“Kill two birds with one stone” is a popular idiom that says that it’s possi-

ble to solve two problems with one device or one action. With this inaugural

column I figured I would apply this idiom to the topic at hand: scammers.

What if you could educate existing and potential customers about scammers

AND showcase your business at the same time? Furthermore, what if you

could do this from the comfort of your home office or couch? Turns out you

can. Facebook has made it very convenient to communicate with our neighbors

and communities. If you have not already joined your neighborhood or com-

munities Facebook Group(s), do so. Once you are part of the Group (s), do

your best to relay what you know about scammers and how your neighbors/

community can protect themselves from being scammed. Use the opportunity

to introduce your company and offerings as well. Inform the consumer AND

promote your business. You know, kill

two birds with one stone.

November's Meeting: The subject is How to Open a

Kaba Series 1000 Lock. We will give some details about the lock and continue where Ray Sinai, CML left off at the last meeting.

Ray’s Ways —

“What is Networking All About….

Why Join the Locksmith Security Association ?” -by Ray Sinai, CML LSA Newsletter Editor; Past LSA President

The Locksmith Security Association of Michigan PAGE 7

Last month I submitted a question to the membership via the newsletter. I was in need of Dexter keyway cylinders. Since Dexter has been extinct for more than two decades, it seems that all of the (aftermarket) manufacturers have ceased producing the Dexter keyway cylinder. In response to my request, I was given a full box of Dexter mortise cylinders by our Vice Presi-dent, Jim Whidden. I offered to pay him for the cylinders and he refused my money. This is the true essence of Networking. Forty years ago, when I started my locksmith career, there were those in the trade that wouldn’t give me the time of day. They didn’t want their “trade se-crets” to be known. I realize that it is a different time now, you can get most information regarding our trade via the internet, as long as you know what you are looking for. It is also about the human con-nection, fellow tradesmen helping each other. In my effort to give back to the Locksmith Security Association, I have a few items that might be of use to my fellow locksmiths. If you are interested in any of these items, please let me know. I will be happy to bring these items to the next meeting, but I since my van has limited space, I can’t bring them all unless I am shown some interest. Here are a few items that I am willing to part with for no charge.

♦ I phone model 5 ♦ Black and Decker router, mainly used for wood ♦ Various (used) combination padlocks ♦ Rubbermaid plastic 3 tier 4 - wheeled cart (great for moving tools and materials on jobs in large

facilities) ♦ Master shop sign / clock ♦ “OPEN “ sign for shop ♦ Lab brand .005 bottom pins (various sizes), new in packages ♦ HPC code books ♦ Various plastic bins for storing parts ♦ A large collection of AL series Schlage levers – take offs, great for parts (used) ♦ A large collection of Kwikset residential knobs and deadbolts – various finishes (used) ♦ A large collection of Kaba / Unican parts for L1000 lever and 1000 knobs (used) ♦ Numerous Adams Rite electric release faceplates (new)

Sorry, you must be an LSA member to receive these items. If you are interested in any of these items, contact me and I will bring to the next meeting. I can be reached at [email protected] or 248 321 4896. See you all soon.
