01. The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC

Introduction Our college was established in 1969 under the Managing

Committee appointed by the educational trust–Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur which was established in 1932. Digvijai Nath Post Graduate College, Gorakhpur is situated in the heart of the city on main road side of the Civil Lines area. It is about 1.5 km from Gorakhpur railway station and 1.0 km from roadways bus stations.

His Holiness Late Digvijai Nathji, Mahant of Gorakhnath Temple, Gorakhpur was the

founder of our college. He was the great pioneer of educational renaissance in Eastern U.P. .

His Holiness Avedya Nath ji (Ex- M.P.), Mahant of Gorakhnath Temple, Gorakhpur is the manager of our college at present.

02.1. PART A-

21 Measures and Key Points College Action Plan (CAP) chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the session 2007-08 towards quality enhancement.

1. Teachers must be encouraged to undertake minor research projects.

2. There is a need to develop a system to monitor the student’s progress on a regular basis. There should be a system of terminal test examinations for the students to check half hearted approach in attending the classes and to give experience of full fledged examination prior to the University Examination.

3. Women’s Sexual Harassment Redressal Cell (WSHRC) should be more active. Records should be maintained.

4. To request MLC Dr. Y.D. Singh and Mayor Mrs. Anju Chaudhary for Cemented Road in College Campus.

5. Teachers in Self Financed Courses are being paid very low salary. This may be raised to meet the needs of the teachers and their families.

6. Cultural Activities should be arranged at college level. These events help overall personality development of the students.

7. There should be departmental library in bigger departments.

8. Games and Sports activities require more attention.

9. Inter Disciplinary Programmes should be organised to strengthen the knowledge of the students.

10. Improvement in Library : The Library has to be enriched by way of procuring latest Standard Books, Reference Books as well as subject related Journals. Library operation should be computerized and it has to be properly managed.

11. The Infrastructure of the College requires better furnishing and addition of classrooms.

12. Guidance & Counseling Cell (GCC) needs to be formalised and record should be maintained.

13. There should be a vehicle in the college for smooth functioning .

14. The College should have its own website for Internet connectivity.

15.Continuous Internal Evaluation: - To ensure effective learning, the college should introduce continuous internal evaluation by way of regular periodical written tests, teaching aids, oral presentation and assignment.

16. Seminars etc. should be organised in the college and UGC may be approached for financial support.

17. A beginning may be made to introduce Campus Placement facility for the students.

18. The office operations require more streamlining and immediate Computerisation.

19. There should be a ‘Permanent Maintenance Wing (PMG)’ in the college.

20. Cow Catchers at gates of Main Building and Arts Buildings must be constructed to protect the trees and gardens from animals .

21.More teachers should be appointed by the managing committee to take due care of the increasing number of students.

02.2 PART A- The Outcome achieved by the end of the year

1. Minor Research Project-

Many departments are very keen to bring about qualitative improvement in the academic environment of the college. As a result Dr. Smt. Sheela Singh from Psychology Department and Smt Veena Gopal from Political Science Department presented their Minor Research Projects to the UGC. It is very happy to state that UGC has approved and sanctioned the projects.

2. Pre- University Examination & Evaluation (PUEE)-

Pre-University Examination and Evaluation, 2007-08 was conducted in the college from February18 to March 01, 2008 for B.Sc., B.Com. & M.A. classes following the patterns adapted by Gorakhpur University for the Annual Examination. After evaluation the result was placed on the notice board for information of students. Later on a few classes were also held to solve the difficulties which students faced in answering the questions. The PUEE for B.A. classes will be undertaken next year.

3. Women’s Sexual Harassment Redressal Cell (WSHRC) –

WSHRC has been established in the college to solve the problems regarding woman students. The coordinator Dr. Smt. Kumud Srivastava reader & HOD Education and other members are solving the difficulties of woman students efficiently. The committee is-

4. Roads – The roads of 153 meters length in the campus of Arts Building

has been constructed with cement and concrete. The work of cemented construction of the road at the main building of the college is in progress.

5. Salary-

The management has raised the salary of teachers in self financed courses during session 2007-08. Still IQAC is perusing the management to raise salary further to meet the needs of the teachers and their families.

6. Cultural Activities-

Keeping in view of the all round development of students and broadening their outlook, expression and mental horizon in lieu of the academic activities, many cocurricular activities were organised in this session.

