Press Release

12 March 2016CeBIT 2016 (Monday, 14, to Friday, 18, March):

CeBIT-Trendspots– Issue 5

On 14 March, CeBIT will open its gates in Hannover, with a host of companies eager to showcase thousands of innovations from the digital world. The CeBIT Trendspots offer a little taster of what you can expect to find at the fair. Issue 4 is being published today, but more are set to follow, right up till the start of the fair.

The Internet of All Things Bright and BeautifulThe best things in life undoubtedly include a glass of good wine. At CeBIT 2016, Intel is revealing how the quality of vines can be improved using the cutting-edge technology in its TracoVino project – the Internet of Things (IoT) for winemakers.

If a winemaker already has a smart home and smartphone, then why not a smart vineyard too? In the future, real-time information about the soil and climate could be used to help vines flourish in optimum conditions. Using Intel technology, Nuremberg-based MyOmega has developed a solar-powered IoT system called TracoVino which is being piloted in the renowned Mosel valley as of July of last year. TracoVino is based on MyOmega’s My NeXt Generation IoT platform

– MYNXG for short – which cleverly links together sensor networks, smartphones, cellular network elements and the cloud.

At CeBIT 2016, experts from Intel are explaining how their IoT components ensure the data required to optimize and adjust winegrowing techniques finds its way quickly and reliably from the vine to the MYNXG controller, the cloud and ultimately the winegrower’s smartphone. Detailed real-time information – such as the humidity and temperature of the air and soil, the strength of the sun and light intensity, and the soil’s pH and nutrient levels – help winegrowers compile important analyses and forecasts so they can take the appropriate measures in good time and keep their vines in the best possible condition. And so Georg Christoph Lichtenberg’s saying remains true in the digital age: “Wine has been behind some of the greatest achievements.”Intel Deutschland GmbH (85622 Feldkirchen, Germany), Hall 2, Stand B30

Shopping QueenThe cloud solution that T-Systems partner Ivalua is showcasing at CeBIT 2016 in Hannover now enables companies to optimize their procurement processes and so get more added value from them.

When Ferdinand Piëch surprisingly poached Spaniard José Ignacio López de Arriortúa for Volkswagen from General Motors in 1993, the topic of efficient procurement was launched into the public consciousness for the very first time. Even though that particular signing backfired spectacularly, it doesn’t change the fact that procurement plays a key role in the world of business – accounting for up to 80 percent of external value creation. Anyone in this field

will undoubtedly be interested in the new procurement solution called Ivalua Buyer that provides buyers with software from the secure Telekom cloud. The cloud solution that T-Systems partner Ivalua is showcasing at CeBIT 2016 enables companies to optimize their procurement processes and so get more added value from them.

As T-Systems hosts this modular procurement solution exclusively on its own data centers in Germany, all the data is safeguarded by the country’s stringent regulations. What’s more, T-Systems is responsible for the consulting, implementation, integration and Ivalua services, so customers get an all-in-one end-to-end solution with Ivalua Buyer. T-Systems offers companies a cost-free Ivalua demo so they can gage the savings they could make by completing a T-Systems procurement quick-check. Deutsche Telekom, whose own purchasing volume runs into several billions of euros per year, started using the Ivalua Buyer cloud solution itself for sourcing and contract management in January 2016. Cloud AtlasThe PaaSport project that the German Federation of IT SMEs is unveiling at CeBIT 2016 was conceived to help European cloud providers – primarily small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – offer interoperable PaaS services.

The PaaSport project was launched at the end of 2013 to help tackle the often considerable application and transferability problems that are encountered when developing cloud applications. The aim is to

ensure that European cloud providers, particularly SMEs, can offer interoperable PaaS services in the future. This involved creating a non-invasive comparison portal for cloud services known as the cloud broker to offer end consumers a range of tools to help them choose the best option from the range of cloud services.

