GORDON SANDERSONAssociate Professor Gordon Sanderson originally qualifiedintheUKandhasbeenlecturingattheDepartment of Ophthalmology at the University of Otago since 1972. Although semi-retired, he continues to lecture both there and to optometrists in NZ and overseas.

SUNNY LISunnyLiisafifthyearmedicalstudentwithastronginterest in technology and how that could be utilised to help patients. Sunny joined oDocs Eye Care team and MobileEye when she learnt about the inspiring work these two groups are doing, committed to preventing blindness through accessible eye care.

JANE MOOREJane is currently the professional practice leader at the blind foundation. She has extensive quality and technicalexperienceinthenotforprofit,privateandeducation sector, with an emphasis on working with people with vision impairments.

MARY BUTLERMary Butler (PhD, NZROT) is an occupational therapist with over 25 years’ experience working with brain injury. She is currently employed as principal lecturer and master’s coordinator at the School of Occupational Therapy in Otago.

SANDRA BUDDSandra Budd is an experienced transformational chief executiveinthenotforprofitenvironment.Shehasextensive experience in health service change and service delivery in New Zealand and Australia; bringing experience from her clinical nursing and midwifery background.

ALAN JOHNSTONDr Alan Johnston is a former Reader and Associate Professor in the Department of Optometry at the University of Melbourne. He completed his undergraduate optometry in Melbourne then worked three years in private optometry practice before completing his Master of Science degree, then a PhD in visual ergonomics.

GAIL HUGHESGail (dipOT, LTCL) is an occupational therapist who has been working in low vision rehabilitation at the Burwood Low Vision Clinic in Christchurch for over 13 years. She works closely with the optometrist to enable clients to achieve their goals for daily living and reading in particular.

JOHN VEALEAn optometrist, John owns an optometry practice, Merivale Optical, in Christchurch and has been involved in the area of low vision since 1986. Before graduating, he went to UC Berkeley and was principal optometrist working with Professor Larry Stark who was investigating the central control of accommodation.

MIKE O’ROURKEDr Mike O’Rourke is an ophthalmologist based at Tauranga Eye Specialists. He is a retinal specialist with an interest in advanced macula degeneration vision function.

TANYA UNKOVICHTanya started her business career as a chartered accountant before launching in to self-employment, specialising in business consultancy and computer software support. She was one of the original MYOB consultants. After working with hundreds of small tomediumsizedbusinesses,Tanyaidentifiedtheimportance of psychology in business.

ELAINE SILKElaineisaUKqualified,Nelson-based,designerspecialising in optometry practice design. In addition to havingtrainedinfineart,sculptureandgraphicdesign,Elaineisalsoaqualifieddispensingoptician,makingherexpertinefficientpracticedesign.

NICOLA PEAPERNicola Peaper BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Optics. Cet 4 TAE graduatedfromtheUniversityofWalesandqualifiedas an optometrist in the UK in 1985. She practised in both private and corporate practice in the UK for 20 years including eight years in her own practice. In 2001/2 she was employed as ophthalmic advisor to Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Health Authority.

RENEE EDGARRenee is an optometrist at McClellan Grimmer Edgar Optometrist in Wellington. She has a keen interest in sports after participating in many different sports growing up. Renee has long been intrigued by the amountoftimeathletesspendgettingfitandstrongbutpresuming they are seeing well.

JENNIFER MARTINJennifer is a digital marketing consultant helping NZ businesses make the right choices, as they take their firststepsintotheworldofdigital.AfterworkinginClient Services with agencies, and discovering that many New Zealand businesses were struggling to get to grips with their digital strategy, Jennifer started Honey Digital to focus on helping companies get their strategy right, from the beginning.

STUART ALLANStuart has been a business consultant, specialising in professional service providers for over 25 years, the last 15 years within the optics industry.He was group general manager for Matthews Eyewear Eyecare for eight years and since 2010 has been the director of OpticsNZ who provide the industry with locum, recruitment, business consulting and practice brokering services. Based out of Nelson, OpticsNZ has clients nationwide.