(i) A lecture competition was organized on ‘Swami Vivekanand’ on Jan 12, 2008.

(ii) Birth Anniversary of ‘Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’ was commemorated on Jan 23, 2008. A General Knowledge competition for students was also conducted on this day.

(iii) A Quiz Competition for students was held on January 25, 2008.

The students, both boys and girls, who were successful in lectures, general knowledge test and quiz competition were awarded prizes & certificates on the Republic Day, the 26 January, 2008.

7. Departmental Library -

In present session, departmental library has been established in B.Ed. & M.A. departments. This will provide the students with the facility to read the books in addition to those issued to them from the Central Library. Other departments are heading to start departmental library in next session.

8. Games-

A plan has been chalked out regarding the expansion of facilities in games and sports. As a step towards this direction a cemented Badminton Court has been constructed at the campus of Main Building of the college.

9. Interdisciplinary Programmes –

Interdisciplinary lectures were organised on different subjects by the subject specialist from amongst the college teaching staff and also by the resource persons from outside.(i) On December 20, 2007 Dr. Naresh Chandra Gwari, the coordinator

of IQAC delivered a lecture on the ‘Necessity & Utility of the NAAC’. The audience included both the students (Boys & Girls) and the respected members of teaching staff.

(ii) On January 14, 2008 Dr. smt Sheela Singh Reader in Psychology and also the Carrier Counselor delivered a lecture on ‘Carrier Counseling’. She gave the students (Boys & Girls) some tips on how they can choose a suitable career and impress the interviewers while facing an interview committee.

(iii) On March 05, 2008 an extension lecture was also organised in the dept. of Defence Studies on a topic ‘Morality & Energetic behavior of Youth’. The main speaker on the subject Colonel B.P. Shahi, Group Commander of NCC in DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur urged the students to prepare themselves to serve the country.

(iv) On March 10, 2008 an extension lecture was organised in the Dept. of Defence Studies on a burning subject ‘The Nuclear Power’. The resource person and the main speaker on the subject Prof. R.P. Yadav, the Head of Dept. of Defence Studies in DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur delivered a very learned lecture.

(v) On May 05, 2008 a guest lecture was organised in the hall of Gorakhnath Temple. The main speaker Eminent Prof Mahesh Singh, Retd. Chemistry Prof. from Baroda delivered lecture on the subject ‘India should lead the world’. The management committee members, the teachers and administrative staff of our college were present as audience in this lecture.

10. Improvement in Library-

The Library administration is working on a new cataloging system. New books of quality on each subject have been purchased. Research journals have also been made available to faculties. The following research journals are beaing procured in our library-

11. Infrastructure : The addition of class rooms

In the campus of Arts Faculty a new massive building with its ground and first floor is nearing completion. Different departments of Arts Faculty are gradually being transferred to new building.

Seven new classrooms have been constructed this year. Thus at present we have in total 24 class rooms in the college (Appendix - 01).

12. Guidance & Counseling Cell-

On 25 August, 2008 the occasion of 28th anniversary of Digvijai Nath P.G. College, Gorakhpur, a Guidance & Counseling Cell (GCC) was established. The coordinator of GCC is Dr. Smt. Sheela Singh, Reader in Psychology of the college. This centre helped the students, solved their personal educational & emotional problems and thus the students came nearer to the teachers. Under the guidance of Dr. Smt. Sheela Singh four students of the college have been selected for job in Apex Laboratories Ltd., Chennai, a fast growing 26 years old company (see page 27).

13. Vehicle -

In an institution of higher education, a vehicle of its own is a necessity. Hence, after the kind approval of the managing committee to buy a vehicle for the college, an Ambassador A.C. Car has recently been purchased.

14. Website -

Our college has its own website (www.dnpg.org) on which the informations regarding the college is available. We are in a process to make the website up to date till the end of this session.

15. Continuous Internal Evaluation -

The college has introduced Pre-University Examination & Evaluation (PUEE) system this year. PUEE 2008 was conducted in the college from February 18 to March 01, 2008 for B.Sc., B.Com. & M.A. classes.

The students are also regularly evaluated by examining their practical records and actual performances in the classes. Short class tests are also arranged in the classes occasionally. The teachers take the help of charts, models, over-head projectors & audio-visual aids to clarify the matter.