Users can even try out various prototypes and demonstrators to explore their functions in advance. PaaSport, an EU-sponsored Platform-as-a-Service marketplace initiative, is being unveiled at CeBIT 2016 in Hannover at the bitmi pavilion run by the German Federation of IT SMEs (Bundesverband IT-Mittelstand e.V.). The emergence of this flexible and efficient new approach to cloud provision and migration should boost the competitiveness of SMEs and the quality of their services. As a result, PaaSport is expected to help generate more attractive offers and better reach when it comes to potential customers, particularly in the pan-European software industry. Guaranteed gone for good!HSM GmbH has developed the Powerline HDS 230 hard driver destroyer in direct response to the Federal Office for Data Security’s recommendation for more professional disposal of used hard drives. The impressive device is on show at CeBIT 2016 in Hannover.

It’s common knowledge that disposing of data storage devices that held sensitive and confidential information calls for the utmost care. After all, this kind of data can severely compromise a business. But what exactly should you do with your obsolete physical storage

media? Hard disks can be wiped using special software or demagnetized by degaussing. But is this really enough? The course of action recommended by the Federal Office for Data Security is dismantle and destroy! To save administrators from having to rip hard disks to shreds using hammers, chisels, grinders and cutting torches, HSM GmbH based near Lake Constance has come up with a rather impressive hard disk destroyer called the HSM Powerline HDS 230, which it’s showcasing at CeBIT 2016.

The HSM Powerline HDS 230 crushes and mills hard disks using heavy-duty steel cutting shafts – similar to the way paper is shredded. The advantages of a hard disk destroyer like this are quite clear! Not only is the process 100% effective, but the results are immediately visible and clear-cut. Plus it only takes seconds to shred data storage this way, which means big time savings, especially when it comes to destroying in bulk. Shredding also means any data on the hard disks is guaranteed gone for good and can never be fully retrieved.HSM GmbH + Co. KG (88699 Frickingen, Germany), Hall 6, Stand E05

Data thieves outsmarted!Under CeBIT’s headline topic of security, Backes SRT GmbH is showcasing its SRT Boxify mobile device management solution, the first true BYOD for all Android devices (from version 4.1).

Once again, CeBIT 2016 in Hannover is focusing on security and dedicating Hall 6 to this headline. After all, we are living in an age of ever-increasing digitalization and networking with exciting new prospects such as the Internet of Things and Bring Your Own Device

(BYOD). Even the most positive thinkers are quick to concede that this makes fertile ground for malicious spies, hackers and other data thieves. So it’s reassuring to know that SRT Boxify, which Backes SRT GmbH is showcasing at CeBIT, is the first product to genuinely enable BYOD for all Android devices from version 4.1 on.

To keep corporate data firmly under lock and key on the move, SRT Boxify uses processes such as sandboxing and virtualization to create secure containers for isolating business and private applications and data. These containers can secure any application and dynamically administer the related rights and communications. When combined with an automatable set-up, the SRT Boxify provides companies and their employees with a customized, efficient working environment that also reinforces their corporate identity and applies all the relevant company guidelines.Backes SRT GmbH (66123 Saarbrücken, Germany), Hall 6, Stand D28, partner of Saarland University, WuT

decided to take part in its very first CeBIT this year – and with good reason. In the words of LeaseWeb Deutschland GmbH managing director Benjamin Schönfeld, “Quite simply, CeBIT is the largest and most important IT trade fair in the world.” The LeaseWeb Group operates nine data centers across Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the United States, all supported by a huge network of over 65,000 physical servers and a total capacity of 5.0 Tbps.

“Studies indicate that global digital data volumes will reach some 40 trillion bytes by 2020 – up from just 5 trillion bytes in 2000,” says Schönfeld. “We set up and operate the infrastructure required to process these unprecedented data volumes and help our customers make use of them by means of effective business models.” This ambitious outlook is reflected in the network’s bold slogan for its CeBIT début: “From the cloud to custom solutions – grow with LeaseWeb!” At CeBIT 2016, the hosting experts will be exhibiting a wide range of infrastructure-as-a-service solutions that are particularly well suited to large companies, SMEs and startups in search of a reliable hosting partner. The portfolio on show ranges from bare metal servers and private and public cloud solutions right through to content distribution networks (CDN). documents quickly and reliably into 35 of the most commonly used business languages.

