DIRECT SPEECH

Tell and Ask

We use the imperative to make positive requests and to give orders “Please SIT down” the teacher said “BE quiet” the teacher said to us

INDIRECT SPEECHTo + base form

DIRECT SPEECH

SAY and TELLTell + object (THAT can be ommitted after SAY and TELL)

We use a past tense to report what someone has said. We also change pronouns and possessive adjectives