16. Seminar -

The Ancient History Department in the convenership of Dr. Smt. Geeta Dutt has very successfully conducted a National Seminar on December 22 - 23, 2007 on the subject ‘Bharatiya Itihas Lekhan : Chunautiyan Aur Naye Aayam’. This is undoutedly a big step ahead towards the academic standard of the college and creating a reflective and innovative environment. Thanks to UGC for financial support of one lakh rupees to hold this seminar.

17. Campus Placement -

A fast growing 26 years old Apex Laboratories Ltd. Chennai having a turnover of one hundred crore a year and occupying twelfth position in India canducted a Campus Interview of B.Sc. final year students of our college. Company held its interview in science faculty of our college. The company selected three boy and one girl students which elevates the standard of our college. We owe for this achievement to the Accreditation of our college by NAAC.

Thus beginning has been made to introduce Campus Placement in the college.

18. Computerization of office operations -

In the past few years the college has improved its financial status by starting self financed courses. Now the college has purchased computer. Office operations have been computerized and updated.

19. Permanent Maintenance wing-

A Permanent Maintenance Wing (PMW) in the college has been established. The members are -

20. Cow Catchers.

21. Part Time Teachers -

The literacy rate in eastern U.P. is one of the lowest in the country due to extreme poverty. Due to unavoidable circumstances the number of students admitted is continuously increasing. The management has appointed additional part time teachers to take due care of the increasing number of students this year 2008 (Appendix - 02).

03. PART BCriterion wise Report 1. Activities Reflecting the Goals and Objective of the Institution

The academic session begins with the admission of

students in the month of July every year purely on the basis of

marks secured in the qualifying examination with due statutary

provision for reservation to OBC/SC/ST students (Appendix - 03).

The number of students admitted in the last session 2006-07 was

4809.

The total number of permanent teaching staff is 33, non-

teaching staff is 40. The number of technical staff is 10. The

number of teaching staff under self-financing scheme is 19 and the

number of non-teaching staff under self-financing scheme is 19

(Appendix – 04 & 05).

The college was opened on 16 July, 2008. B.Sc. II and

B.Sc. III classes in 2007-08 were started on 8th August, 2007. B.A.

II & III classes were started on 10 August, 2007. After completion

of the first year admissions, other classes started in third week of

August. The number of students admitted in the session 2007-08

was 4,584 (page 25).

The Death Anniversary Week of the founder of the college

His Holiness Late Digvijai Nathji Maharaj is celebrated on third

day of Ashwin Krishna Paksh every year. This was celebrated on

14 September in session 2007-08. The Founder's Week is

celebrated with pomp and show every year from 4th December to

10th December. Several prizes and scholarships are given to

deserving and meritorious students in every walk of life by

distinguished chief guest on 10th December the concluding day

(Appendix - 06). The Guest of Honour on 10th December 2007 was

Bhai Mahavir Ji, Ex- Governor of M.P. The annual sport was

organised on 11-12 January in 2007-08. The successful students

were awarded with certificates and prizes on 26 January, 2008. We

are proud to say that our students won maximum prizes in

University games & sports. Our boys and girls have also secured

positions in Interuniversity, Interstate and National level sport

meets.

About 60% of enrolled students appeared in Pre-

University Examinations, 2008 held at the college on 28th to 1st

March 2008. About 95% of enrolled students appeared in annual

university examination in session 2006-07.

The drop out percentage in the final year examination

2006-07 was 40. The final year passout percentage of B.A. students

was 92.7 %, B.Sc. students was 98.3 %, B.Ed. students was 100 %,

B.Com. students was 99.3% and M.A. students was 96.1% during

session 2006-07 (Appendix - 07).

We have a good library with 27,765 books till 31 March

2008. Total 233 books amount Rs. 95,716=00 have been purchased

this year (Appendix - 08). For poor but meritorious students we

lend books through Book-Bank. We are working on Cataloging

System in the library. The working days of library during session

2007-08 were 265 whereas the total number of college working

days was 195.

A new massive building has been constructed during

2007-08 (Appendix -09). Various departments are being transferred

in new building. 153 Meter long roads, two cow catchers, one

badminton court all with concrete and cement have been

constructed.

Four NSS units are run in the college under the four

efficient and dynamic teachers. The programme officers organise

one day and 10 days camps. Necessary programmes are undertaken

by all members of NSS (Appendix -10).

