a loyalty to Rome after being deported from Greece and being employed by a Roman noble as a tutor to his sons.

He declined an opportunity to return to Greece and even travelled with Scipio to Africa in the conflict against Carthage. He became loyal to Rome, however he was adamant about factual integrity in his writing and strove to avoid bias in his work.

1. What ideologies can you identify in Polybius’ writing?

2. Produce a paragraph which identifies and explains the Roman ideologies present in this source.
