Melita upgrades 10,000 internet customers free of charge

Telecoms provider Melita has rolled out a free internet upgrade to around 10,000 clients subscribed to its Fibre Power packages over the past few weeks, the company said.

Customers on Fibre Power 25 Megabits or Fibre Power 50 Megabits received upgrades of up to 10 Megabits with no new commitments, conditions or additional charges. The upgrades will last for rest of customers’ existing contracts. Terms and conditions will remain unchanged for the contract period.

This free upgrade will enhance internet speeds from 25 to 30 Megabits per second and from 50 to 60 Megabits per second.

“Up until about a year ago, the most common internet connection in Malta reached speeds of up to 5 Megabits per second,” Melita chief operating officer Ludolf Rasterhoff said. “Today, our minimum entry level bundled speed is 30 Megabits per second. Our customers will continue to enjoy an internet experience far better than most other European citizens.”

Information is available at www.melita.com.

Air Malta gearing up for race with Ferrari F12

Preparations are well underway for next Sunday’s showdown race between an Air Malta Airbus A320 and a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

The event is being organised as part of the Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina activity and will be held at Malta International Airport at around 1230pm.

The aim of this event is to raise funds for L-Istrina, the annual Christmas charity event held under the patronage of President George Abela.

Air Malta said this morning that the scene has been set for an awesome contest of speed, power, technology and entertainment.

Notwithstanding the possible top speed of over 340 km/h of the Ferrari compared to the lift-off speed of just over 225km/h of the Airbus, the 21,500 horse power generated by the CFM-56 jet engines at lift-off point will give a good challenge to the 730 horse power generated by the F12 engine.

With no speed limits on the 2,600m runway 05/23, the activity is expected to be breath taking.

This year’s Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina is the seventh and the fourth to be held at MIA.

It is the biggest annual motoring event in Malta organised by The Malta Community Chest Fund in collaboration with Tonio Darmanin and a number of volunteers.

Paqpaqli għall-iStrina will be held between 9am and 3.30pm.

During the event 2008 World Champion and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will perform for the first time in Malta in the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-26 car

Motoring enthusiasts will also be able to view a wide range of vehicles on display which range from vintage, to classics, modern and brand new cars.

Hot-desking and change management in Vodafone move to

MIA’s Skyparks

Vodafone’s new offices on two floors are dotted with colourful meeting areas, some of which have been designed

by the employees themselves.

Just days away from its move to Malta International Airport’s Sky Parks Business Centre, Vodafone is working for its teams to experience the smoothest move possible.

Employees must place their belongings in just one box

However, the work involved in a head-office-move entails going back to the very first day the company decided on the criteria that the new site had to fulfil. For Vodafone, choosing the right site was the first step in ensuring that both staff and visiting customers have a positive experience when stepping into the new offices.

With Vodafone’s new concept of hot-desking and the ultimate objective of considering all team members one team, a large open-plan office – rather than many small offices – was what the mobile operator was looking for. Not many buildings ticked all the right boxes – the building had to have the right infrastructure, appropriate transport facilities, proper parking, suitable accessibility and abundant natural lighting. The premises also had to be environment friendly – Skyparks was BREEAM-certified.

“Moving our head office was not simply a change in address but a complete overhaul of the way we work, our culture and recruitment mentality,” Vodafone Malta’s property manager Antoinette Camilleri explained. “This is an opportunity to transform the way we work, thanks to the open-plan, hot-desking, paperless culture we will be introducing. We wanted to create a positive working environment that will bring people together, instil trust and the right atmosphere that promotes collaboration under one common brand. Our idea was to have a fluid concept, an open-plan office with no boundaries between different teams.”

Page 9: Vodafone Online Monitor - 141212

CLIENT: VODAFONE DIRECT MEDIUM: TIMESOFMALTA.COM DATE: 6 DECEMBER 2012

Vodafone Malta will strike a group first of sorts with the introduction of hot-desking at its new office – it will be the company with the most employees not having their own desk across the network.

Ms Camilleri added that drastic changes require some time but the heads of department were supportive of the culture change. “Much thought went into the design stage, in the desk layout, where we placed our relaxation areas, and our multi-purpose spaces which can be used for work, meetings or leisure purposes. We made sure never to obstruct our views of the office, terrace or the countryside that surrounds us, so no high cabinets were allowed anywhere in the office.”

The offices on two floors are dotted with colourful meeting areas, some of which have been designed by the employees themselves and others which can be easily personalised on the spot by the team members using them.