The total college income in 2006-07 was 1,57,75,280=43

and expenditure was 1,12,12,500=75. Thus the balance left was

45,62,779=68 (Appendix -11).

We are proud to say that many of our teachers extended

their participation in D.D.U. Gorakhpur University examinations in

different ways such as members of flying squad, members of

evaluation committee, members of counseling committee, member

of examination committee etc.

Various co-curricular activities namely welcome and

farewell parties, cultural activities, interdisciplinary guest lectures,

campus placement etc. were organised.

Preparation leave for the students was announced from 5

march, 2008.

All the activities were completed under the supervision of

Different Community Services have been undertaken by four NSS units run in the college (page 52 - 53).

2. Process of admission- The students are invited to fill up the prescribed admission

form of the college. After cut of last date ‘Admission Screening Committee’ examine the application forms and constitute merit lists in which the reservations for OBC/SC/ST are followed.The following strategies are adopted to create access.

(a) Disadvantaged community :Due representations are given to SC=21%, ST=02% and OBC=27%.

(b) Women :02% Waitage are given to women candidates.

(c) Physically challenged :02% Horizontal reservations are given to physically challenged students.

(d) Economically weaker section of the society :There are no special provisions.

(e) Sports personnel :The students of exceptional sports talent are given direct admission.

1. Rastra Gaurav :Gorakhpur University has introduced a course on ‘Rastra

Gaurav’ to promote the past glory of our nation in the mind of budding students.

2. Recess/Assembly/Tutorial Period :We have introduced Recess/Assembly/Tuitorial Period in

our Science, B.Ed., Arts, Commerce and P.G. Classes time tables. We are in the process to introduce this programme in other faculties also.

3. IQAC Committee :Internal Quality Assurance cell headed by Dr. Bholendra

Singh, President of managing committee has been constituted to tone up the functioning of the college.

2. Yoga Centre :Our students and teachers participate in Yoga Centres run

by our management at Gorakhnath Temple as well as at our college. Dr. U.P. Singh, Reader in Geography of our college is trained in Yoga and gives training to desired students and staff members. The tension, anxiety and other related problems are

3. ‘Founder’s week’ and ‘Death Anniversary’ Functions :

Our staff members and all the students of the college gather and participate in the 'Founder's Week' closing function on 10th December every year and also in the 'Death Anniversary Week' closing function of Late Digvijai Nathji, Mahant of Gorakhnath Temple and founder of trust Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur and founder of our college. In these function all sister institutions participate and interact one another

4. Social Responsibilities and Citizenship Roles-Our management has created a platform where various

academic and social practices are shared. A big library hall in the college and a huge hall at Sri Gorakhnath Temple are the places of these healthy practices.

5. 'Fresher's Welcome Party', 'Student's Union Oath Ceremony' and 'Farewell Party' were organised by students to strengthen the brotherhood and interaction. We support and help them. Recently a farewell party for B.Sc.III students was organised by B.Sc.I & B.Sc.II students on 8-1-2007.

6. A Health Centre has been running under the supervision of an able and efficient doctor Dr. V.K. Singh who looks after day to day health problems and simple ailments. In case of emergency, students are sent to civil hospital or medical college after giving first-aid and other necessary supports.

7. Homage to Late Digvijai Nathji - The staff and students of all 21 sister institutions and one dozen affiliated institutions of Gorakhpur District run by M.P. Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur gather at the Gorakhnath Temple Auditorium Hall to pay Homage

8. N.S.S. Volunteers of our college were deputed to control the crowd and help in maintaining law and order in ‘Makar-Sankranti Mela’ on 14th/15th January at Gorakhnath Temple, religious peeth of our institution.

9. A community feast for more than 250 people was hosted by our college on 10 th December, 2007.

10. Tea Club- During Recess/Tutorial/Assembly period of the Time-

Table our teachers organise 'tea-club'. During this period the teachers interact and discuss a lot of things related to academic, social, cultural, moral and aesthetic spheres of life.

3. The procedure of purchase –The procedure of the college to purchase major items is

‘through quotations’. The requisition is made first. The requisition is sent to the manager of the college for sanction and approval. After sanction, the quotations are invited. Quotations and Comparative Charts are again sent to the manager for approval. The order is now placed to purchase the items on ‘lowest rate’ basis (Appendix-14).

