Wrong Entity In last week’s Greyhound Weekly, in the write up on the
Spring Gun x Marley Girl litter, I inadvertently got the
two Entity bitches mixed up.
In commenting on the win of Billy’s Bake at
Sandown on November 24, I said that he was out of
Zoenah’s Entity, instead of Evie’s Entity.
He has since finished second over 525 metres at
The Meadows, on November 30, and is drawn in box six
in Race 3 there tomorrow night, so there might be an
omen there if you’ve just read this and are having a bet.
Billy’s Bake was whelped in March 15, by Barcia
Bale and he has now raced eight times for three wins,
one second and three thirds.
He is the only pup named to date from Evie’s first
litter.
Zoenah’s Entity is also a proven dam with winners
from her first litter, by Banjo Boy, which produced,
Banjo King, Banjo Zip, Bellas Queen, Keiwa Drive,
Lady Banjo, Lonnie’s Banjo and Power Burn.

John Cole has been in greyhound racing for over
40 years and says he still loves to read about the
breeding side of the sport.
He also said they get very little press in West
Australia regarding greyhound racing, so he welcomes
the introduction of Greyhound Weekly online, and we
look forward to getting more emails from the West.
Passionate Eyes has one previous litter on file,
two dogs and six bitches, whelped in March 2014 and
bred by Korrin Gear at Yandarran.
Great news from there too, with the first pup to
race from the litter winning first up at Bundaberg last
Saturday, trained by Chris Gear.
John said,Chris Gear sent Passionate Eyes to WA
on a two pup deal, and he is delighted with the result.
Dyna Villa’s oldest pups were whelped in March
this year, so we will have to wait until this time next
year to see them on the track. Thanks John.

HOOP ARM LURE TO BE ROLLED OUT
Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW)
has commenced the installation of a
hoop arm lure system at all
greyhound tracks in NSW in its
continued efforts to reduce racing
related injuries.
The hoop arm lure system has been in effect at races
held at Richmond Race Club since July this year with
feedback from participants largely positive.
Crucially, since the hoop arm lure system was
introduced, a GRNSW analysis of injury data has found
a 22.36% decrease in major/catastrophic injury rates at
Richmond.
Reducing interference between greyhounds during
racing is a priority to reduce racing injuries.
Additionally, reducing the risk of collision with the
inside running rail is essential to increasing racing
safety.
The installation of the new hoop arm lure system is
aimed at achieving these objectives and will be
reviewed for potential improvements as results are
received from research projects examining chase
motivation in greyhounds and optimum track design.
Hoop arm lures will first be installed at Gosford, The
Gardens and Nowra with trials of the new lure system
to take place throughout December before being used
at all future race meetings.

BALLARAT CUP REVIEW Local superstar Zambora
Brockie ($1.80) won the
2016 $110,000 Energis
Ballarat Cup on Friday
night for Myrniong trainer
Anthony Azzopardi.
Superstar Zambora
Brockie races away to win the Ballarat Cup (All It’s
been a big couple of days for the former NSW trainer,
who celebrated his birthday today by snaring his
second group win in two days after Topper Terretto
won the Puppy Championship at Dapto on Thursday
night.
Continued on Page 2 …
2
Tonight’s win was fitting as not only did Zambora
Brockie collect the $77,000 first prize, he also won
the $50,000 country cups bonus, taking his night’s
work to $127,000.
“He did it the hard way,” Azzopardi said after the win.
“He found trouble which cost his three or four lengths,
but I knew when he got clear and straightened up he’d
be hard to beat.”
Zambora Brockie is the toast of the town.
“I’m very proud to call this my local track. We live
only half an hour away and all the staff here are
fantastic, as are all the people who have come out here
tonight. All of the trainers and owners appreciate your
support.”
“It’s a privilege to be a trainer in Victoria. I’ve raced
in a lot of states and Victoria is 10 lengths clear of the
rest,” Azzopardi said.
Anthony said training his team of dogs was a team
effort that involved the help of close friends and
family.
After Zambora Brockie the runners in the field
finished in the following order: Judicial Man ($6.20),
Weekend Binge ($8.10), Black Mumbo ($13.10),
Diego Bale ($27.40),Zinzan Brooke ($5.40),