A cafeteria has been strategically placed in an area which provides employees with the ideal recreation spot which makes them feel as though they are outside even though they will remain inside.

Customers and stakeholders were also kept in mind with different designs in place for the meeting rooms, including areas for lounge and business meetings and other areas for casual meetings. All meeting rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia facilities, A+ equipment and light sensors to reduce utility usage to ensure efficiency and sustainability.

As a telecommunications company, introducing the latest technology for Vodafone was of utmost importance. The new offices are a completely wireless environment with no desk phones and Wi-Fi services are available throughout the floors, including the terrace.

All furniture was chose carefully – custom-made furniture was designed for some areas, keeping in mind factors like space, comfort, durability, and maintenance. Vodafone team members were involved in all the phases leading to the move. Design ideas and suggestions were taken on board and progress was communicated through the company’s internal channels to ensure everyone was excited about the project.

The company is currently helping employees with the challenge to put all their belongings in just one box.

“Moving to a paperless office is a challenge, but we are working against a clear plan to create the least disturbance possible while helping people to leave our old head offices one day and work seamlessly in our new head office the next,” Ms Camilleri explained.

“Moving a head office can be a headache but it can also be a wonderful experience. With all its challenges and efforts, so far this has been a satisfying experience.”

Updated: Hamilton entertains thousands in Malta

2008 F1 champion Lewis Hamilton this morning entertained the thousands of people who gathered at Malta International Airport with a demonstration of a McLaren Mercedes F1 car racing down a taxiway.

The people were impressed by the high speed, noise and braking capabilities of the car.

As he was driving, Hamilton occasionally waved at crowd and he then joined Vodafone officials as they handed a donation to President George Abela for the Community Chest Fund.

Hamilton then took President Abela on a hot lap in a Mercedes road car.

Several vintage cars did not turn up for the event, being organised by Paqpalli Ghall-Istrina, because of the adverse weather.

Making light of the “Raise the Game” theme of the day of sponsor Vodafone, President Abela joked on stage before Hamilton’s press conference: “Mhux ‘Raise the Game’, raise the funds,” in reference to the Community Chest Fund, which will benefit from today’s event.

Hamilton climbed into the seat of the McLaren MP4-26 F1 again for another performance on the taxiway in the afternoon to the delight of the cold but cheerful crowd.

Earlier, Hamilton had given an interview to The Times, which will be published in tomorrow’s newspaper.

British High Commissioner, Robert Luke, who hails from the same county as Hamilton, told timesofmalta.com: “We have seen today is that he is a very down-to-earth person who has connected with the Maltese people and it was great that he could come here to Malta.”

Other highlights of the day were a race on the runway between an Air Malta plane and a Ferrari Berlinetta, as well as an acrobatic show from stunt-bike rider Zoltan.

‘I felt that I could have been fighting for championship’

2008 F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton took a break from wowing the crowd at yesterday’s Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina to discuss his career with Patrick Cooke

Can you give us your personal assessment of the season that has just finished? Do you feel that you were racing at your best?

I do feel that I was at my best this year, although I feel like I can always be better. It’s been an up and down year. We started off not so bad and had lots of problems half way, and particularly at the end. But it was a year of growth and real challenges. I loved it, every moment, even the races that we were not winning, but particularly the races that we did win.

There were six world champions on the grid this year – out of all the championships you have been involved in, was this the hardest one to win?

Not particularly. It was hard for me to win because I did not have as much fortune as some of the other people during the season, when perhaps the car stopped when I was about to gain maximum points, but thatis motor-racing. Otherwise it was pretty cool to be around such great drivers because when you do win it makes it even more satisfying.

Did you feel under extra pressure to prove yourself when Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso pulled away at the top of the championship race? If so, did that make your win in the US extra special?

The America win was very satisfying because I felt like, with the way that I was driving, I could have been up there fighting with them for the championship. The fact that I wasn’t pushed me even more to want to be ahead of them and prove to the world that I was at the forefront of that championship and was worthy of being in contention. So it was a great time for me to just be at the front and overtake the guy who actually won the championship (Vettel), in a car that has just dominated for the last three of four years.

After six seasons in Formula 1, are you coming to a stage in your career where you feel a real sense of urgency to win more championships?

Page 13: Vodafone Online Monitor - 141212

CLIENT: VODAFONE DIRECT MEDIUM: TIMESOFMALTA.COM DATE: 10 DECEMBER 2012

Not particularly. If you look at some of the greats they took a long time before they won many world championships so I just have to bide my time. Hopefully, fingers crossed, that is what I work for every year so if it comes, it comes, but you just never know when it is going to happen.

