VuMaster is a manual 2D visionsystem with a massive difference.

Due to the newly patentedColourmap™ scale system, theVuMaster does not have a conventionalstage or encoders – just a floatingmeasuring camera that movesanywhere in the measuring range. The result is fast, accurate, ‘non contact’measurement over a much largermeasuring range – 400mm x 300mm to be exact!

Because the camera moves and the partstays still, there is often no need forexpensive and time consuming workholding devices.

VuMaster is either operated manually orinspection routines can be recorded andstored. When played back, these‘programs’ guide the operator througha pre-defined inspection procedurerecreating the same lighting conditionsand using ‘Video Edge Detection’ toautomatically ’capture’ feature data.

Finally, a report is generated in the formof a fully dimensioned drawing of themeasured part.

Baty’s PC based Fusion software ispowerful and easy to use. The graphicaluser interface minimises keyboard useand the need for multiple toolbars. Theresult is a software package thatenables the user to produce a fullydimensioned drawing of the measuredpart in minutes!

The highly successful Venture rangeincludes both manual and full CNCsystems that cover two standardmeasuring ranges:

The VI-2510 has a 250mm x 125mm x165mm X,Y,Z measuring capacity andthe VI-3030 has 300mm x 300mm x165mm.

The original design brief was to bringtogether high-end software functionalitywith a proven mechanical design at acompetitive price. With over 20 yearsexperience as a manufacturer of visionsystems and over 75 years in metrology,Baty have built up a sound knowledgeof vision application re q u i re m e n t s .W h e t h e r manual or CNC, we believethe newly revised Venture rangeincludes more functionality as standardthan any other vision system packageon the market.

Venture QC3This is a manually operated 3D visionsystem designed for the shop floor. Thefully integrated QC300 measuringsystem has a colour touch screen sothere is no need for a mouse orkeyboard to clutter the workstation.

Full geometric functionality is includedso features like circles, lines arcs andpoints can be measured using dedicatedtools. Data points are automaticallytaken along the edge of the featureusing video edge detection, then allmeasurements are automatically savedin the on-screen features list.

The programmable LED lighting is alsocontrolled using the touch screen.Surface, through the lens and profilelighting conditions can be adjusted toensure that the feature edge is perfectlyilluminated.

Tolerances are set for each dimension sothat the final inspection report clearlydisplays a pass or fail status.

For parts that need to be measuredregularly, measurement routines can be‘recorded’, saved and played back.During this process the operator isguided through the process by thedisplay. Magnification, VED toolpositioning, number of data pointsrequired and the exact lightingconditions are all reproduced by thesystem ensuring that each part in abatch is measured the same way foroptimum repeatability.

Touch ProbeThe popular Renishaw Touch probeoption often helps to solve complex 3Dmeasurement applications. Fusionallows the use of both touch probe andcamera measurements in the sameinspection so that features that are outof the camera’s view can be measuredwithout re-positioning the part.

As with all Ventures, a high precisionzoom lens is featured as standard. Venture CNC models take the powerof fusion software one stage furt h e rby completely automating theinspection process. Now advancedf e a t u res like scanning and best fittingcan be done quickly without takingup the time of skilled operators. CNC programming is a simple teachand repeat process. Just measure thepart once and a full CNC program iscreated automatically. The zoom lenscan also be controlled so thatmagnification changes are all recordedinto the program.

Large Measurement VolumeThe use of a touch probe is optimisedon a CNC system. Measurements fromdata points taken using the touch probecan be combined with those takenusing video edge detection for optimumspeed and reduced inspection times.

A probe changer rack can be installedso that probe modules fitted with avariety of pre-calibrated styli can also beused in the same inspection. When achange of stylus is required, the systemautomatically puts the current probemodule back in the rack and picks upthe next to continue the inspectionprocess.

When programming using the touchprobe, use only the minimum pointsrequired to define each element. Thensimply edit in the optimum number ofpoints for each element. The new probepath is then automatically created whenthe program is played, cutting downboth programming and inspection time.

Every system is supplied with a factory calibration certificate and can be supplied with our own glass reference standard for field of view pixel calibration and verification of measurements.

Graphical reports show the measuredpart as a dimensioned drawing with ‘intolerance’ dims shown in green and‘out of tolerance’ dims shown in red foran instant pass / fail classification.Geometric call outs can also be shownas well as datum features and trueposition.

SPC information can either be reportedor exported to excel. Distribution andcontrol charts are also produced.

Programmable Segmented LightLighting is critical to ensure that thecorrect edge is measured. Baty’s newprogrammable LED lighting head allowsthe user to define any segment patternto be switched on. This means thatoblique lighting conditions can beachieved to illuminate more difficult edges.

Segments can then be rotated andintensity varied to suit the radialposition of the edge. Once set, thelighting condition for each measuredfeature is now automaticallyprogrammed and will be reproduced bythe software each time a new part ismeasured. Through the lens (TTL)lighting is included for applications likeblind bore measurement. 64 whiteLED’s are used to ensure Venture’s highquality colour image is achieved.

Only now can this functionality becombined with traditional touch probetechnology to offer the ultimate in largeformat multi-sensing Vision systems –Venture Plus.

Advanced errormapping.

Once the X-Z and Y-Zalignment and calibrationis completed, everyVenture goes through anerror mapping processusing a calibrated mastergrid as a reference. Anyerrors in X, Y, Xdy, Ydx and X-Y squareness are compensated and verified. The grid is then re-positioned in the Z axisand the process repeatedto eliminate Xdz and Ydzerrors.

The Venture range of products aredesigned and built at Baty's Burgess Hillfactory in the south of England. Thelatest 3D modelling techniques wereused to optimise the new base / columndesign to ensure stability.

CAD

3D CAD models (STEP or IGES) can beimported and are shown in a floatingwindow. After alignment to the CADmodel, points are taken anywhere onthe part surface and displayed on theCAD model. The points appear colourcoded so as to indicate their distancefrom the nominal surface.

Rotary Axis

A rotary indexing device is used torotate the part and bring the requiredfeatures into the camera view.

Rotations are automatically recordedinto the inspection program.

The ShadoMaster is a horizontalcamera based video inspectionsystem that is particularly aimed atturned part measurement.

The cast iron stage has tooling slotsaligned with the optical path tofacilitate the mounting of work holdingfixtures such as vee-blocks and centres.

A selection of video edge scanningtools are used to scan the profile of theshaft and Baty’s Fusion software convert sthis scanned data into a dimensioneddrawing of the measured part.

Interchangeable fixed objective lensesare used to determine the field of viewand pixel size which can be sub-micronfor close tolerance requirements.

The VI-3015H can measure shafts up to300mm in length with a maximumdiameter of 150mm providing theoverall weight does not exceed 25KG

The PC based controller runs on aWindows 7 operating system and iscompletely integrated within the chassisso the installation is both quick andeasy with no trailing cables. The systemis also supplied with LED surfaceillumination which is ideal forilluminating the various facets of formcutting tools for example. The LEDlighting consists of 16 high intensitywhite LEDS which can be switched onin clusters to form a segment which canbe radially positioned by using themouse. This means that the light can bepositioned exactly where it needs to bein order for the edge detection tools tomeasure the edges that you areinterested in. Once programmed, thelighting conditions are reproduced bythe software for every inspection toensure optimum repeatability.