As the distribution partner for the windream enterprise content management (ECM) system, ecmXperts specializes in document management and workflow solutions. Its service portfolio to date includes automated invoice processing linked to the audit-proof windream archive, as well as workflow solutions for business process management and document scanning with automatic archiving. Based in Hoevelaken in the Netherlands, the service provider is at CeBIT this year with Xpert Translator – another innovative tool designed for windream that can be used to translate documents quickly and reliably into 35 of the most commonly used business languages.

The way it works is very simple. After selecting the document via the windream-specific context menu in Windows Explorer, the user then specifies the target language and chooses between machine translation or a language service provider. The software identifies the source language and quickly calculates the cost of translation before the order is placed. The data transfer process is protected from industrial espionage, damage and theft by Transenter’s Lingosec software, which won the 2014 LT-Innovate Award. Machine translation is usually completed within seconds, while translations passed on to professionals take between six and forty-eight hours, depending on the volume. What’s more, these time-optimized processes can also help customers make significant cost savings over conventional translation services.ecmXperts – owners Michiel S. Corts & Antonius P. P. Keeping quality and process management on the same track!Set to be unveiled for the first time at CeBIT 2016, the YAVEON Quality and Process Manager provides a secure environment for archiving, editing and checking processes and documents in databases. It can also be used as an intelligent portal for making sure employees can access the information they need, while integrated workflows ensure all relevant compliance requirements are met.

Often carried out within the context of quality management, audits are used to check that the processes, specifications and guidelines in a particular company all meet the relevant standards. With official and industrial audits now part and parcel of the way many companies operate, a large number choose to document and map out their business processes, often compiling and publishing quality management documents, too. However, with many of these process documents and instructions stored as static files or printed out only to be signed and tucked away in a folder, they quickly disappear from view. This can mean that the documented processes are only updated when the next audit comes around – and even then, they may well bear little resemblance to the procedures as they are actually carried out. Process and quality management can also become fragmented, leading to different perceptions of the business processes in question. At worst, quality assurance can be left out of process management altogether, with quality control not considered a process in its own right.

Set to be unveiled at CeBIT 2016, the YAVEON Quality and Process Manager is a solution that keeps these two fields connected long-

term, while also delivering an extensive range of benefits over alternative systems. Key advantages include the establishment of an integrated and paperless quality management system; single-platform management and control for QM processes and documents; execution, monitoring and authorization for QM processes; and integration of QM documents and QM processes within a central repository. The system also ensures auditing compliance for processes and documents, serves as a company-wide information portal and provides secure options for disclosure control and electronic signatures.YAVEON AG (97080 Würzburg, Germany), Hall 4, Stand A56

Second-hand software – but don’t forget your license! It’s all in the name... SoftCorner, based in France, is at CeBIT 2016 to show that easy access to used software is just round the corner – license and services included!

EU-wide trading platform SoftCorner is at CeBIT to demonstrate the potential of buying and selling used software as a key element in software asset management. In fact, studies conducted by the French industrial association Cigref indicate that sales of used software in Europe are languishing at eight-figure levels – whereas the total market value of secondary software is estimated at some 5 billion euros. What’s more, the legal situation has now been quite clear for some time, following a ruling by the European Court of Justice on 3 July 2012 that ended the uncertainty that had previously held many companies back from buying used software.