You were involved in a dramatic crash in Belgium this year. Do you ever worry about the risks and dangers in Formula 1?

I don’t. I never go into anything worrying about the dangers, whether I’m on my jet-ski, on my motorbike, in my car, or whatever it is. I don’t have that fear that other people usually have which enables me to do what I do with a free mind.

I saw a photo of your girlfriend looking quite horrified after that particular crash. Is the danger element harder for your loved ones than it is for you?

Definitely. As it would be for me the other way around. When I watch my brother and see him get hurt or have a crash, it’s hard. So definitely it is harder for them.

You mentioned via e-mail that Jenson Button was your biggest rival in this past season because he was your team-mate. Will that rivalry persist next season when he is no longer your team-mate?

Well he is a competitor. But the rivalry I have with my new team-mate will be the next big thing. You are always compared to your team-mate. If your team-mate is any good then it is difficult to be more than a few tenths of a second faster with the same equipment. But it is those few tenths of a second hat define whether or not you’re a top driver.

Is it always a friendly rivalry with team-mates or can it boil over into something more serious?

It could do. If you look in the past there have been drivers who have had bust-ups, particularly in the States where they do that all the time. But in Formula 1 we don’t really have that; we keep calm and do our talking on the track.

What will you miss most about driving for McLaren?

I will miss my friends and colleagues and I will miss just sitting in ‘my’ car. This is the car I first got into and the one I have been involved in over the years, so it will be strange not being in that car. But stepping into another one will be a nice experience. For better or worse, it is a part of growing.

Whether or not I am making a step forwards or backwards I am going to do it because it is a new part of my life and hopefully I will be better for it.

Lewis Hamilton delights the crowd

It was a cold a blustery morning at Paqpalli Ghall-Istrina, but that did not dampened the spirits of thousands of

racing fans who gave British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton a hero’s welcome as he arrived in a Mercedes sports car with President George Abela and later drove a McLaren formula one car on the taxiway..

Hamilton was on stage just after 10.30am near the Lufthansa hangar to present the the President a cheque for €30,000 from Vodafone for the Community Chest Fund.

Blowing his hands and stamping his feet against the cold, but wearing sunglasses nonetheless, Mr Hamilton asked the excited crowd kif int? (how are you?) before saying he was delighted to be in Malta for the first time.

Hamilton, who will be leaving the McLaren team he has been connected to since the age of 13, will be driving for Mercedes next year.

“Everyone has to have a change,” he said, when asked by the local media about his decision to leave.

“It is about growing, doing something different, learning to communicate with new people.”

“I know what I am doing,” he insisted.

Quizzed further during his press conference, Mr Hamilton acknowledged that it will be “very tough” to win the championship next year, but he expects to make a big impact when rule changes which should favour Mercedes come into effect in 2014.

“We all have to takes risks in life,” he said.

“The target next year has to be podium finishes.”

Echoing the Vodafone theme of the day, he said tries to raise his game all the time.

Hamilton then drove the McLaren MP4-26 F1 car twice on an airport taxiway, impressing the crowd with the car's speed, braking power and noise.

He also took the winner of The Sunday Times Lewis Hamilton competition on a “hot lap” in a Mercedes sports car and will be giving The Times an exclusive interview.

Rain and cold can’t put off the thousands of motor-racing

fans

On the grid: An Air Malta Airbus A320 and a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta raced past the finish line neck and neck at Malta International Airport yesterday in a race billed as a contest of speed, power and technology. The awe inspiring event was part of the fund-raising Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina. The plane then took off and circled, coming in low as the fastest ever Ferrari production car, driven by Paqpaqli committee member Chris Sultana, completed another run at the plane’s speed of 250km an hour. Chilly temperatures and hail showers did not deter thousands of motor-racing fans from flocking to Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina yesterday for a glimpse of 2008 Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Known as a specialist wet-weather driver, even Mr Hamilton, 27, remarked on the grim December conditions that stopped some vintage cars from attending.

But the many fans that did turn up for the Community Chest fundraising event were treated to two mesmerising performances by Mr Hamilton in a McLaren MP4-26 F1 car.

The British racing driver put pedal to the metal on Taxiway Lima at the airport yesterday morning and afternoon, performing doughnuts at high speed that sent waves of spray into the air.

He also took President George Abela and The Sunday Times competition winner Pierre Farrugia on separate “hot laps” in a Mercedes B Class car.

