Heating circuit pumps regulated by differential pressureAccording to the [German] Energy Savings Order (EnEV), circulationpumps in central heating systems must be sized in accordance withcurrent technical rules. Circulation pumps in central heating systemswith rated output higher than 25 kW should be equipped and designedin such a way that the power consumption will be automaticallymatched to the operational (capacity) requirements in at least 3 stages,if no safety concerns relating to the boiler make demands to the con-trary.
In addition to the EnEV regulations, the use of regulated pumps is alsorecommended for smaller capacities.
Design informationThe use of differential pressure regulated heating circuit pumpsrequires heating circuits with variable flow rate, e.g. single line andtwin-line systems with thermostatic valves, underfloor heating withthermostatic or zone valves.

5.1 Positioning, installation
Installation conditions for open flue operation (appliance type B)The Vitoladens for open flue operation (type B23) must only be oper-ated in balanced flue operation in rooms where air contaminationthrough halogenated hydrocarbons is expected.Wall mounted boilers should not be installed in areas subject to verydusty conditions. The installation location must be kept free from frost and must be ade-quately ventilated.Provide a condensate drain and a blow-off line for the safety valve inthe installation room. The maximum ambient temperature of the system should not exceed35 ºC.If these instructions are not observed, any consequential loss directlyrelated to any of these causes is excluded from our warranty.
Combustion air aperturesThe cross-section should be at least 150 cm2. This cross-section maynot be split over more than 2 apertures (observe your local fire regu-lations).
Installation location
Permissible:■ Boiler installed on the same floor■ Living space with interconnected room ventilation■ Adjacent rooms with interconnected room ventilation (larders, base-
ment, utility rooms, etc.)■ Adjacent rooms with apertures to the outside (ventilation air/extract
air 150 cm2 or 2 × 75 cm2 each at the top and bottom of the samewall)
Not permissible:■ Stair wells and common hallways; exception: Detached and two-
family homes of low height (top edge of floor in the top storey <7 m above ground level)
■ Bathrooms and toilets without outside windows with duct ventilation
■ Rooms where explosive or flammable materials are stored■ Rooms that are ventilated mechanically or via individual duct sys-
tems to DIN 18017-1.
Observe all local fire regulations.
Vitoladens in wet areasThe Vitoladens is not approved for installation in wet areas (e.g. bathor shower rooms) (protection IP 20).
Connection on the flue gas side(for further details, see the technical guide Flue gas systems, Vitola-dens)The connecting piece to the chimney should be as short as possible. Therefore position the Vitoladens as closely to the chimney as possi-ble.No special protective measures and clearances towards combustibleobjects, e.g. furniture, cartons or similar, need to be taken/observed.Nowhere on the Vitoladens or its flue does the surface temperatureexceed 85 ºC.
ExtractorsWhen installing devices with extraction to the outside (cooker hoods, extractors, etc.), ensure that air extraction will not create negativepressure inside the installation room. A return flow of flue gases couldresult if the ventilation system and the Vitoladens are operated simul-taneously. In such cases, install an interlocking circuit. For this, the external extension H3 (accessory) can be used. Thisswitches the extractors OFF when the burner is started.
Installation conditions for balanced flue operation (appliance type C)The Vitoladens can be installed as equipment type C33x, C53x, C63x orC83x to TRGl 2008, for balanced flue operation independent of thesize and ventilation of the installation room. For example, this boilermay be installed in living spaces and accommodation, in non-ventila-ted ancillary rooms, inside cupboards and in recesses, without havingto maintain a minimum clearance towards combustible materials. We recommend installation in a separate room. The installation location must be safe from the risk of frost.Since the flue pipe connecting piece for balanced flue operation issurrounded by combustion air (coaxial pipe), no clearances towardscombustible parts need to be maintained (for further details, see thetechnical guide Flue gas systems; Vitoladens).Provide a condensate drain and a blow-off line for the safety valve inthe installation room.
Electrical interlocks for extractors (extractor hoods, etc.) are notrequired with balanced flue operation.
Vitoladens in wet areasThe Vitoladens is not approved for installation in wet areas (e.g. bathor shower rooms) (protection IP 20).
Installation in a garageWhen installing this boiler in garages, maintain a clearance betweenthe floor and the burner of at least 500 mm.Secure the boiler on site with a bracket or deflector against mechanicaldamage.
Clearance towards the fuel tankNowhere on this combustion device will a maximum surface temper-ature of 40 °C be exceeded.Consequently, a minimum clearance of 0.1 m between the combustionequipment and the fuel tank is sufficient.
Electrical connectionThe power supply must comply with the requirements of your localpower supply utility and current VDE [or local] regulations.Protect the power cable with a fuse with a max. rating of 16 A.We recommend installing an AC/DC-sensitive RCD (RCD class B) forDC (fault) currents that can occur with energy-efficient equipment.
Connect the power supply (230 V/50 Hz) via a permanent connec-tion.The supply cables and accessories are connected at the terminal stripsinside the boiler.

