NATIONAL PRESIDENT Eugene Bosch

Well over 500 camping vehicles and more than 1200 campers have moved into Til-lisonburg Fair grounds”. You can feel the excitement in the air. This was a great time, NCT’ers coming from all over the US and Canada attending a NCT National Rally in 1987. Eating, sharing stories and roasting marshmallows. Coming together in the month July making an impact on the local towns people.

Today we still come together at our National Rally in July. This year in July we are heading to California, “Wagons Ho”. Janeen and I are very excited to cross this great nation of ours, visiting as many states as we can, as we travel to and from California.

We have a smaller membership today but we have great enthusiasm. I believe we will prevail and carry on the traditions of National Camping Travelers for a long time. We have a group of excited people today and as long as we continue having programs and activities in our chapters, districts, states and National Rallies, we will grow.

Arthur G Spencer, National 1st VP

National Camping Travelers

NATIONAL FIRST VICE PRESIDENT

I hope your holidays were great and if you are a snowbird you’re travels safe!

Is spring around the corner or will we have six more weeks of wintery weather? Well, February 2 is the day Punxsutawney Phil will emerge from his burrow and let the world know. On February 2 of every year the United States and Canada celebrates Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil lives in a burrow called Gobbler’s Knob near Punxsutawney, Pennsylva-nia and in Canada an albino groundhog named Wiarton Wille annually climbs out of his hole to predict the future forecast. Groundhog Day comes from our agricultural past and marks the halfway point to the spring equinox. There are a lot of facts and folklore about Groundhog Day and it is much more than a wacky weather prediction from a plump marmot. Here in California our 2020 camping season is starting in February, so Punxsutawney Phil give us some good news.

My focus for the year has been on Communication and the Board has continued to hold to that focus with con-ference calls and emails. While communicating is very important so is membership and I don’t want you to lose sight of the importance of gaining new members. My challenge to each Chapter is to bring in at least one new member this year and I urge each of you to reach out to your Lodge Brothers and Eastern Star Sisters.

I am asking the MOT’s and District/Providence Directors to keep the National Director informed of the status of their Chapter(s). This information is vital and will help the Board to make decisions that will allow NCT to remain strong for many years to come.

I also want to give a great big thank you to David Fant, National Secretary for the wonderful job he is doing with the publication of News to Campers along with all of his other numerous duties. THANK YOU David!

I hope to see many of you at the 2020 National Rally at Casa de Fruta in California.

Fraternally,

Gene and Karen

NATIONAL SECOND VICE PRESIDENT - David Brigham

Greetings Campers!

We are trying to stay warm here in Florida. Our weather has been very differ-ent this year; some days in the 70s - 80s and other days in the 40s - 50s. Nev-er know which way it's going.

We have welcomed many friends back to the campground and several new faces. It seems if you are not a Mason when you visit us, you are quick to be-come one before you leave us. The Snowbird luncheon at Homer's in Sebring was very well attended. Good food, good friends. We have also enjoyed a shrimp boil with the Tennessee chapter. The Snowbird luncheon in Zeph-yrhills will have a good attendance.

As a reminder, everyone should be talking about NCT and the activities that can be enjoyed with the group. Encourage your fellow Masons to join NCT. Several chapters have closed this past year. Our population is ag-ing but they are also trying to stay active. What better way to stay active than to camp than to camp with other Masons.

This is the News to campers that we vote for New National officers, and proposed By-laws changes. I encour-age all members of NCT to send in your vote.

We are looking forward to the National rally in California, Hope to see you there.

Dave and Mary Brigham

Another great winter for the Fant Household! We were able to head to the Masonic Park in Wimauma, Florida a couple of days after Christmas caravanning with PNP Jack and Patty Mulhall. Having missed Florida in 2019, we were anxious to have a warm winter—not unlike last years. Also enjoyed traveling with our new Motor Home Roof! After not being able to use the Rig since the National Rally, it felt great to be “on the road again”! Since our arrival in Florida on New Year’s Eve we have enjoyed great weather and enjoyed seeing the friends we missed last year while here at the District 5 Picnic held here in the Masonic park. We were able to watch the presentation of the Charter for the “Lincoln Trail Campers” our newest NCT chapter based in Indiana!

