IMPORTANT UPDATE
Microwave Magic
World AIDS Day is held on December 1 each
year and is an opportunity for people worldwide
to unite in the fight against HIV, show their sup-port for people living with HIV and to commemo-
rate people who have died. World AIDS Day was
the first ever global health day and the first one
was held in 1988.
A estimated 33.3 million people globally have
HIV. More than 25 million people between 1981
and 2007 have died from the virus, making it
one of the most destructive pandemics in histo-
ry.
Today, many scientific advances have been
made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect
people living with HIV and we understand so
much more about the condition. But despite
this, people do not know the facts about how to
protect themselves and others from HIV, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for
many people living with HIV. World AIDS Day is
important as it reminds the public and Govern-
ment that HIV has not gone away – there is still
a vital need to raise money, increase awareness,
fight prejudice and improve education.
Raising awareness is one of the most effective
and inexpensive methods to support this worthy
cause. For more information, be sure to visit: http://www.worldaidsday.org/

CULTURAL SERVICES AUXILIARY
“Way To Go Alpha Sigma Rho!”
By Kristie Vo, Cultural Services Auxiliary
ECV’s Cultural Services Auxiliary would like to give a special thank you to Alpha Sigma
Rho Sorority, Incorporated for speaking on the topic of Asian culture and the different ways to use chopsticks for our Taste of Asia event. Alpha Sigma Rho is an Asian-Interest Sorority that recognizes the necessity of promoting sisterhood and Asian awareness within
the campus of the University of Geor-gia and the community while in the process of pursuing academic excel-
lence as well as interpersonal growth, moral development, and strength in
unity. The ladies of Alpha Sigma Rho hope to act as a unified voice for the expanding Asian population and in-
still a deeper awareness of the beauty of these cultures within the campus community at large. Although Alpha
Sigma Rho is an Asian-Interest So-rority, they have many members from
all different cultures and welcome anyone that is interested. One of their main events that they host in
the Spring semester is their Cultural Fusion show. It is a performance
event that showcases campus-wide talent to raise money for Chi-na Care Foundation that funds
surgeries for orphaned children in China in need of life-changing
medical care.

LIVE N LEARN GREEN AUXILIARY
“Your Trash, My Treasure” By: Darrell Morris, Live N Learn Green Auxiliary
Set out to eliminate the idea of waste, the Ter-raCycle initiative was founded in 2001 by Tom
Szaky. Terracyle’s initiative, ―to eliminate the idea of waste‖, is put into action by diverting tons of waste into thousands of different prod-
ucts. TerraCyle, one of the fastest-growing green companies, creates a variety of products and materials such as: bags, toys, and school
supplies; all of which can be found at retail sites such as: Walmart and Whole foods Mar-
ket. In late 2010 and early 2011, University Housing’s own Building 1516 held its own Ter-racycling initiative. The community collected
over hundreds of ―terracyclable‖ items. The point person Ariel Chan, former Resident As-
sistant, spearheaded the entire Building 1516 Terracycle initiative. Chan quoted that, ―the Terracycle initiative was a rewarding experi-
ence because it really got people motivated and involved in the community, and got residents thinking about recycling and what they’re us-
ing!‖
Anyone can terracycle, it’s easy and fun! ―To start collecting please sign up and join a bri-gade. There are brigades for many different
waste streams ranging from candy wrappers to pens. While some brigades have a cost many are free, where we pay the shipping and for
every unit of waste you send to us and at least $0.02 to a charity or school of your choice.‖
Visit www.terracycle.net to find out how you can join a brigade and start terracycling!

STAFF MORALE AUXILIARY
“The Art of Inexpensive Gift Shopping!”
By: Elizabeth Evinger, Staff Morale Auxiliary
It’s that time of year again! With
winter holidays quickly approach-
ing, the rush of searching for the
perfect gift begins. Since the ma-
jority at UGA are on the typical
“college kid” budget, it is essential
to be price savvy. Here are a few
inexpensive gift ideas!
Baked Goods
It is just a matter of fact, everyone loves eating desserts during the holidays. While not very
original, baked good desserts are always a great gift to receive! Whether it’s a three level
cake or a dozen of chocolate chip cookies, the fact that time was taken to make this delicious
gift makes it that much faster!
Photo Memories
What is more fun than reminiscing on past during the holidays? Gift ideas that include pho-
tos will definitely be sentimental as well as fun! A photo scrap book or a photo collage board
is not only simple to make, but is also inexpensive. So get out those glue guns and creative
imagination and get to work!
Coupons
Remember the little coupon books that were often gifts for mothers on Mother’s Day back in
elementary school? They were for chores or work around the house and listed things like
“one free hug” and “will do the dishes for one week” etc. Why not bring them back, but in
college style! This time, just alter the coupons to be targeted towards a friend. For example,
“This coupon is redeemable for 1 free ride from down town” or even “This coupon is for 1
free dinner date”. Just be creative with them and they will certainly be a hit!