The aggressiveness of the condensate created whilst condensing thehot gases depends largely on the sulphur content of the fuel. The lesssulphur the fuel oil contains, the less sulphuric acid and sulphurousacid is produced during combustion. For this reason, operate the Vito-ladens with low sulphur fuel oil DIN 51603-1 EL or fuel oil DIN 51603-6EL A Bio 10.According to DIN 51603-1 and the third BImSchV [in Germany], fueloil is described as "low sulphur", when its sulphur content is no greaterthan 50 mg/kg (50 ppm). It is then described as "low sulphur fuel oilDIN 51603-1 EL".Using this low sulphur fuel oil (or fuel oil with an even lower sulphurcontent) according to Code of Practice ATV DVWK A 251 enablesoperation without a condensate neutralising system in the output rangeup to 200 kW.
Biofuel and additivesFuel oil DIN 51603-6 EL A Bio 10, i.e. low sulphur fuel oil EL with upto 10% bio-components (FAME) added is permissible.Fuel oil additives are recommended if they offer the following charac-teristics:■ Improvement of stability during fuel storage.■ Improvement of the thermal stability of the fuel.■ Reduction of odour development during filling.■ Combustion free from residues.Combustion improvers that leave residues are not permissible.
Oil supplyThe oil supply of the Vitoladens must be implemented as a single linesystem.
Always install an R ⅜ fuel oil filter with return feed line (filter with airvent valve connected between the return connection and the suctionline) in the oil supply system. Filter grade max. 40 µm, recommenda-tion: Filter grade 5 µm. We recommend the use of a large filter bowlwith large filter element. When installing a single line filter, we recom-mend you use an automatic fuel oil vent valve that should be installedbetween the fuel oil filter and the burner (available as accessory).Size the oil line in accordance with the following table, observing theoil line requirements to DIN 4755-2 [or local regulations].The height differential H (see fig.) between the oil burner pump andthe foot valve in the tank set below the oil burner pump must not exceed4 m. Greater height differentials lead to noisy operation and pumpdamage. An oil feed pump with intermediate tank is required in the immediatevicinity of the Vitoladens, if the suction head or maximum pipe run fortanks installed lower than the burner is greater than that shown in thefollowing table. Oil must be able to be supplied from the intermediatetank using the integral oil burner pump. The oil supply pump must be regulated independently of the Vitola-dens, i.e. no signal from the Vitoladens must be used for this pur-pose.The oil line should have a vacuum pressure not exceeding 0.35 bar.Where a tank is installed higher (level foot valve or floating inlet higherthan the oil pump), install no mechanical anti-lift valves. Instead, usean electric solenoid valve with control via the "external fuel valve con-necting line" (accessories).
Vitoladens 300-WInstall the fuel oil filter at the height of the lower edge of the boiler andas near as possible to the boiler, to ensure the oil hoses are longenough when removing the burner. The fuel oil filter may be fitted either on the r.h. or l.h. side of the boilerto suit local conditions.