As is the standard procedure this is the Ballot issue of News to Campers. When you get to page 5 you will see a complete slate of officers and a number of By-law proposals. These are important decisions that you will make. Changes that are made will affect our organization for years to come. Be sure to read the infor-mation on the by-laws on page 7 following the ballot. This is your NCT so be sure to vote. This year the deadline for mailing your ballot is May 10th which is on a Sunday so be sure to mail your ballot before the last minute.

Now the Best News! Camping season is coming for the Members in the Northern States ! I know our NCT Members in the South have already been camping all year. But for those in the Northern Tier and Cana-dian Providences who don’t come south, all camping is indoors from November to April! So Dust off your rigs, Get it ready to roll and enjoy a new season of Camping!

Until Next time, Let there be peace on Earth.

Dave, Pam and Alex too

We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends of those whose members have been called to the Celestial Lodge above where the Supreme Architect of the Universe presides. Our Thoughts and prayers are

with each and everyone of you during this difficult time.

News to Campers

You will note that this issue is different from past issues. This is not by accident. It is dif-ferent for a reason. In my communique to the Chapter Secretaries and the Board in Decem-ber, I indicated that the cost of printing and mailing the News to Campers DOUBLED. Nu-merous ways of reducing the cost have been considered, discussions have taken place, new printers have been contacted for estimates, and suggestions from members received. This dif-ferent issue is one trial. Other options are to eliminate the December issue, send more via Email, use the Website as a better ways of getting information out—perhaps more frequently, eliminate photos, go back to Black and White, perhaps it means to increase the dues to cover the cost. The Board is interested in your thoughts and ideas. Send your thoughts to the Na-tional Office via Email (use [email protected] ) and I will forward your ideas to the Board and include them in the June Issue as well.

CANDITATES FOR NATIONAL OFFICES,

Third Vice President; Brian Pickett: NCT # 22140 Joined February 23, 2012 Member of Eastern Square Wheelers Chapter# 11, Asst Wagon Master (2013-2014), Wagon Master (2014+2015), Master of Travel (2015-2016); International Police Squad Club (NJ Chapter), Edison First Aid Squad. Mount Zion Lodge #135, Metuchen, NJ Second Vice President: Luther “Les” Hall: NCT# 22013, Joined Sept 15, 2009, Member Suwannee River Travelers Chapter # 229, Secretary (2009-2010),Wagon Master (2010-2011), Master of Travel (2011-Present). National Rally Chairman (2013), National Director (2016-2017), National Photographer (2016-2018). Florida State Director (2016– Present). Member of First United Methodist Church of Live Oak, FL (Past Treasurer); Wellborn Lodge #13 F&AM Wellborn, FL; Grace Chapter #8 OES Wellborn, FL, Retired Undersheriff (Chief Deputy) Suwannee County (Retired); Classroom Teacher, Lake City Middle School (2005-2008), Married wife Joy, 44 Years. National Trustee: Andrew “Andy” Krasnansky: Current Incumbent Sr. National Trustee completing First 4 yr. term. NCT # 14861, Member Penn East Chapter #12.

