The house was traditionally used by families and friends as a countryside retreat from the local ‘pueblo’ or town

of Pedreguer. They enjoyed the hot summer evenings and home-grown produce, such as fruits and local wine.

Finca Bella has a large plot or ‘Parcela’ of agricultural land, planted with a variety of trees, yielding yearly crops of nuts and fruits, such as almonds, walnuts, oranges, grapes, lemons, mandarins, grapefruit, figs, and nispero. The land also features traditionally grown vegetables

like ‘cardoon’, an essential ingredient in the local specialty stew ‘Putxero’.

Finca Bella está en una parcela grande de tierra agrícola en que está plantada una variedad de árboles que dan cosechas anuales de almendras y nueces y frutas tal como naranjas, uvas, limones, mandarinas, pomelos, higos y nísperos entre otras. También hay unas verduras típicas

como la ‘penca’, un ingrediente esencial del estofado típico de la región “Putxero”.

The outside of this historic house is completely surrounded by ancient grapevines, some as old as the house itself, which still produce amazing red and green grapes each summer as well as providing essential shade from the summer sun. From here you also have breathtaking views stretching across the orange groves in the valley to the stunning surrounding mountains and all the way down to the Mediterranean sea

El exterior de esta casa histórica está rodeado completamente de vides viejas, algunas tan viejas como la casa misma y que todavía producen unas uvas negras y verdes asombrosas cada verano y que también dan sombra importante del sol del verano. Pedreguer is a town in the region of Mar ina A l ta in the prov ince of A l icante, Spain. The town is s i tuated at the foot of the Muntanya Gran and c lose to the two larger coasta l towns of Dénia and Xàbia.

PEDREGUER & SURROUNDING AREAThe traditional village of Pedreguer is close to the beaches of Javea and Denia yet it is away from the maddening crowds, which makes it a perfect holiday location if you want to enjoy a taste of the real Spain. Pedreguer is a typical Spanish market town located at the foot of the Muntanya Gran and is at the gateway to the beautiful Orba Valley, famous for its orange groves.

A short trip inland to the Jalón Valley’s famous vineyards is also highly recommended. The area offers breath-taking scenery for a pleasant drive and in February this is the best place to see the almond blossom and green valleys covered in orange trees. This traditional village has cafe bars & restaurants where you can enjoy drinks or traditional tapas along the main street. Many of the façades of the houses are painted in vivid colours, which give the village a lively appearance. Around the main square you can see some of the most beautiful 19th Century facades as well as “els Porxes”: the market square is covered with Arabic tiles and constructed with cast-iron pillars and wooden beams. Pedregeur offers visitors the chance to take a walk through the town centre and discover beautiful ancient buildings such as the parish church of Santa Cruz (16th century).Outside the town centre there is the Sant Blai chapel, from which we can see the Segaria mountain range, the Montgo National Park and La Sella with its famous golf course, tennis, five star Marriott Hotel with luxury spa.

Also not to be missed is the beautiful Jardin de l’Albarda, a Mediterranean Garden set in La Sella where visitors can enjoy flowering plants, smells and colours at all times of the year, with over 700 species of native plants and rose gardens.

Els Molinets (The Grinders) can be seen on the approach to Pedreguer, these flour mills date back to 1850.

The surrounding area of Pedreguer makes it a perfect setting for cycling enthusiasts as well as horse riding, mountain or country walks or, for those who enjoy the faster pace, quad biking through the beautiful Orba valley.

The Cuevas de las Calaveras are located along the road between Pedreguer and Benidoleig and are a great place to visit. The caves got their rather sinister name form the many skulls that were found in them when they were discovered in 1768. There is an interesting historical display which outlines the formation of the cave system and details some of its subsequent uses. During WWII soldiers used the cave to store food and even to repair aircraft engines!

For those of you who like to shop, Pedreguer has something to offer everyone. Those who like a bargain can make their way to the car boot sale or Rastro market held every Sunday on the nearby industrial estate or the traditional vegetable market in the town square every Saturday. The village also specializes in the manufacture of bags, hats and leather goods. Try also visiting the neighbouring village of Gata de Gorgos which is famous for its wicker furniture shops or Ondara with its historic bull ring.

Within a 5 minute drive along the N332 you will find the modern shopping centre ‘La Marina’ which has a wide range of shops, a cinema and restaurants. Parking is free.

There always seems to be ‘Fiestas’ in Pedreguer. To name a few:

Every New Year the festival season begins with the Reyes Magos, the Cavalcade of the Three Kings. This festival starts on the 5th of January. It is the day that the Spanish traditionally celebrate their Christmas.

On the 17th of January the people of Pedreguer celebrate the Fiestas of San Antonio Abad, with a pilgrimage, blessing of animals and popular celebrations.

On the 3rd of February there is a religious festival - the Festival of Sant Blai, with sales of the traditional ‘porrat’, sport events and concerts.

Pedreguer’s festivities would not be complete without the annual Carnival which lasts from February 20-27th. It includes many Fancy Dress Parades and street dancing, with the burial and ‘Cremá’ (burning) of the Sardine.

During the month of July the village celebrates its main fiestas in honour of San Buenaventura with bull-running throughout the town, 10 days from 11-12th of July with spectacular costumes, music, live bands,parades and much, much more….

Las Cuevas de las Calaveras están en la carretera entre Pedreguer y Benidole ig y es un lugar que va le la pena vis i tar. Las cuevas sacaron su nombre s in iestro por las muchas calaveras que se hal laban a l l í cuando las cuevas se descubr ieron en 1768. Hay una exposic ión histór ica interesante que resume la formación de l s istema de cuevas y deta l la a lgunos de sus usos poster iores. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundia l los soldados usaban las cuevas para guardar comida y aún para reparar los motores de los aviones!Para los af ic ionados de la compra Pedreguer t iene a lgo para todos. Los que buscan gangas pueden vis i tar e l rastro que se organiza cada domingo en e l pol ígono cercano o e l mercadi l lo tradic ional de verduras en la p laza de l pueblo cada sábado. E l pueblo se especia l iza en la fabr icación de bolsos, sombreros y cosas de pie l. Vale la pena también vis i tar e l pueblo próx imo de Gata de Gorgos famoso por sus t iendas de muebles hechos de mimbre. O Ondara con su plaza de toros histór ica.