Safety valveThe safety valve must be installed. We recommend you install the safety valve higher than the top edgeof the cylinder. This protects the valve against contamination, scalingand high temperatures. The DHW cylinder does not then need to bedrained when working on the safety valve.
Drinking water filterAccording to EN 806, a drinking water filter should be installed in sys-tems with metal pipework. Viessmann and the EN 806 also recom-mend the installation of a drinking water filter when using plastic pipes,to prevent contaminants entering the DHW system.

DHW circulationDHW circulation pipes increase DHW convenience and reduce waterconsumption. These advantages result from the immediate availability of hot waterat the tap/draw-off point. However, poor insulation of the DHW circulation line can lead to sub-stantial heat losses. From a line length of 7 m upwards, we recommend the installation ofDHW circulation with appropriate thermal insulation in accordance withthe Energy Savings Ordinance [Germany].In accordance with the Energy Savings Ordinance [Germany], theDHW circulation line should include a circulation pump, check valveand time switch for shutting down circulation during the night. With the Vitoladens 333-F, only use the DHW circulation pump con-nection set available as an accessory for fitting in the boiler. For this, the circulation pump is controlled by the boiler control unit.

5.3 Condensate connectionRoute the condensate drain with a constant slope.Route the condensate from the flue system (if equipped with a drain)together with the boiler condensate directly via a neutralising systemor an active charcoal filter (accessories) to the public sewer (observecurrent regulations).
NoteA pipe vent valve must be installed between the siphon and the neu-tralising system.
Condensate drain and neutralisationDrain condensate created during heating operation in the condensingboiler and flue pipe via a suitable neutralising system (available as anaccessory). The pH value lies between 2 and 3.The Code of Practice ATV DVWK A 251 on "Condensate from con-densing boilers", that is generally based on the local waste water reg-ulations [in Germany], determines conditions for draining condensatefrom condensing boilers into the public sewer system.ATV DVWK A 251 specifies no requirements for a neutralising systemfor operation with low sulphur fuel oil (sulphur content ≤ 50 mg/kg).Use an active charcoal filter (accessory) when not using any neutral-ising system. The condensate drain to the sewer connection must be able to beinspected. It must be installed with a slope and stench trap.Condensate drains must only be made from corrosion-resistant mate-rials (e.g. reinforced hoses). Never use any galvanised materials orthose containing copper for pipes, connectors, etc.A siphon is installed in the condensate drain to prevent flue gasesescaping.Local waste water regulations and/or specific technical circumstancesmay specify designs that vary from those described in the aboveCodes of Practice. Also ensure that your domestic drainage system is made from mate-rials that are resistant to acidic condensate.
According to the Code of Practice ATV DVWK A 251, these materialsinclude:■ Clay pipes■ Hard PVC pipes■ PVC pipes■ PE HD pipes■ PP pipes■ ABS/ASA pipes■ Stainless steel pipes■ Borosilicate pipes
It is advisable to contact your local authority responsible for wastewater management prior to installation, to find out about local regula-tions.

The Vitoladens can be supplied (if required) with a separate neutral-ising system (accessory).Any condensate is piped to and processed in the neutralising sys-tem.The condensate drain to the sewer connection must be able to beinspected. It must be installed with a slope and stench trap on thesewer side, and must provide a suitable facility for extracting sam-ples.Install a condensate lifting pump if the Vitoladens has been installedbelow the waste water anti-flooding level.Since the consumption of neutralisation granulate depends on theoperating mode of the system, determine the required top-up amountduring the first year of operation by regular checks. It is feasible thatone fill may last longer than 12 months. For the specification of the neutralising system and active charcoalfilter (accessories), see page 30.

