I. Introduction
The packaging requirements contained in this brochure have been developed to assist
Visteon’s Suppliers select packaging which satisfies production part quality, economic
objectives and the Visteon Asia and Pacific receiving plant's packaging needs in additional of the Visteon Packaging Guidelines – Generals Requirements and Intercontinental shipments.
Visteon in Asia Pacific has introduced an initiative to standardize the dimensions of inbound packaging.
Two categories of packaging have been selected:
Expendable Packaging
Durable Returnable Packaging.
The use of packaging with alternative dimensions will only be accepted on an exception basis and must be approved by the relevant customer facility Packaging Contact, prior to introduction.
A major part of Visteon’s ‘greening’ policy is the removal of unnecessary packaging and the conversion from expendable to durable containers, where it is economically and environmentally viable.
Visteon has implemented durable packaging for most products shipped to the customer base and experience has shown both cost savings and quality improvements.
All quotations must be based on the most appropriate container selected from the relevant category of packaging to meet the customer plant’s preferences.
Where the plant’s preference is for durable packaging, if the Supplier wishes to submit an alternative packaging proposal, it must be accompanied by a business case study, which includes consideration of both packaging and freight costs, justifying the economics.
Non local supplier shipping to Asia and Pacific Visteon plants must ship components in Standards Intercontinental Carton Sizes - expendable packaging.
Irrespective of the packaging type selected and approved, all unit loads must have a capability of being stacked up to 2200mm height, both in static storage and during transportation.
Remember, the responsibility for ensuring product quality from your factory to the point of use remains with you, the Supplier of the product.
All Visteon suppliers must refer to these Packaging requirements, Generals and specifics, when completing a Request for Quotation (RFQ) from Visteon Purchasing, or #1121 packaging data form for Visteon Packaging (PICS).
Visteon Packaging Guidelines – Shipping to Asia and Pacific 2/13
Obtain Packaging Approval:
Once Visteon Purchasing have completed the sourcing decision and have placed
an order for the parts with the Supplier, the Supplier must submit #1121 packaging data electronically via Visteon Packaging Information Collection System (PICS) at http://www.epgpics1121.com site.
The Supplier must be given packaging approval by the Visteon receiving plant via PICS before shipments may begin.
All Suppliers must comply with the Visteon #1121 packaging approval requirements. Compliance is a prerequisite. Any changes must be approved by the Visteon receiving plant in advance of any shipment being made.
Note: approved 1121s packaging form does not discharge the Supplier from responsibility to maintain part quality until the point of use.
Supplier must verify container and labeling Requirements with the receiving Visteon facility prior having the packaging material manufactured.
See Visteon Packaging Guidelines – Generals Requirements and Intercontinental shipments.
II. Shipping Between Asia and Pacific Location using
Returnable Containers Returnable packing material need to be used wherein the vendor is located near plant and wherein cost economics favors the usage, in accordance with the logistics agreement, agreed between Visteon Buyer, Visteon MP&L and the vendor.
Returnable containers need to be selected, taking into account, the requirement in-terms of volume indications catering to plant requirement.
The purchased parts supplier needs to be accompanied with Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS Sheet), which again need to be concurred in-line whit the regulatory requirements and plant-specific requirements.
Expended Polystyrene (EPS) in its natural or compound state is NOT to be used as packaging material without prior written approval; Plastics material must be labeled with
“The Society of the Plastic Industry” guidelines and/or in accordance with local or national government regulations.
Standard specification for returnable packaging should be documented.

II.2. Unique Container owned by supplier
Some parts may require unique or specialized packaging designs due to part characteristics, automated handling, ergonomics, etc. Special characteristics include part geometry, fragility, cleanliness, etc.
II.3. Interior Dunnage
Plastic bag should be used for the steel parts as below to avoid moisture.
II.4. Returnable Containers Identification
To reinforce management and avoid loss, Plant should mark each returnable container with VISTEON LOGO, and SERIAL NUMBER (4 DIGITS) in the obvious outer surface, certainly PLANT LOGO and NAME should be added if necessary.