BY Law Proposals RED = Delete : Italics= Addition Proposed Change #1; (Listed on Ballot As: Delete Restriction for Women to Hold Chapter Office of Master of Travel or Wagon Master) Bylaw Article 3, Sec2d currently reads: “A member’s spouse may vote and hold office in the Constituent Chapter of which they are members, with the exception of Wagon Master and Master of Travel who must be Master Masons.” Proposed New Bylaw : “A Master Mason’s member’s spouse and /or a member of the order of Eastern Star who is a member of NCT may vote and hold any office in the Constituent Chapter of which they are members. , with the exception of Wagon Mas-ter and Master of Travel who must be Master Masons.” Article 1 Sec 6b: Is also changed under Change 1; “No member may submit or be nominated for a National elected Office unless he is a Master Mason and has served and completed a full term as Master of Travel.” Rational For the Change: Some of our Constituent Chapters are struggling for members who are willing to step up and lead our Chapters. This change would allow the female members of our Chapters to serve in any office including Wagon Master and Master of Travel. This would help many NCT Chapters to survive helping to preserve NCT for years to come. We now allow members of the OES to be members of NCT. Many of the spouses and members of OES have held leadership position elsewhere. They are qualified to be the leaders of the local Chapters of NCT. Therefore they should be permitted to hold the positions of Wagon Master and Master of Travel along with the other positions they are now permitted to hold in their Constituent Chapters. Rational Against the Change: National Camping Travelers was founded on the principle of elected leadership of Master Masons. To change this basic concept changes the culture of the organization. The contribution made by Spouses to the organization is duly recog-nized and appreciated. Changing the basic structure on which NCT was founded is only a short term fix and will not help the Chapters struggling for leadership and membership in the long term. ********************************************************************************************************** Proposed Change #2; ( Listed on Ballot As: Board Members may hold only one National Board Office at a time)

By Law Article 1, Sec 6g currently reads: “ A member may hold only one office at the same time: All offices of Directors are included. Replace with Proposed New Sec 6g: :” Members of the National Board of Directors may hold only one National Board Office at a time.” Rational for change is for Clarification of Sec 6g. ********************************************************************************************************^^ Proposed Change #3 (Listed on Ballot as: Allow a National Rally Team) Article 1 Sec 12a is Changes as follows (Red underlined is deleted from current and Black Bold Italics is addition to current): “Dates The Annual Meeting and the National Camping Travelers North American Rally shall ordinally be held (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) no later than the third full week of July or no earlier than the first full week of July of each year, at such a place as bid for by constituent Chapter(s) or proposed by a National Rally Team and approved by the National Board of Directors. When adherence to this time would prevent the bidder or National Rally Team from obtaining a more suitable site, the Board, when approving the bid, proposal may authorize the holding of the National meeting to coincide with the availability of the site selected. The membership will be notified of the exact date, time and location of the Annual Meeting and National Rally in the NEWS TO CAMPERS.” Rational for changes: As most chapters are no longer of a size to be able to host or present a bid, the handling of a rally may be delegated to a Rally Team. The Team will then submit a proposal to the Second VP in accordance with Article 1, Sec 6f.

Eastern Square Wheelers Chapter #11 N.J.

Greetings Fellow Campers,

We gathered at the Don Laine Campground in Palmerton, Pa. for our August campout. We had 9 rigs attending. This is a beautiful mountain top campsite. On Friday evening, we gathered for hospitality, which was provided by Joe and Blanche Jaggers. We had delicious hot roast beef sandwiches and all the trimmings. Saturday morning, we held our monthly chapter meeting and as a charity project we collected 35 backpacks and various school supplies to fill them. This is the second year that we have undertaken this project to sup-port the Beverly United Methodist Church. They provide daily meals for under privileged children over the summer break from school and in August and September, they distribute the backpacks and the supplies to the children. Saturday afternoon, a group took a scenic ride on The Lehigh Gorge Railway. Later Saturday, we held our annual club picnic. For the first time in several years, the weather co-operated. Sunday, we held our church service, and everyone departed after lunch.

Our September campout was held at the Country Oaks Campground in Dorothy, N.J. We had 11 rigs in attendance and two drive ins for Saturday. Friday evening hospitality was provided by Norm and Andrea Surran. We had Sloppy Joe’s and various salads and desserts. After hospitality the ladies played cards and the men sat around the campfire. At our monthly meeting on Saturday, we had our second charity project for the year. We gathered four large shopping bags full of personal toiletries and $200 dollars in Wal Mart gift cards, which we delivered to the Vineland Veterans Home. These gifts are used as prizes for their Bingo nights, which are conducted by several of the Masonic Districts. Saturday afternoon we had an Ice Cream Social with all the toppings. Why not have desert first. Later that day we had a wet down for Joe and Blanche Jaggers new Montana fifth wheel trailer. Yes, we spent the whole weekend eating! Due to the uncertain weather, we held our church service on Saturday evening following the wet down.