5.4 Hydraulic connection
General
System designViessmann condensing boilers can generally be installed in any pum-ped hot water heating system (sealed system). No special standardsapply. The circulation pump is an integral part of the appliance.Minimum system pressure 0.8 bar.The heating water temperature is limited to 74 ºC.To minimise distribution losses, we recommend that you size the heatdistribution system to a max. flow temperature of 70 ºC.
Chemical anti-corrosion agentsCorrosion is generally avoided in correctly installed and operatedsealed heating systems.Never use chemical anti-corrosion agents. Some manufacturers of plastic pipes recommend the use of chemicaladditives. In such cases, only use anti-corrosion agents offered by theheating trade that have been approved for boilers with DHW heatingvia single-walled heat exchangers (instantaneous water heater orDHW cylinder). In this, observe VDI guideline 2035 [or local regulations].
Heating circuitsFor heating systems with plastic pipes, we recommend the use ofimpermeable pipes to prevent the infusion of oxygen through the pipewalls.Provide system separation in heating systems with plastic pipes to DIN4726 that are permeable to oxygen. We supply a separate heatexchanger for this.Underfloor heating systems and heating circuits with very large watercontent should be connected, even to a condensing boiler, via a three-way mixer; see technical guide "Control of underfloor heating sys-tems" or the relevant sample applications.Install a temperature limiter into the flow of the underfloor heating cir-cuit to limit the maximum temperature. Observe the requirements ofDIN 18560-2 [or local regulations].
Plastic pipework for radiatorsWe also recommend the installation of a temperature limiter to restrictthe maximum temperature of plastic pipes in heating circuits with radi-ators.
Safety valveA safety valve in accordance with TRD 721 is integrated into the Vito-ladens (opening pressure 3 bar).Route the blow-off line in accordance with EN 12828 into a drain outlet(drain outlet kit available as an accessory). The drain outlet incorpo-rates a siphon as a stench trap.
Low water indicatorAccording to EN 12828, special low water level protection can beomitted for boilers up to 300 kW (except in attic heating centres), aslong as heating can be reliably prevented when the water level is toolow. The Viessmann Vitoladens are equipped with a low water indicator(boil-dry protection). Tests have verified that the burner will be auto-matically switched OFF in the event of water shortage due to a leak inthe heating system and simultaneous burner operation, before theboiler or flue systems reach unacceptably high temperatures.
Water quality/frost protectionRegarding the quality and volume of heating water, incl. fill and top-upwater, observe VDI Directive 2035.Water softening measures must be taken if, for example, the specificsystem volume exceeds 20 litre/kW output (e.g. installation of a heat-ing water buffer cylinder). For recommendations, see the technical guide "Standard values forwater quality".You may add suitable antifreeze to the heating water in systems thatare not constantly heated and where consequently there is a risk offrost. For further details, see the VdTÜV datasheet 1466.Only use fill water of potable quality. Soften fill water harder than3.0 mol/m3.

Expansion vesselsIn accordance with EN 12828, water heating systems must be equip-ped with a diaphragm expansion vessel (DEV).An expansion vessel (12 litre capacity) is integrated into the Vitola-dens 333-F.A mounting frame with expansion vessel (18 litre capacity) and valvesis available as an accessory for the Vitoladens 300-W.Its design matches that of the boiler and it is fitted behind the Vitola-dens 300-W. The size of the expansion vessel is subject to the heating systemspecification and should be checked in each case (see page 55).If the expansion vessel available as an accessory is insufficient, installa suitably sized expansion vessel on site.If the Vitoladens 300-W is installed with a self-supporting mountingframe, the on-site expansion vessel may also be fitted to that mountingframe.
Mounting frame with expansion vessel
Testing the expansion vessel inside the mounting frame
Expansion vessel in the mounting frame (accessories)Pre-charge pressure 0.75 barBlow-off pressure 2.5 barCapacity 18 litres
When making the hydraulic connections, check that the size of theexpansion vessel matches the system conditions. The following steps will enable you to make a rough check.
VDEV = f ((VA + VK) Af + 2.4)VDEV = Volume of the expansion vesself = Expansion factor (= 2 for expansion vessel)VA = System volumeVK = Boiler water volumeAf = Heating water expansion factor
Example:System:■ Vitoladens 333-F■ Boiler water volume 12 litres
■ Rated output 23.5 kW■ Panel radiators■ System volume approx. 120 litres■ Heating system 70/50 ºCCalculation:Heating system 70/50 ºC: average water temperature approx. 60 ºC Af = 0.0171VDEV = 2 · ((120 + 12)· 0.0171 + 2.4)VDEV = 9.3 litresResult: The integral expansion vessel (12 litre capacity) is sufficientlylarge for this system.
NoteIf the expansion vessel is insufficient, connect an adequately sizedexpansion vessel to the heating flow of the Vitoladens.

