Ontario Peruvian Horse Association The Ontario Club has a busy agenda planned for 2010. Our winter sleigh ride at Beaconhurst Stables was cancelled due to lack of winter weather! However, nobody is complaining about the absence of snow now as we are looking forward many another occasions to share time with members of the club. CanAm Visit The next opportunity for some horse-related activity came with several members attending the CanAm in London, Ontario. Although there were no Peruvian Paso horses at the show, we all came away from the event

with good generic information regarding horses from the excellent seminars and demonstrations. The CanAm is certainly an opportunity for us to consider in future years to showcase our beautiful Peruvians. First Board Meeting Following the CanAm show, our new Board had dinner followed by its first meeting where a full agenda for the coming season was outlined.

• We plan to attend several Equine Events and will be involved in demonstrating our Peruvian Pasos in locations throughout southern Ontario.

• We will attend an exposition and trade show in Uxbridge (“Everything Equine”) on May 15 followed by a trail ride and picnic in the Ganaraska Forest on May 16.

• Val and Norm Henderson from Beaconhurst Stables will “dance” with their beautiful Peruvians in Lindsay at the “All About Horses” event on June 5&6.

• Nancy Skotar will participate in a fundraising ride for breast cancer research on June 6 in Niagara Region.

• We plan to hold one or two clinics for gaited horses with details TBA. • A Halloween Party and more trail ride events are also in the planning stage. • We are working on putting our logo on items of clothing to be worn at our special events

and demonstrations. OPHA Web page *We encourage you to visit our web page at www.PeruvianPaso.ca. There you will find a volume of information about OPHA, our members and the services they have to offer and several gorgeous Peruvian horses for sale! Newsletter In order to get to know each other a little better, Keith Worden has assembled individual photos and mini-biographies for each of the members of our association. I just have to tell you my story. Hope you don't mind. I had 3 Walkers back in Ont and had one of my mares bred and she foaled a beautiful pure black filly. I named her "Brio!" ... Coincidence? My first love, a beautiful bay gelding died of colic in 2002 and I was heart broken. I sold the mares to move out here and have been horseless since moving to Alberta 3 1/2 yrs ago. I knew that when I bought another horse that I was going to look for a gaited breed and I was already looking at the Rocky Mtn breed when I was still in Ontario. I had no idea that Peruvians even existed out here but I got connected to a lady this year that became a good friend and she bought a Peruvian 3 yrs ago because she could not ride her quarter horses any more due to a cracked vertebrae. After trying out her gelding and another mare at a breeder's I was absolutely smitten! My friend took me to Grant McKinney's training facility here in High River and he was working with a few Peruvians so I tried them out.....of course I had no idea that I was actually going to end up buying one of them at the time! What can I say......it was love at first sight with Candelero..... I tried him last and he was worth the wait....how we connect with people and animals is unexplainable but I just knew that he was the one! My friend invited me to board at her farm so she could have another Peruvian partner to ride with and that was another blessing that I am grateful for. So after spending a lot of time out at my friend's farm, which is only a 15 min drive, I am just so fascinated every time I go out, as I'm getting to know my boy. There is so much difference between the 2 Peruvians and the other 5 horses and it is so interesting to watch and observe how they behave and interact with us humans compared to the quarter horses.... but in the herd they are just another horse..... it's a whole new world for me.... I thought that I was just beginning to understand the language of equus..... now I find that I'm starting all over to learn a whole new dialect of the language! But a language is a language and communicating can be learned in any language..... I am learning to dig deep and find a whole new level of patience and self control with myself in order to gain the respect and trust of my beloved companion.... Candelero is teaching me how to conduct myself properly, to speak his language clearly and precisely..... the hardest part is to let go of the "silly human/woman emotional nonsense" that seems to always get in the way of having a really good relationship. I think I am finally learning how to have "real true" communication with my horse because he is a "real true" horse. I read somewhere in an a article that Peruvians are the most "real" horse breed in the world..... the strictness of their breeding to keep them pure and the combination of their perfectly natural gait with their "real horse" disposition and temperment has sure made me pause in awe at the wonder of their creation..... I truly do believe that the Peruvian horse is the purest example of God's original creation. They have not been so overdomesticated and tampered with to the point where they have lost the real and pure naturalness of "who they really are". Maybe the PHAC can use a new slogan like "Ride a real horse..... own a Peruvian." .... just a thought! Well I hope you don't mind me babbling on..... like I said, I am so thrilled and in love and the challenge of learning a whole new way of horsemanship thinking and doing has me beaming from the depths of my soul. And of course, I had to include a brag photo of my boy!

NEW OFFERINGS La Gringa 2005 Palomino Mare Sired by GCG Gringo - WOW — Her sire is a US National Champion and many times Regional Champion of Champions and Best Gaited Horse! This gorgeous filly is RARE. A daughter of Gringo and palomino! Well trained to the bit, she is easy to ride. Her owners are semi-retiring from horses. Her gait is excep-tional and she has much to give as a show horse. The lucky purchaser can move right into the spotlight with this one! $15,000 Cdn + GST

CM Cara del Inca - (left) 2007 Chestnut Filly—Show Quality [CM Inca Roca x Gitana Majica] This filly should go 14.2 hands. She is under saddle now. She has her sire’s fluid gait and a great temperament. If you are starting a breeding program or want to have a “forever” horse, her pedigree offers generation after generation of sound horses that have lived long useful lives. $7,000 Cdn +GST incl saddle training into the bit.

Luna Nevada CM (left)- 1997 Chestnut/rabicano Mare w/ flaxen mane and tail. We sold her as a yearling, then bought her back at 4 years! Why? Because she is a linebred Soberano line gateado mare with a scorpion tail, and epitomizes the Cayalti movement of old. Now, besides being one of the most beautiful horses in the breed, she is the dam of CM Innovación and CM Innocencia!!! Her son “Inno” has won Champion Breeding Stallion at every show in Canada, and five Champion of Champions Breeding Stallion titles and one Laureado. Her filly we are keeping is every bit as good. Luna Nevada is bred to Inca Roca for a June foal. She can produce lots more champions— will they be YOURS???. In foal to CM Inca Roca for a June Foal. $8,000 Cdn +GST

CM Diana (left) 2007 Bay / dark dun filly. No white markings. [PJP Diamante del Norte x Fiesta de Canada CM]. This filly has the sparkle and quality of gait that will attract admirers wherever she goes. Loose, flowing movement and lots of “snap”. She is a full sister of our show mare CM Nacional, and her other full sister was exported to Germany. Show home preferred. $8,000 Cdn + GST incl. saddle training.

JCG GRINGO, Sire of La Gringa, is pictured here.

Macarena CM (right) 1995 Chestnut mare [Soberano++ x Dulcecilla]. This big mare (15 hands plus) is strong and sound and very well trained. Has three years show experience and 500 points to her credit. She is an own daughter of Soberano and we have four offspring for our program. She is gentle and a good teacher for an advanced beginner. She is a great breeder but we would sell her someone who just wants to ride also, to be a good companion, or have a foal someday $5,000 Cdn to approved home.

Flash! Three more horses just came in and are available!
