CYC boats are on the hard in many of the local yards—sanding, painting, buffing, and scrubbing—the fleet is making ready to take the bay by force! Please, if you get a chance to come out and sail with us on Thursday nights, do so! Crew or skipper, its great fun. When sailboats are going around a race course it’s a beauti- ful thing! There is a handicap for your boat so we can all race together. You may be first across the line and have a boat that finished 15 minutes behind you end up in a tie after the correction. It’s not about who is first as much as who sailed better than the week before. It’s about asking yourself, “Why are that boats’ sails trimmed the way they are?”; “If I travel down my main will I pick up speed or slow down?”; “How do I make my boat sail faster in light wind?”; “Why did the boats go in instead of going out?” Each time you go around the course, novice or seasoned, you will learn more about you and your boat and how you work with your crew, the wind and waves. So set sail with the CYC on Thursday nights. Fun and learning is what it is all about. Just a reminder Opening Day is coming, so get your gear together for our swap meet and hook up with your friends to sail on the bay opening day! There is lots of op- portunity for helping and playing! And now the last point; I regret that I will not be at the next club meeting as another road show is pulling me away. I am sorry to miss the meeting with all of you, my good friends. But employment pays moorage and buys boat toys, so I will see all of you on opening day! Sucia Island / Fossil BayCruise

Please start thinking of Sucia Island / Fossil Bay Cruise onJune 17–18. Um...why Fossil Bay and not Echo? I spoke withPark Ranger Castor and he thinks we might be able to usedock #2 those two days.

Crowds are historically down and the date following aholiday means less folks. I would like to see us raft up to thedock for Saturday night BBQ. I know some of you do not liketo raft but my boat is plastic, come along side anytime.

Further info: Carole and I will bring the main dish forBBQ, fancy hot dogs, buns, sauerkraut, potato salad and chips.Your requirements are to bring what you want to drink, a smallportioned desert to share and a historical story about the is-lands. We want folk lore [true or not] regarding one of theSan Juan Islands or past inhabitants of the islands. I say trueor not, either way, if you get it past us the prize could be yours. What’s the prize/s—nothing to do with sailing, ladies.

Help needed! Early Friday I would like two boats to goearly to secure the dock #2 in Fossil Bay. I would do so, but,my boss wants to retire Friday June 16th. So, even though he’sgoing out the door, I have been warned [Carole’s strong sug-gestion] it is necessary to be politically correct....well you allunderstand. I’ll be heading over right past the handshake andATA BOY. Please let me know who’s willing to jump in thereand help out securing the dock.

—Mike/Carole, Sosueme
