Because love is the greatest commandment, it ought to be at the center of all and everything we do in our own family, in our Church callings, and in our livelihood. Love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in per-sonal and family relationships. It is the bond that unites families, communities, and nations.

Love is the power that initiates friendship, tolerance, civility, and respect. It is the source that overcomes divisiveness and hate. Love is the fire that warms our lives with unparalleled joy and divine hope.

Love should be our walk and our talk.”

Love … comforts, counsels, cures, and consoles.”

Standing on the Promises of God Jeremiah 33: 1-18

The interesting thing about a promise is the power it has to change us long before any of the promise is even realized. Because a promise gives something to look forward to, to hope for, to anticipate, it actually holds great power in the present without even being realized until much later. God uses promises in much the same way, to change us in the present, to give us hope in the midst of despair, to anticipate something greater and better when we have little to base any joy on in the moment. Gods promises alone can empower us to live in such a way as to confound the world. It also has the power to keep us moving in the right direction against tremendous odds. The Bible teaches us that God’s promises are powerful, enough to change our lives both now and forever. Anytime we turn away from God and do things our way we end up paying a price, and sometimes it is costly! In reading Jeremiah 33, God reassured the people that his promise stands and the road of self reliance and self exaltation is a dead end! This same statement is still true today! Though God may allow difficulties into our life when we live disobediently. He does not hate or abandon us..He uses such times to refocus us in preparation for His promises. In fact, it is at such times that there is such power in promises..for they motivate us when we know they still exist! What makes it possible to go through struggles in our present lives, to even experience great joy with great losses? It is the promises of God! Ironic isn’t it, a promise is something not yet here, but has the power to completely change the way we deal with the “now.” However, Gods promises are something we can STAND ON! By standing we mean building our lives on them. One does not “stand on the promises of God” by simply quoting them, they stand on them by the way they live, as though those promises are so sure that the present choices must reflect the certainty of that coming promise. Better days are coming...this is what drives all Christians forward. Sinners always have their past catching up with them, BUT believers always have their futures catching up with them! God’s promises contain great power..they are what made men like Abraham leave their own land to go where they had never gone before, to enable men like David to hold steady when Saul was king know that God had already chosen David to be king instead, for Joseph to take Mary to himself as his wife in spite of how things looked in society with a pregnant fiancé, for Jesus to go to the cross and die..BUT GOD had the final word on all these things because His promises were given long ago..and they are good enough to live our lives by, and die by! Are you standing on God’s promises or your own self reliance?

Labor Day is always celebrated on the first

Monday in September.

Labor Day celebrates American workers and how

hard work has helped this country to do well and

prosper.

Labor Day is a national federal holiday in the

United States. Many people get the day off of

work and, since it always falls on a Monday, this

gives many people a three day weekend.

1752, they needed to adjust some days to get the seasons aligned with the months.

September was named during a time when the calendar year began with March, which is

why its name no longer corresponds with its placement in the Julian and Gregorian

calendars.

American college and professional football begins during the month of September.

Patriot Day is a day of remembrance in the United

States set aside in honor of the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. It is often re-

ferred to by the date of the attacks as 9/11 or September 11th. The citizens and people of the

United States observe this day.

The most important part of observing this day is a moment of silence that occurs at 8:46 am Eastern time. This is when the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

This is a time of prayer and remembrance of the victims who lost their lives in the terrible attack. It is also a time to reflect on freedom as well as the heroes who gave their lives saving others. The United States Flag is to be flown at half-mast wherever it is flown including

government buildings and private homes.

Patriot Day is not a federal holiday so schools, businesses, and government offices generally remain open.

Grandparents Day is a day to honor your grandparents as well as the contribution made to society from all seniors. It is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day in September. This day is celebrated in the United States. There are similar days in other countries. In some countries they have separate Grandmothers and Grandfathers Days.

There were a number of people who worked hard to see that Grandparent's Day was established as an official holiday in the United States. One lady often cited as the primary founder of Grandparent's Day is Marian McQuade of West Virginia.

Marion wanted to see a day that honored the senior citizens of the United States and the important contribution they make to our society. When the idea of Grandparents Day was first brought to the Senate in 1973, it was turned down. However, Marion continued to work in gaining support. Finally, in August of 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed the resolution making the first Sunday after Labor Day officially Grandparents Day.

In Autumn, the weather starts to get colder

and we have to start wearing coats and some-

times gloves and scarves when we go outside.

Autumn is one of four seasons. It is the

transition between Summer and Winter.

The leaves of the trees die and fall to the

ground. Lots of animals prepare to hibernate before the weather gets too cold and eat as much food

as they can in autumn so they can sleep through the winter.

The days become shorter in Autumn (so it gets dark earlier at night).

Autumn is generally the months of September, October and November. Harvest festivals are

normally celebrated in early Autumn.

Lots of other events happen in the Autumn, like Halloween,

Guy Fawkes Night in the UK and Thanksgiving in the USA.

Constitution Day celebrates the day that the United States Constitution was adopted by the Constitutional Convention in 1787. It can be considered the birthday of the United States government.

The day also celebrates US citizenship and is often called Citizen-ship Day. It is celebrated on September 17th, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. If this day falls on the weekend, many schools will pick the closest Friday or Monday to celebrate the day.

The day is mostly observed or celebrated by educational systems such as libraries and schools. Schools and libraries observe this day by having special educational programs and activities which help students learn about the Constitution. They study subjects like the

history of the Constitution, the many important amendments, and the Bill of Rights. Many school systems set aside the entire week as Constitution Week.

The official resolution to observe the day was introduced by New York Congressman Vito

Fossella. It was signed into law by President George W. Bush.

Native American Day is always celebrated on the 4th

Friday of September. This day is set aside to honor and

celebrate Native Americans, the first Americans to live in

the U.S. Still commonly referred to as American Indians,

the term "Native Americans" has been used in recent

years as a sign of respect and recognition that they were

indeed the first people to populate our great and wonder-

ful nation.

By the time the first explorers and settlers arrived from Europe, Native Americans had

populated the entire North American continent, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the

Gulf of Mexico all the way to the northern reaches of Canada.

We encourage you to spend this day, learning about Native Americans, the true original settlers

in America.

Follow our young athletes as they compete in

their various high school leagues and hopefully assist their teams towards advancing to their district playoffs. Updated scores and stats from our young men will be updated on the family webpage. Have fun and here’s to a great season!