Launched by a group of young web and IT companies in 2014, SoftCorner is a platform that businesses can use to buy and sell

unused software licenses in line with their current requirements. SoftCorner kick-starts this process by assuming responsibility for checking all the relevant information and establishing trust between buyers and sellers. Once two companies decide they want to go ahead with a purchase contract, SoftCorner provides all the legal documents for the transfer so that the buyer can activate the software in question. If required, SoftCorner can also facilitate contact with consulting companies, service providers and distributors to help support the relevant business partners both before and after the transaction is completed. There is no charge for this service – and it is also free to register and post offers. Costs are only incurred when a deal is sealed. Clearing the hurdlesGrenoble-based startup EnerBee is appearing at CeBIT in Hannover with a wireless and battery-free rotary dimmer – could this finally mark the end of the long search for an all-in-one solution for smart lighting controls?

All too often, the path to converting a conventional home into a smart home is disrupted by three major hurdles – cabling, energy supply, compatibility and costs. OK, that makes four hurdles. Add programming and control into the mix and that takes us up to five. And of course we can’t forget the so-called “spouse acceptance factor” – getting your long-suffering partner to approve your latest idea for a new gadget. However, hurdles aren’t dead ends. After all, obstacles are there to be cleared. What’s more, in a world where it only seems there’s nothing left to discover, these hurdles also offer

innovative startups a number of gaps that can be well worth closing. At CeBIT this year, SCALE11 is the perfect forum for all these innovative movers and shakers.

Back to those smart home hurdles – EnerBee is one of the startups featuring at CeBIT, and is showcasing a wireless and battery-free rotary dimmer that really comes up with the goods. At long last, the end is in sight for switch and lighting manufacturers looking for an all-in-one solution for smart light controls. Key to the dimmer module is the multi-patented EnerBee micro generator, uniquely designed to convert the simple act of turning the dimmer knob into enough power to send light control commands via a wireless signal. Thanks to the ZigBee communication protocol, the EnerBee dimmer can easily be integrated into most smart home solutions currently available on the market. for making decisions. And when it comes to production operations, Cassantec AG from CeBIT Partner Country Switzerland is doing just that. Cassantec Prognostics is an algorithm that adds an explicit prognostic horizon to predictive maintenance. The new release is being showcased for the first time at CeBIT 2016.

The SaaS solution Cassantec Prognostics helps companies get an early idea of when faults will occur in industrial plants and machinery. The latest version has a wide range of extensions. “We are constantly working to expand the range of potential applications by analyzing data for condition-based forecasts,” explains Moritz von Plate, CEO of Cassantec. “The difficulty in maintenance management, along with condition monitoring and preventive maintenance, is finding the right strategy for plants and machinery. We simplify this decision by preparing a condition-based forecast that gives explicit prognostic horizons for faults,” says von Plate. Cassantec Prognostics uses a traffic signal to show users when a fault is going to occur – in the ideal scenario it should be possible to look months ahead and, in some cases, even years. The new version of Cassantec Prognostics includes a scenario calculator for future operating regimes, an extensive results and data library and retrospective data analysis. Visitors to CeBIT 2016 can test out the new digital crystal ball for themselves, as Cassantec is staging live forecasts from the mining, energy, oil and gas, and transport sectors at the fair.Cassantec GmbH (10625 Berlin, Germany), Hall 11, Stand B38Topic: Internet of Things

The Cologne-based GUS Group, partner of Trovarit AG, is celebrating the premiere of its completely revamped GUS-OS Suite 6.0 at the ERP-Park during this year’s CeBIT in Hannover.

As an ERP supplier, the GUS Group specializes in the process industry and logistics and is bringing version 6.0 of its GUS-OS Suite to Trovarit AG’s ERP-Park at CeBIT 2016. The Cologne software house and consultancy has completely reworked its ERP software to tailor it even more closely to the increased demands of a digitalized work and production environment. The GUS Group has expanded the system’s comprehensive underlying technology platform to integrate numerous new functions alongside the user-friendly interface.