Page 17: Vodafone Online Monitor - 141212

Mr Hamilton had arrived on stage with President Abela at around 10.45am, asking a near-hysterical crowd “Kif int?” (How are you?)

He was present on stage as Vodafone handed over a cheque for €30,000 to the Community Chest Fund, which prompted the President to make light of the Vodafone “Raise your Game” slogan and quip: “Mhux ‘Raise your Game’, raise the funds!”

Mr Hamilton has been associated with McLaren since the age of 13 and has raced for the team in F1 since 2007, but he is leaving to race for Mercedes next year.

“Everyone has to have a change,” he said, when asked by the local media about his decision.

“It is about growing, doing something different, and learning to communicate with new people.”

“I know what I am doing,” he insisted.

Quizzed further during his press conference, Mr Hamilton acknowledged that it will be “very tough” to win the championship next year, but he expects to make a big impact when rule changes that should favour Mercedes come into effect in 2014.

“We all have to takes risks in life,” he said.

“The target next year has to be podium finishes.”

In between performances, racing fans clamoured outside the Lufthansa hangar to get up-close to the F1 car as it was wheeled by McLaren engineers to the Lufthansa Technik hangar and back.

Mr Hamilton was here for a few hours on his first visit to the island. He was brought over by Vodafone in collaboration with Mercedes, The Times and The Sunday Times.

British High Commissioner Robert Luke, who hails from Hertfordshire, the same county as Mr Hamilton, told The Times: “We have seen today that he is a very down-to-earth person who has connected with the Maltese people and it was great that he could come here to Malta.”

Other highlights of the event were a race on the runway between an Air Malta plane and a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, as well as acrobatic shows from Hungarian stunt-rider Zoltan.

In the driving seat of the Ferrari was Chris Sultana, a member of the core team of Paqpaqli għall-Istrina, who flew past a mesmerised audience as the Airbus flew overhead.

“My wheels spun at the start line on our first run because of the rain and I took longer than expected to pass the plane,” said Mr Sultana afterwards.

The fastest ever Ferrari production car easily reached the plane’s airborne velocity of 250km per hour on the next run though, as the Airbus took off, circled around and made a low approach at 200 feet, creating a spectacle of power.

'Lewis' management required a medical team including truama doctors from Mater Dei and

help from CPD incase anything happened - it was truly an honour and once more great

professionalism shown from the rescue teams. Being literally meters away in an ambulance and

hearing the sheer power from Lewis Hamilton's car was awesome - what a great day for Malta!'

The day saw the new Ferrari F12 race against the newly repainted Airbus of Air Malta.

Lewis joins the Mercedes team next season.

Paqpali preparations amidst rain showers

The incessant rain this afternoon did not hinder the preperations for this year’s edition of

Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina and the Lufthansa Hangar at Hal-Farrug is currently a hive of activity as

workers and volunteers hurry about their business for the final.

Whilst workers from the Vodafone McLaren team put together the final parts of the Vodafone

on the rain soaked apron the red Ferrari F12 Berlinetta covered in rain drops awaits the

sparkling white Corvette ZR-1 which given the weather was kept inside the showroom till the

very last minute.

As a number of Mercedes enthusiasts arrive on the apron and discuss the final positioning of

their vehicles for tomorrow, two bike riders on a Suzuki Hayabusa and a BMW, both clad in

rainproof attire, check out the place that tomorrow will be used by bikers.

A beaming Tonio Darmanin looks on as he hurries from one end of the Lufthansa Hangar to

the other too busy to comment, but the glow in his eyes as it all comes together says it all.

Eċċezzjonali! 16:39 | 09.12.2012

L-attività Paqpaqli għall-Istrina kienet waħda eċċezzjonali. M'hemmx dubju li l-attrazzjoni ewlenija kien is-sewwieq tal-Formula 1 u eks-ċampjin tad-dinja fl-2008, Lewis Hamilton li żar pajjiżna għall-ewwel darba. Hawn saq il-karozza McLaren li ħa sehem biha f’diversi tlielaq. Id-dilettanti tal-karozzi setgħu jisimgħu l-ħsejjes qawwijin u jaraw il-veloċità kbira li kapaċi ttella’ karozza tal-Formula 1. Wara l-ġirja bil-McLaren, Hamilton saq flimkien mal-President ta’ Malta, George Abela f’karozza Mercedes.