Our October campout was a joint venture with the Most Worthy Grand Matron and her staff at the Seashore Campground in Cape May. We had 15 rigs and 15 cabin rentals. The meals were provided by Christopher Earle, JoAnn Bingenheimer’s Son. We had three choices of soups, salads and rolls for Friday evening dinner. Saturday morning the club prepared a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast, followed by our monthly meeting. Saturday evening dinner was a wonderful Turkey dinner with all the fixings. JoAnn and Herb Tomer were the co-chairs for the rally, and they did a very good job and we thank them.

Our November Campout was held at Shady Pines Campground in Galloway N.J. We had 10 rigs in attendance. We had lovely autumn weather but unfortunately, we were unable to have any campfires, so we gathered in the beautiful recreation hall and played cards. Saturday evening, we had our traditional Thanks-giving dinner with all the trimmings.

In December we gathered at Mt Holly Lodge for our annual Christmas party. We had 36 in attend-ance. Due to the increasing cost of going to a restaurant Fran Levering, Rheda Bowen and Faye Bisciglia of-fered to cater the party. We had a delicious roast beef and chicken diner, and of course we had enough de-serts to feed an army. The Club decided to donate $200 dollars from our charity fund to one of Fran’s grand-nieces. Emily is a sixteen-year-old who is suffering from cancer for the second time. In Addition to the mon-ey from the charity fund, we passed the hat and collected and additional $450 dollars. Emily’s family was very grateful for our help. She entered the hospital and on Christmas eve had a procedure done and had to stay for one month. The results look very promising and the treatments continue. Please keep Emily Messen-ger and her family in your prayers.

We hope everyone had an enjoyable New Year and we look forward to the new camping season.

Love and Faith,

Edna Kunze

West Virginia Pioneer Travelers # 200

Several of WV Pioneer Travelers’ members traveled to Florida for the winter months: among them are the Aylestock’s, Groves’, Gregory’s, Bragg’s, Minor’s and Yost’s. The White’s came down for the Tampa RV Show.

On January 8, the Aylestock’s and Groves’ attended a surprise 90th birthday for Jack Johnson at the Ma-sonic Youth Park.

We attended the Snowbird luncheon at Homers in Sebring hosted by Ohio Chapter 1. Larry Aylestock welcomed the 59 NCT’ers that attended. Jack Mulhall spoke about NCT information that would in the up-coming News to Campers.

There were five Past Presidents in attendance: Bob Powers, Jim Fuhrman, Ron Cobes, Jack Mulhall and Larry Aylestock.

We had a wonderful gathering and a fantastic luncheon with lots of fun and fellowship and now are look-ing forward to next luncheon in Zephyrhills at the Golden Corral later in February.

We are also looking forward to the Spring campouts with our club and the 55th National Rally in Hollister, California. Hoping everyone comes out and supports Eugene and Karen Boesch as they host “Westward Ho” at the Casa de Fruta RV Park in Hollister, California in July.

Masonic Campsites Across America? Do you know of Masonic Lodges, Masonic Homes, Shrines, and Shrine Clubs that allow parking

or camping at their facilities? How about Campgrounds owned or operated by Masonic groups, or are just Masonic friendly?

Many NCTers have asked me if there is a Masonic campground directory. I know of none, but I do know of some Masonic related campgrounds in Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and Florida, and a Lodge in New Bruswick, Canada interested in having Masonic families stay in their parking lots.

With your help I would like to put a campground directory together that can be posted on gonct.org . Please send me any locations that you know of, or would like me to investigate for the pos-sibility of accommodating Masonic families in their travels around the US and Canada.