As a result, meeting specific customer requirements is much easier than before thanks to parameterization (customizing). A new workflow designer helps map standard scenarios more accurately and simplify the creation of new business processes, without the need for complex programming. A major focal point while developing these innovations was to keep experienced GUS-OS Suite users happy – the new release does not affect tried-and-tested business logic. GUS also offers a seamless update path for upgrading from the previous version 5.3, which ensures the new pages and functions are automatically installed. That said, users can still decide which of them they ultimately want to activate.GUS Deutschland GmbH (50968 Cologne, Germany), Hall 5, Stand E04, (11\12)

ERP specialist Asseco Solutions has a team of eight partners at CeBIT in Hannover to show how the new APplus interface framework operates and the benefits of its specific functionalities.

The levels of automation that the fourth industrial revolution promises to deliver will need processes and information to flow as seamlessly as possible across all production stages. To date, this has increasingly meant having to incorporate third-party systems into central ERP systems and accept the additional maintenance workload that brings. To stop this trend from getting out of hand, Karlsruhe-based Asseco Solutions AG has launched a new interface framework designed to ensure companies can integrate third-party systems but avoid the outlay on programming and maintenance. The ERP specialist for SMEs is getting together with eight partners at CeBIT to show how the new APplus interface framework operates and how users can benefit from its specific functionalities.

The APplus interface framework handles the communication between the ERP solution and third-party systems, no matter what their original data structure. A special communicator converts all the outgoing information into a generic data structure so that another communicator on the receiving end can decrypt it, thereby eliminating the programming outlay otherwise required to connect to external systems. Maintenance outlay is also significantly reduced, as neither updates nor any modifications to the external systems will affect a custom-programmed interface. Scientists from the Max-Planck Institute for Informatics at Saarland University are at CeBIT 2016 to show just how easy it can be to reconstruct faces from video recordings.

It’s no big secret any more that actors in movies often have their faces computer-edited during post-production. This requires three-dimensional facial models that are created using complex measurement processes and integrated into movie scenes by hand – or at least it did. Now the Max-Planck Institute for Informatics, Saarland University and multimedia group Technicolor are at CeBIT 2016 to exhibit a simpler and much faster solution. All they need is a standard video and the computing power to create exceptionally detailed facial models dubbed “face rigs”.

This simplified process is based on a new approach to reconstructing surfaces from videos and adapting them on a computer. “We use mathematical methods to evaluate the parameters needed to capture all the details of the facial model,” explains Christian Theobalt, head of the Graphics, Vision and Video group at Saarbrücken’s Max-Planck Institute and professor of computer science at Saarland University. “In addition to facial geometry (the shape of the surfaces), this includes the reflection characteristics and ambient lighting.” Besides lowering costs in the movie industry, this new process could also help lend a personal touch to avatars in the virtual world, online personal assistants and virtual contacts in future telepresence applications. “Our technology can help people feel more comfortable about communicating with and through avatars,” adds Theobalt. Cyber space, the final frontier! On a mission to educate and inform, Sophos GmbH is at CeBIT to highlight cyber hazards under the motto “Discover” with an eye-catching original NASA space suit on board.

The German subsidiary of British security specialist Sophos is bringing its new Synchronized Security solutions to Hannover along with pooled expertise on cyber hazards – all under the motto “Discover”. Senior Security Expert John Shier from Sophos Labs is making a special trip from the USA to provide an overview of the international hacker scene in his capacity as an RSA speaker and IT security blogger. He will also be looking at geo-malware, a recent development whereby generic malware attacks are increasingly being adapted to target specific regional attributes. It’s the strategy behind the recent wave of ransomware attacks, for example.

However, Sophos is not just getting the word out, it is also exhibiting effective solutions to deal with next-generation threats. The team from Wiesbaden is joined by three distributors and six partners to showcase coordinated collaboration of end-user and network solutions live at a total of 13 demo stations. Among the hardware highlights on show will be nine Heartbeat-supporting next-generation XG firewalls, firewalls from the SG series with a brand new UTM update including sandboxing and new WAF and VPN technologies. The latest version of the SafeGuard encryption solution for endpoint security is also on the starting blocks and there are a number of new features for Endpoint Protection Suites.Sophos GmbH (65189 Wiesbaden, Germany), Hall 6, Stand E17

Digitalization – one-size-fits-all or made-to-measure?Software AG is at CeBIT 2016 with its customers and partners to advocate an end to standard IT and promote localized, flexible and agile programming.