04. PART C –

College Action Plan (CAP) : 21 Measures and Key Points for Session 2008-09

1. Teachers must be encouraged to undertake minor research projects.

2. Pre- University examination for the students of B.A. Classes will be undertaken to give experience of full fledged examination prior to the University Examination.

3. Alumni Association will be made more active. Records should be maintained.

4. To construct cemented road at main building.

5. IQAC will pursue the management to raise further the salary of part time teachers to meet the needs of the teachers and their families.

6. Cultural Activities should be arranged at college level. These events help overall personality development of the students.

7. There should be departmental library in bigger departments. Departmental Library will be established in Science & Psychology Departments.

8. Games and Sports activities require more attention. There should be a Gymnasium Hall in the college.

9. Improvement in Library: The Library has to be enriched by way of procuring latest Standard Books, Reference Books as well as subject related Journals. There should be cataloging system in library operation.

10.The Infrastructure of the College requires better furnishing. 1. Glass black boards will be fixed in place of old cemented black boards. 2. A big committee room will be constructed to organise the

meetings.

11. Drainage system of the college should be improved.

12.The college will develop ‘green lawn’ in Arts Campus in front of new building.

13.The college should have cycle stands for boys and girls separately. There should be separate entrance gates to avoid crowding and civic sense. The middle cycle stand which exists in front of new building should be closed for better front view.

14.Continuous Internal Evaluation: - To ensure effective learning, the college should introduce continuous internal evaluation by way of regular periodical written tests, teaching aids, charts & models, oral presentation and assignment etc.

15.More Seminars should be organised in the college and UGC may be approached for financial support.

16.Construction & Plastering of boundary will be undertaken. Iron grill will be fixed above the boundary to protect the campus and to give the campus beautiful look.

17.The office operations require more streamlining and complete computerization.

18.New blocks will be constructed for B.Com and B.Ed. .

19.There should be centrally speaker arrangement connecting different blocks – Library building- Lecture Room No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ; 7, 8, 9, 10; New building- 11, 12, 13 ; 14, 15, 16 & 17; Commerce Faculty- 18 & 19. Similar arrangement should be made at main building also.

20.The college will Pursue for P.G. classes in Hindi. Geography, Sociology and Phylosophy. The College will also Pursue for Physics, MATHS AND Computer Science.

21.More teachers should be appointed by the managing committee to take due care of the increasing number of students.

Extension Activities of the College NSS Units in session 2007-08

Our college has a rich tradition of promoting social consiousness among rural illiterate people through NSS. We have four NSS units each consisting of about 100 students, under the stewardship of four dynamic and able teachers as programme officer.

In 2007-08 the camps of Meerabai Unit was organised at Meerabai Hostel, Digvijai Nath P.G. College, Gorakhpur on 14 - 23 January, 2008 and Gorakhnath Unit, Gautambuddha Unit & Subhas Units were organised at M.P. Degree College, Jungle Dhoosan, Gorakhpur on 15-24 February, 2008.

The following works were undertaken by members of different units.

1. Community Development :(i) Cleaning and disinfection of choked drains and repair of

damaged street and roads during ten days camp.

(ii) Undertook repairing and cleaning of roads and drains during ten days camp.

2. Social Work :(i) Anti-dowry Rally was undertaken through the streets and roads

of the town on 12 January, 2008.

(ii) To promote awareness about small savings, family planning, population explosion and wall writings were undertaken on a massive scale.

3. Health and Hygiene Awareness :(i) A family planning campaign was organised.(ii) A rally was undertaken to make people conscious about AIDS

on 12 January, 2008.(iii) Active participation was ensured by volunteers in 'Pulse-Polio'

programmes during Yuva Week 12 - 19 January, 2008.

4. Adult Education and Literacy :To promote literacy specially 'Adult & Female Literacy', rally was organised during ten days camp and Yuva Week.

5. Aids Awareness :Awareness rally about the danger of AIDS was organised during ten days camp and Yuva Week.

6. Environmental Awareness :(i) Big rally against the danger of environmental pollution was

undertaken during ten days camp and Yuva Week.(ii) To discourage the use of polythene and polythene products a

rally was undertaken during Yuva Week. During rally polythene and polythene products were collected and burnt.

7. Any other activity :(i) A clean and green campus programme was undertaken during

one day camp in the college.(ii) Debate and Essay competitions were organised to commemorate

the Birth/Death anniversary of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekanand.
