SPORTS DAY REVIEWOur Pre Prep sports day was a fantastic success when held just before the half term break. Pupils were exemplary in their conduct with many comments praising them for the way they cheered and encouraged the other children, not just from their own house, but from all the houses. The obstacle course proved to be one of the most popular events with the recent edition of the parachute to climb under. In KS1, it was very impressive to see the children performing the shot putt with a high degree of skill and ability. The highlight for everyone however, has to be the featured distance race to finish. Our KS1 children were tasked to run a whole lap

of the field thinking about pace and determination which they did brilliantly, coming home to a wall of positive sound down the finish line and a finishing tape to run through. The mums’ and dads’ races were hotly contested with some particularly quick dads showing a masterclass in speed. The teacher’s race was less impressive with a total of 6 semi-serious injuries and 1 second degree friction burn! Overall, the most impressive feature was the attitude of everyone present, the positiveness, fairness and support made it a truly memorable event for the children.

AWESOME ROLE PLAY IN FS1

The FS1’s in Mrs Wel’s class have been having a great time in the new “Hair Salon” role play area. Boys and girls alike have been using fantastic vocabulary when talking about the different hair styles they should have and how long or short their hair should be. They have even been comparing the weight of the hairdryers, with the boys wanting to use the heaviest one. Mrs Wel even had a make-over! Her hair and make up was done in fantastic style by this eager group of 3 and 4 year olds. What a treat!

FS2 have been busy this week learning all about Measuring. They have been introduced to the concepts of length and height and have been using non-standard measures such as cubes and measuring clips to find out the length of different objects in the classrooms. Some groups even measured aliens as part of our ‘Awesome Aliens’ Topic and they then compared their findings and ordered the aliens according to their heights.

FS2 MEASURING MADNESS!

Mother’s Day (UK & Ireland) – 6th March 2016 Mother’s Day is a heartwarming occasion, celebrated in most nations of the world. It is a special day devoted to all mothers of the world and their children. Did you know? Historians claim that the holiday of Mother’s Day came from the ancient Greek festivals dedicated to mother goddess!

Show mum how special she is by finding the words hidden in the word search.

This week the Year One children tasted fruit. They have been reading the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and got to taste the seven fruits that Handa had taken to her friend. The children tasted a banana, an orange, guava, mango, avocado, passion fruit and pineapple. We had some interesting reactions to some of the fruit and the children thought of some excellent words to describe their taste, such as, mouth-watering, juicy, delectable and horrid.

Art DayWe have been very busy during Art Day by preparing pieces for our next topic ‘The Great Fire of London’, which we will start after the holiday. The children and their parents all got stuck in and messy! The work they created will help us transform the Year One corridor, so be prepared to be amazed next term! We would like to thank all of the parents who were able to come in to help, your support is always appreciated and the children love sharing their learning with you.

TASTY TIMES IN YEAR ONE!

The children in Year Two have worked tirelessly to produce the most stunning pieces of art inspired by the French artist Henri Rousseau. They have been working on four major projects: 2 giant pictures made up of 80 tiles; all painted individually by every child in Year Two, a huge 3D collage of the jungle and an enormous mosaic. The teachers and TLAs are so proud of everything the children have produced and we can’t wait to show it all to you at the grand unveiling – please don’t forget to mark your diaries for our Simply Inspired Exhibition on 2nd March 2016 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

SIMPLY INSPIRED SET TO BE SIMPLY THE BEST!