“How can companies deal with digitalization and make sure they get their slice of the many new business opportunities presenting themselves?” That is the question that Software AG, along with partners including T-Systems, Capgemini, Pepperl+Fuchs and Scheer, is seeking to answer at CeBIT 2016. After all, digitalization is much more than a short-term phenomenon. The Software AG stand focuses on new business models and lean business processes and which products and services need to be customized so that companies can keep up with the fast-paced and global digital markets.

At CeBIT 2016 in Hannover, Software AG is advising businesses to turn away from standard IT in favor of localized, flexible and agile programming and is exhibiting technologies and application scenarios that can support a successful transition to a genuine digital company. Given the wide-ranging requirements and demands that are out there, digitalization comes in many different shapes and forms, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution – which is why Software AG is showcasing its Digital Business Platform 2.0 at CeBIT. DeutschlandLAN NFON – that’s the tongue-twister of a name that Deutsche Telekom has given its new IP-based telephony offering for businesses. Telekom will be providing the first in-depth look at the new system at CeBIT 2016 in Hannover.

In the run-up to CeBIT 2016, Deutsche Telekom AG and Munich-based NFON AG, the European market leader in cloud-based telephony systems, announced their future collaboration as strategic partners. The aim of the partnership is to make it easier for SMEs to switch from outmoded ISDN systems to cutting-edge IP telephony and help customers to set up and manage their telephone systems independently. Besides the technical side to the collaboration, the two companies will also run joint marketing campaigns, work together on sales support and organize further market-specific activities.

DeutschlandLAN NFON offers customers a cloud service that is developed, run and supported exclusively in Germany. The Internet-based telephone system will also feature all the functionalities that its physical predecessors did. Indeed, supplementary functions such as call management, voicemail and call routing can be set intuitively via the web-based user interface. “Our future-proof telecommunications solution supports mobile working and enables family-friendly teleworking models,” says Dirk Backofen, Vice President Business Marketing at Telekom Deutschland GmbH. Employees can use the cloud-based telephone system no matter where they are – in the office, in their home office or on the move with their cellphone. All they need is Internet access. The DeutschlandLAN telephone system based on NFON can also be

Hands-on projectionAIPTEK International GmbH is at CeBIT 2016 in Hannover to unveil its solution for interactive touchscreen projection and a combined portable HD projector and Bluetooth speaker system with integrated battery.

As you would expect from a “Global leader of mobile projection”, Taiwanese company AIPTEK is bringing several extraordinary projection-related innovations to CeBIT 2016. First and foremost is the compact Flicks, the first projector with HD resolution and a brightness of 700 lumens. Equipped with a DLP chip from Texas Instruments, Flicks features integrated stereo speakers that can be supplied with audio signals through a cable or wirelessly via Bluetooth. A fast HDMI input is available for the image signal. Moreover, whether using the projector for work or for entertainment, there’s no need to worry about the technical capabilities that are on hand, as Flicks has its own decent-sized integral battery. Presentations, movies and soccer matches are reproduced directly and with no limitations in outstanding audio and video quality – even in bright environments.

Another technical innovation that AIPTEK is exhibiting is the DG-VTa. This device is a compact dongle for the HDMI input that transforms the projector’s projection surface into an interactive touchscreen display. A stylus supplied with the DG-VTa acts as a sensor. As soon

as it is moved over the projection surface, the surface responds like a touchscreen, converting the signals accordingly via the dongle. Users can therefore swipe over a presentation to change pages or highlight areas – two styluses can even be used to enable a zoom function. Thanks to its integrated WiFi, DG-VTa also allows users to stream content directly from smartphones or tablets with an Android operating system.