Iżda, kien hemm attrazzjonijiet oħra, fosthom Zoltan Angyal, li hu wieħed mill-aqwa ‘stunt men’ tad-dinja fuq il-muturi. Ma naqsitx ukoll it-tellieqa bejn il-Ferrari F12 Berlinetta u ajruplan tal-linja tal-ajru Maltija, Air Malta. It-tellieqa ntrebħet mill-Ferrari li fi tliet sekondi ttella’ veloċità ta’ 60 mil fis-siegħa. Din il-Ferrari hi meqjusa bħala l-aktar Ferrari b’saħħitha u l-aktar waħda li tiġri fost il-Ferraris ta’ kull żmien.

Iżda l-attrazzjonijiet ma waqfux hemm, hekk kif fl-edizzjoni ta’ din is-sena kienet hemm numru rekord ta’ 1,300 vettura li kienu esebiti matul il-ġurnata. Fi ftit kliem kienet attivita eċċezzjonali, bħalma huma eċċezzjonali dawn ir-ritratti li ġibed il-fotografu tagħna Ray Attard.

Vodafone Malta Foundation sponsors a collection of Christmas stories in aid of children in need “Meta l-Ponsjetta tibda tħammar” is the title of a collection of Christmas stories written by Loreto J.Dalli sponsored by Vodafone Malta Foundation.

All the revenue from this new publication, which was launched in November, will go towards the

children at Dar Piccola Casa di San Giuseppe in Valletta and to secondary school students in needy

families. Throughout the years Loreto J. Dalli wrote a number of novels with Christmas as the main

theme.

These were then published in a leading newspaper during the Christmas season. “I have always dreamt

of one day publishing these novels, and this year, thanks to Vodafone Malta Foundation together with

Malta International Airport, I succeeded in collecting them all in one volume,” said Loreto J.Dalli.

“However, for me, the most important thing about this is that all revenue generated from the sales of

this book will go towards those who are really in need”. Dalli’s novels have always been set in a Maltese

environment in different periods.

The book includes ten stories each with a different theme featuring love and friendship. His aim was

that through his stories he would be able to give readers a glimpse of his childhood Christmases in a

typical Maltese village where traditions were still alive and an integral part of this time of the year.

Among the Maltese traditions so carefully described in his novels, Dalli includes the procession with

the Baby Jesus and the traditions tied to it.

They also features a number of different illustrations by J.L.Mallia. The cover was designed by Fiona

Vella and Carmen Dalli. Roberta Pace, Administrator at Vodafone Malta Foundation said that they

were very happy to back such a valid cause. She said, “The Vodafone Malta Foundation believes in

worthy projects and this one in particular deserved our support. It has made a dream come true for an

author who, in true Christmas spirit, has very altruistically donated all his income towards needy

children”.

dilettanti tal-karozzi iżda din is-sena kellhom raġuni oħra għaliex għandhom jattendu. Il-

mistieden speċjali ta' din is-sena ta' Paqpaqli għall-Istrina kien l-eks rebbieħ tal-Formula

1, is-sewwieq Ingliż Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton flimkien mal-Kap Eżekuttiv tal-Vodafone Malta ippreżentaw ċekk ta'

€30,000, b'risq il-Malta Community Chest Fund. Għal Lewis Hamilton illum kienet l-aħħar

wirja tiegħu mat-tim tal-McLaren Mercedes għaliex mill-kampjonat li ġej se jibda jsuq

mal-Mercedes.

Meta mistoqsi biex jagħti rendikont tal-esperjenza u x'tgħallem mall-iskuderija tal-

McLaren, Hamilton wieġeb li sa minn età żgħira hu qatt ma waqaf jitgħallem u mat-tim

tal-McLaren bena l-pedament tas-sewqan. Is-sewwieq Ingliż irrakkonta kif beda mill-'go-

carting' u mbagħad eventwalment għadda għall-Formula 2 u kif dawn il-kategoriji

differenti għenuh jitgħallem iktar dwar il-qasam tal-awtomobiliżmu. Lewis Hamilton qal li l-

esperjenza ovvjament kisibha maż-żmien u sar iktar matur biex llum il-ġurnata qed

jaħdem mat-tim tat-tekniċi tiegħu sabiex dejjem jikseb l-aħjar riżultati.

Hamilton kompla jgħid li Paqpaqi għall-Istrina hija attività "to raise your game", hekk wkoll

huwa l-motto tiegħu li biex jkun aħjar minn sewwieqa oħra jrid jgħolli l-livell tas-sewqan

tiegħu.

