Waikerie Lutheran Primary School
Newsletter
Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a supportive Christian community, equipping each student for life.
Message from the PrincipalMessage from the PrincipalMessage from the PrincipalMessage from the Principal Respect is underrated. I can appreciate that in Australia we have everything
we need and more which makes it so hard to practise respect for property
particularly. With that being the only true defence for disrespectful people,
where have we gone wrong? Where has the tide turned from respect to
disrespect? You may think it is a harsh call, but there is no medium ground in
being respectful or disrespectful. It is one thing that you either practise or
you don’t, in all areas of your life.
At Waikerie Lutheran Primary School, it is a PYP attitude and also a Christian value embedded
in everything we do. The easiest starting point for true respect is respecting equipment. It’s
nothing personal, just making sure that what you are given is respected in the manner you
should treat something that is free. Here at school, that is primarily respecting the
opportunity for an education. At school, kids are taught to respect their stationary.
Remember snapping a ruler, or drawing on it, throwing pencils around the room or simply
snapping the leads? (I do) How about at home – leaving toys out in the backyard, leaving the
lights on, leaving shoes and socks around? (I do)
And for us adults, when was the last time the car got the attention and respect that a big
ticket item deserves? (I’ve cleaned the car twice this year). How about the respect that your
body deserves (I have attempted twice this year to try and get into shape for next season’s
footy).
I think it is fair to say that we are all disrespectful to varying degrees. Respect is something
that no one has down packed and we can always get better at. Respecting the little things
that we have is a great starting point, but it is only that. Next week’s piece may shed some
light on the essence of practising true respect, but for now, we have a good starting point.
So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true
riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you
property of your own? (Luke 16:11-12).
We pray: God, help us to be grateful for everything you have given us. Help us to look after
and maintain the possessions that we have, as by looking after our possessions, we may
practise how to care for others. Amen.
Have a great week!
DO you like to sing?? DO you love Christmas??
We are looking for YOU!
If you are interested in joining a youth choir to perform at the Waikerie Lutheran Church
Christmas Eve service please contact Tara Hart at [email protected]!
The service will be (you guessed it!) on Christmas Eve, December 24 at
7:30pm. We will provide music to listen to and to look at to help you
learn the two songs at home. We will have one practice on December 23
and another one on the afternoon of December 24. We hope you will
join us as we look forward to singing "Glory to the newborn King"!

perform 2 songs - “This Baby” and “Silent
Night”. If your child would like to be involved, please

Christmas Advent Pageant
Students from Waikerie Lutheran Primary
School will join with other primary school
students for the Advent Pageant through
the streets of Waikerie on Friday, 7th December, between
10.00am - 12 noon (meeting at the Waikerie Primary
School tennis courts at 9:30am). The procession of
students will be as per previous years. All students are
encouraged to dress in clothes appropriate to the theme
of the morning, eg. shepherds, kings/wise men, angels,
donkeys, sheep and stars.
Waikerie Christmas Pageant
WLPS has been invited to put in a float for
the Waikerie Christmas Pageant, on Friday,
30th November. If your child would like to
be a part of the pageant please advise the
office so we can make sure we have enough lollies to hand
out during the pageant. Children will need to dress in
nativity costumes, eg Angels, Shepherds, Wise men, stars
etc for the pageant. If your child would like to be part of
the pageant, but does have not a costume, please advise
the office and we will try to arrange a costume for you.
Parents and Friends of WLPS! For this year’s
Christmas pageant, we are thinking of
shushzing up our bus or creating a float for
the pageant that is more than just a bus with
tinsel on it. If there are parents out there with artistic flare
and great ideas, please see the girls in the office!
School Fees Term 4 School fees are due this week. Thank
you to those parents who have paid their fees. If
you are experiencing difficulty paying your

Expressions of Interest Expressions of Interest Expressions of Interest Expressions of Interest ---- Teaching Contract Term 1, 2013 Teaching Contract Term 1, 2013 Teaching Contract Term 1, 2013 Teaching Contract Term 1, 2013 WLPS is calling for “Expressions of Interest” for a teaching contract for Term 1, 2013 in Upper Primary (this is also being
included in the Rivernews). We have chosen to advertise in this way as quite often, teachers will already be teaching
within the Waikerie Community and need only to raise an interest in the position to begin the formal process of applying.
Relevant and up-to-date teaching qualifications need to be provided, along with a resume if an interview is
sought. Applicants have until COB on the 28th
to express their interest.

I could not resist attaching these pictures – above – though I am uncertain if they will come out very well in the black and
white of the newsletter – might not quite do them justice. These pictures are part of the latest series of pictures done by
the “chalk man”. The pictures are done on the sidewalk with chalk and are in fact flat. The comment made is that “this
man is artistically talented beyond the visual boundaries of sight.” The Christmas picture is very topical for this time of
year which is what made me think to use this in my corner of peace contribution for this week. (I can send the originals to
anyone who gives me their e-mail address if you want them)
When we see something as amazing as this talent it cannot help but cause us to pause for reflection. Things in life might
not be just as we would like them to be, and often it is also tempting to doubt that we can do anything worthwhile with
the little we may have at our disposal. However this man had a sidewalk and a box of coloured chalk and look what he
could do.
Our loving Creator has given each of us something special inside of us, different for each of us, but He wants us to believe
in ourselves and allow that something special to stretch its wings (so to speak) and fly.
God Bless, Moira

Discovery Club
Dear Parents,
Discovery Club is on again at the Waikerie Social Centre on Friday, 16th November from 3:45pm until 5:00pm.
Discovery Club is a time when children aged 5-12 can listen to God’s Word, be involved in craft activities and games and
have fun. There is no cost involved and children are supplied afternoon tea. It would be wonderful if your child/children
could come.
We will be using the school bus to transport students from school to the Social Centre. For this week the Parish
Discovery Club fund is paying for the bus. Tim Hensel will be riding on the bus with the students and Robert Kalisch will be
driving the bus. During Discovery Club there will be several adults assisting Tim, including Corrin Dubrich, Lorraine
Fechner and Sharon Perry.
Thank you and God bless,
From Discovery Club Members
