FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear All,
Hope you are fine. It’s been two months now since the school had to abruptly shut down,
along with all others institutions due to the Corona Pandemic situation. Schools are closed,
but teaching continues and our online classes have been quite successful. At present this is
our only way to disseminate knowledge to our students. In the backdrop of such challenging
situations, we aim at imparting knowledge through a connection especially conducive to the
learning needs of children. Apart from online teaching, our educators are constantly helping
students by sending content, worksheets, videos and solved questions. Teachers have
proceeded with their portions, project topics have been given to students so that they can
ulitise this time doing ample research on the assignments. The Term 1, First Unit Tests will
commence from mid June for Secondary School while the rest will take the tests from July.
Yes, we are adapting to the new normal.
In our quest to balance academics and co curricular activities which is equally essential for
the physical and mental health of the children, teachers of the Performing Arts Department
and Physical Education Department have been conducting regular online classes for the
students. We have made our first ever digital appearance on the auspicious day of Rabindra
Jayanti. We have taken ten long years to come online and be visible to all of you and a strong
reason behind it is definitely the present situation. Our children have not been seen at all,
since March 19th.The school is empty without them. We miss them. We are working day and
night to ensure that their education is not hampered. We felt since children are experts in
social media, it’s time we make our presence felt, both on Instagram and Facebook.
I keep reminding my children about the VUCA world, a world that is Volatile, Uncertain,
Complex and Ambiguous. We are exactly facing that today and fresh challenges are coming
our way. It is tough for each one of us. I completely empathise with the parents, who have to
manage household chores, do work from home and at the same time keep a track of what
their children are doing, how they are progressing with their academics. I take the
opportunity to thank each and every parent, all of you, you all have been wonderful. You all
have held our hands when times were bad, you contributed in a great way, you boosted our
morale, and I appreciate each and every mail that you have sent. Your feedback on online
classes has been very encouraging.
A lot has happened since the school has launched its official Facebook and Instagram pages.
We have marked the Rabindra Jayanti Day as a Red letter day for SCIS which strongly
believes in its Bengali ethos and values, although it is an international school. Children and
teachers have celebrated Rabindra Jayanti and Nazrul Jayanti with dance and songs, we
have observed significant days like Mother’s Day, Anti Terrorism Day and Biological
Diversity Day. Children enjoyed participating in Mask Making Competition which gave
wings to their imagination while they created beautiful masks using a myriad of colours. Eid
was also virtually celebrated where students explored and exhibited their culinary skills. Our
social media platform is flooded with these activities for you to watch and enjoy, like and
comment. It’s been a long journey, more than a month , and we did not even get the
opportunity to say Good byes properly. School abruptly got shut, the country went into a
lockdown.
Finally, I wish that everyone stays well, and those with ‘at-risk’
friends and family, I have my total sympathy and solidarity.
Stay safe, have faith in God. Take care.
Warm regards,
John Andrew Bagul

my school cares about the children and keeps them busy in the quarantine."

‘We’ll Meet Again’...A video by teachers of the Secondary Department
Teachers gave a heartfelt message to the children expressing how they miss the kids and promising that they shall meet again sometime soon. They
reassured that this too shall pass and requested the children to keep smiling through just like they always do, till the blue sky drive the dark clouds
far away. Ms. Mondira Sarkar’s eloquent recitation of Kathleen O’Meara’s poem, ‘And People Stayed Home,’ written in 1869, reiterated today’s
situation.

Anti –Terrorism Day
Terrorism is an act of causing loss of life and fear of death among people by the dreadful acts of terrorists. No doubt it is an attack on the
rights of human beings. Therefore, we should come together and eliminate it by spreading love and care. South City International School
observed Anti Terrorism Day on 21st May,2020.A short video on Anti terrorism day was prepared by the students of XB, under the
guidance of their class teacher, Ms. Akshita PaulChowdhury, to raise awareness of the effects of terrorism and steps to take to prevent
such activities .
In this year 2020, at the present moment we are all faced with uncertainity and challenging situations. In this crisis of the Covid-19
pandemic, we have all been locked in our homes and are ultimately helping in reducing the pandemic spread. In this situation South City
International School has provided it's students the virtual platform and opportunity to spread awareness among people on different
topics. Thus, students of class X B had taken the initiative of video making to spread awareness against indulging in terrorism. They have
humbly requested people to stay away from fake forwards to prevent terrorising people. Furthermore they have stated how and why Anti
terrorism day has been celebrated on 21st May over the years and how we can prevent it and promote peace. It is a day which pays
tribute to our deceased Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi when people take pledge to promote peaceful activities as stated by the students in
the video.

Cultural Diversity Day
The 21st of May is celebrated as WORLD CULTURAL DIVERSITY DAY to foster respect and open-mindedness for other cultures. Amidst
everything going on in the world, we found a way of celebrating our very own Indian tribal culture, which we have named – the Indigenous Colours
of India.
All the videos were individually made by the students of the Senior Secondary Section, and then compiled into one. In the video, students spoke
about Andamanese, Santhali, Bhils and Angami tribes. These tribes are the roots of Indian culture. The main agenda behind creating this video was
to educate and inculcate within the students, a feeling of respect and appreciation for Indian culture. This video was then posted on our school
Facebook page. Students expressed their gratitude towards our respected Principal Sir, Mr. John Andrew Bagul for his constant support and
motivation.. They are also thankful to their teacher, Ms. Puja Prasad for guiding them in the process.
