*Affirmation of Faith The Apostle’s Creed UMH 881

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

WELCOME | We are glad you chose to worship with us today! Please enjoy some coffee and refreshments in the Stars Cafe before the service begins. During the service, you will have a chance to respond to the message using your Connection Card. Please complete the card and return it to us in the baskets at the rear of the Worship Center. For our first-time guests, we have a special gift available for you as you leave the Worship Center.

THAT’S MY JAM! | This summer, we are doing a series based on your favorite music...and we need your help! Share with us your favorite "jams." What was the music that influenced you as a teenager? What songs inspire you to sing at the top of your lungs when driving down the road? Let us know before May 21 (that’s next Sunday!) by sending us a message on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram @11contemporary. Be sure to use the hashtag #MyJam, and we will use some of your favorites for our series.

WHAT’S NEXT? | We want to help you with the “next step” in your faith journey. At the end of the service, we will identify three easy steps for you. However, your next step may be something we have not identified because that step is different for everyone. Use your Connection Card or stop by our Guest Services Desk in the Stars Cafe and let us help you discover some practical “next steps” just for you. Discover more online at www.bethlehemfirstumc.com/next.

#SUNDAYSONGS | Music for today’s gathering: “This is Amazing Grace,” “One Thing Remains,” “The Lord Our God,” “Spring of Life,” and “How Great is Our God.”

MORNING WORSHIP | SUNDAY, MAY 14, 2017 | 11:00 AM FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER | MOTHER’S DAY

CHORAL PRELUDE / BRINGING IN THE LIGHT Rhonda Hambright

CALL TO WORSHIP Stephen Smith In you, O God, every family on earth receives its name. Illumine our homes with the light of your love. We thank you for the many gifts of love we have received. From our mothers and those who have served as mothers in many ways, nourishing us and guiding us as we grow to be who we are. As we have been loved by them, so we are loved by you, O God. Join with us in this day of celebration as we rejoice in being loved. As you grant us peace in Christ Jesus our Lord, so we come to worship in His holy name.

INVOCATION Stephen Smith Dear God, we thank you for the love of our mothers and those who serve as mothers in so many ways. They nurture our spirits, cheer us and console us, reassure and encourage us in our daily walk. We are grateful for their love and for yours. We are ever thankful, too, O God, that like our mothers who nurture and guide us, you gather us as your children. You comfort and hold us in your warm embrace. When we are afraid your wings protect us and when we are hungry you feed us with the bread of life. We are grateful, O God, that your never ending love surrounds and supports us, in good times and in tough, in the midst of joy and pain, always and everywhere. You will never leave nor abandon us. God eternal and loving one, God with a mother’s heart, we give thanks and praise to you this day. Amen