Low loss header
Application
Design rules for system hydraulics:■ When balancing the low loss header, adjust the flow rate on the
boiler side to approx. 10 to 30 % lower than the flow rate on thesystem side (reducing the return temperature).
■ The low loss header should be sized for the max. volume flow thatmay occur in the overall system.
The low loss header separates the heat source (boiler circuit) from thedownstream heating circuits.Install a low loss header if the max. flow rate in that case exceeds1390 l/h. For installation diagrams, see the corresponding sample application.Subject to the individual system type, the boiler circuit and the heatingcircuit are sized independently of each other.

Boiler circuitThe circulation pump in the Vitoladens must be able to supply therequired water volume against the (mostly low) pressure drop of theboiler circuit; the pressure drop of the low loss header is negligible.Subject to the water volume circulating in the generator circuit, therespective residual head may be determined for the sizing of the inter-nal pipe diameters using the pump diagram; alternatively the variablespeed pump can be adjusted accordingly.
Heating circuitThe central heating pumps to be installed on site must be able todeliver the water volume in the heating circuits against their pressuredrop; size the pumps accordingly.

The requirements of DIN EN 12831 for the heating load calculation aremet. To reduce the heat-up load, the reduced room temperature willbe raised in case of low outside temperatures. The flow temperaturewill be raised for a limited time to reduce the heat-up time after a set-back period.According to the Energy Savings Order [Germany], the temperature ineach room must be individually controlled, e.g. through thermostaticradiator valves.
Control characteristicsPI characteristics with modulating output.

heating and the DHW circulation pump are factory-set■ Switching times are individually programmable, i.e. up to four switch-
ing periods per dayShortest switching interval: 10 minutesPower backup: 14 days
Setting the operating programsThe heating system frost protection (see frost protection function)applies to all heating programs. The following heating programs can be selected:■ Heating and DHW■ Only DHW■ Standby modeExternal heating program changeover in conjunction with EA1 exten-sion.
Frost protection function■ The frost protection function will be started when the outside tem-
perature drops below approx. +1 °C.With frost protection, the heating circuit pump is switched ON andthe boiler water is maintained at a lower temperature of approx.20 °C.The DHW cylinder will be heated to approx. 20°C.
■ The frost protection function will be stopped when the outside tem-perature rises above approx. +3 °C.
Summer modeHeating program "w"The burner starts only when the DHW cylinder needs to be heated upagain.
Adjusting the heating curves (slope and level)The Vitotronic 200 controls the boiler water temperature (= flow tem-perature of the heating circuit without mixer) and the flow temperatureof the heating circuits with mixer (in conjunction with the extension kitfor one heating circuit with mixer) in weather-compensated mode. Theboiler water temperature is automatically boosted by between 0 and40 K higher than the currently required set flow temperature (deliveredcondition 8 K).The flow temperature required to reach a specific room temperaturedepends on the heating system and the thermal insulation of the build-ing to be heated.Adjusting the heating curves matches the boiler water temperature andthe flow temperature to these operating conditions.Heating curves:The upper boiler water temperature is limited by the temperature limiterand the temperature set at the electronic maximum thermostat. The flow temperature cannot exceed the boiler water temperature.