Bob McKinnon Part 1
Great Falls Montana (USA)
Maddog McDermutt, greyhound
controversial, satirical writer, has
gone overboard.
I can say that because that’s
me. Bob McKinnon. Split
personality. Schizophrenia. Nom de
Plume!!!
For years my counter ego (the
man’s an idiot) Maddog has written
for The Greyhound Review,
published in Abilene, Kansas, US,
story after story, month after month,
the career beginning with off-the-
wall fiction evolving into more
journalistic efforts with visits and
interviews to Greyhound farms and
tracks in America, Australia, New
Zealand, England, Wales, Scotland,
Mexico and Canada.
“What remains,” Maddog says,
“is Ireland. We have not been to
Ireland yet. They should brace
themselves, we’re talking about it.”
Robert Scott McKinnon’s first
book, Moose, Bruce and the goose,
was about a greyhound, published in
1965 by Bobbs Merrill, followed five
years later with To Yellowstone: A
Journey Home, published by Holt,
Rinehart and Winston, which had a
Disney option contract on it for three
years. Then, a third novel, Down
Under Jones, published by the Iowa
Greyhound Association. A fourth
novel, Jesse’s Hound, originally
published in The Greyhound Review
for nine consecutive months, is now
on Amazon.
I’m almost 80 and I had a lot of
“stuff” here and there. I decided to
check out Amazon. On my own. No
publisher.
What happened was some
thirty titles on Amazon, such as:
Vintage Maddog #1, #2, #3, #4 and #
5. Five eight story collections.
Maddog and his cronies and
adventures in the world of dog
racing.
Moose Bruce and the goose, juvenile
novel. Moose is a greyhound.
Sport of Queens, an Iowa greyhound
magazine.
From Cairo to Iowa: On the Trail of
the Racing Greyhound. , an Iowa
greyhound magazine.
The Captain’s Dog Part 1, Part 2,
Part 3. A Newfoundland, not a
greyhound.
A Maddog trilogy (the three Iowa
magazines stuck together).
And now, ladies and
gentlemen, next in the queue, a
forthcoming novel Stubs Feral.
I think this novel is going to go
viral, eventually.
In spite of Maddog McDermutt. I
think one day it’ll be a movie. The
main character is a cat.
Here’s what one scholarly
reviewer and English teacher, Todd
Johnson, had to say after having
taken a peek at the manuscript.
Hey Maddog, I really enjoyed Stubs
Feral. It is a much richer, more
compelling story than what you first
showed me, and I had fun reading it.
From the well-developed characters,
especially Twigy, to the all of the
wonderful greyhound stories, to
Twigy’s interaction with the school
kids, to the fantastic, well-imagined
life of Stubs and all of his magical
powers and relationships, it is a good
read.
Questions all fall to the
wayside as more and more kids and
teachers are part of the audience, and
more and more the reader is willing
to suspend any disbelief while
waiting to see what happens next.
That is a true sign of a
successful story.
Stubs Feral features
greyhounds, two in particular, and
the supporting characters are the
jinny pit judge and track vet, and
their sons, and a cat.
I think one pictorial scene of
two young boys teaching a big pup
how to lead … classic, viral stuff for
U tube and Facebook and all the rest.
Walter Farley and his Black
Stallion series, a series which most
kids read twice and maybe again as
adults, and Daymon Runyon, a New
York journalist with humorous and
sentimental tales of horse track
gamblers and hustlers, which
eventually led to the famous musical
Guys and Dolls.
For pity’s sake the Black
Stallion was an Arabian, doesn’t
matter.
