Procedure

Step1:Cutopenthepouchtoremovetheswab.

Specimen can be collected with the swab in thefollowingmanner.

a.NasalSwabNasalswabiscollectedforanteriorturbinate.Insertdry swab into nostril and leave in place for a fewseconds.Slowlywithdrawitwitharotatingmotion.

b.NasopharyngealSwabInsert the dry swab in to nostril and back to thenasopharynx. Leave in place for a few seconds.Slowlywithdrawtheswabwitharotatingmotion.

c.ThroatSwabAskpatienttoopenhis/hermouth.Swabthebackofthethroatnearthetonsilsthoroughly.

Step4:Insert the swab into the tube containing viraltransportmedium.

Step5:Close the cap tightly, label the sample correctlywiththenameofthepatientandtimeanddateofcollection and transport the samples immediatelytothelaboratoryforprocessing.