Lewis Hamilton paxxa lil dawk kollha preżenti, meta saq il-karozza tal-F1 fir-runway

biswit il-Lufthansa Teknik. Imma l-attività ma waqfitx s'hawn, dan għaliex il-Ferrari l-ġdida

Berlinetta, li kienet ukoll għall-wiri f'Ħal Luqa, tellqet mal-ajruplan tal-Airmalta Airbus

A320.

Internet service

Melita plc office staff ought to organise themselves if they really want to be of a service to the public.

In mid-June I contacted them by telephone, in writing and later at their Valletta outlet to advise them that I no longer required their internet service. Nothing was done about this. One day in September I was asked to go and see one of their officials at the head office.

When this official was contacted by the receptionist at first she did not know what this was all about, then eventually the receptionist looked at and copied my ID card and got me to sign a form.

Melita staff contacted me again at the beginning of October and asked me to return the modem to their head office. This was done on October 2 but now Melita is insisting that I pay for three months internet rental even though the property in question was uninhabited and there was no service during those three months.

This is because I did not send them a copy of my ID card when I first wrote to them.

Bank of Valletta’s participation in Paqpaqli ghall - Istrina

Tuesday, 11 December 2012, 17:33

President George Abela and Bank of Valletta Chief Executive Officer Charles Borg were among the few who got to pose with the McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 Car during Sunday’s Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina, whose capabilities were demonstrated by the 2009 Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Bank of Valletta, as one of the main sponsors of Paqpaqli’s 7th edition, hosted its own stand during the event which attracted thousands of motoring enthusiasts during Sunday’s fundraising event – in spite of the inclement weather.

Bank of Valletta’s support to this initiative consolidates the Bank’s commitment towards the Malta Community Chest Fund, the main part of which is its piggy bank campaign.

Mr Borg was also amongst those who swarmed round the Ferrari 12 which was sheltered inside the Lufthansa hangar. The area around Lufthansa Technik hosted an impressive display of over 1,000 local vehicles ranging from Chevrolets to ‘Fast and Furious’ style street racers and a number of ‘That 70s show’ Volkswagen vans.

Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina is the biggest annual motoring event in Malta organised by The Malta Community Chest Fund in collaboration with Tonio Darmanin and a number of volunteers, all working towards the main aim of raising funds for L-Istrina

Piggy banks being collected for counting

Wednesday, 12 December 2012, 11:50

First Lady Margaret Abela is visiting a number of schools around Malta and Gozo, collecting some of the more than 5,000 piggy banks which were distributed to classrooms last October. Tonnes of coins - a mixture of the eight different denominations - as well as notes are now being taken for sorting and counting by Bank of Valletta, a mammoth task which will take several days.

Last year, the l-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign contributed over €115,000 to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

This year, Bank of Valletta has pledged to match the amount collected from the schools, which will then be presented during l-Istrina on Boxing Day.

Students were encouraged to donate some of their pocket money to people in need. With every small donation children will be participating actively in the collection that will be utilised to help those in need.

Bank of Valletta supports l-Istrina mill-Qalb 2012 as part of its extensive Community Relations Programme, one of the largest on the island. Apart from the BOV Piggy Bank Campaign, the Bank also supports Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina, Rockesta, the August Moon Ball and Tisjir mill-Qalb, as well as encouraging its staff to take part in the President’s Fun Run by contributing half the registration fee. This year, a record 880 Bank employees, family members and friends walked or ran in the event.

Aurora Trust gets support from Bank of Valletta

Tuesday, 11 December 2012, 15:11

Over 1,000 Form 2 students spread across 15 schools have already signed up for sessions with Dr. Tim Gambin about Malta’s underwater cultural heritage.

Following the 40-minute audio-visual presentations, each of the students attending the sessions are given an interactive workbook, sponsored by Bank of Valletta for the coming three years as part of the educational initiatives falling under its Community Relations Programme.

Since this program was established in 2007 by the Aurora Trust, through the Aurora Institute for Marine Studies (AIMS) over 9,000 school children benefited from this initiative.

Aurora Trust has assembled a world class team of marine archaeologists and ocean scientists to undertake exploration of the seafloor in various locations in the Mediterranean in search of the lost remains of our maritime past.

Dr Gambin’s presentations are also supported by the Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Malta.

The sessions started in October and will continue until April 2013. For further information contact the Aurora Trust Coordinator Maria Baldacchino on [email protected]. The workbooks are also available from http://www.auroratrust.com/aims_downloads.html
