• We will leave school just before lunchtime on Wednesday 8th June.

• We will return to school on Friday 10th June around 3pm.

What is the accommodation What is the accommodation like?like?• Children will be staying in Kemp Lodge – it’s brand

new!!• Children sleep in dormitories of 8 (single sex) in bunk

beds. This means we can take a maximum of 16 girls and 16 boys!

• In the lodge there are 4 children’s dormitories, boys toilets and showers, girls toilets and showers, dining area (used as our discussion room) and then a staff dormitory.

• There is also a kitchen but the visit is catered.

• Bed linen/ pillows and towels are NOT provided so children must bring their own.

• The site is very large but also very secure.

• At the entrance is a gated area.• A perimeter fence marks the

border of the site.• Children will be supervised at

all times as the site is so large.• All staff are enhanced CRB

checked.• Other schools may be in the

centre on day visits or residential visits at the same

time but are usually the same age phase and are also

supervised.

Meal arrangementsMeal arrangements• Breakfast, lunch and evening

meals are all prepared, cooked and provided by the centre.

• Special dietary requirements are catered for, providing the centre staff are made aware of them in advance.

• Food is plentiful!• On the day of departure,

children will need to bring their own packed lunch. Lunch is provided by the centre on the last day before we leave.

• PSHE- Reflecting on their experiences each evening through circle time. Working as a team providing encouragement for each other.

• Geography- Map reading in orienteering.• P.E.- Endless physical activities, all designed to

tire the children out during the day so they sleep each night.

• Numeracy- Counting how many times you can capsize your kayak before finally staying upright.

• Calculating how much money they have to buy presents for their family!

My child has never been away My child has never been away before? What if he/she is before? What if he/she is

homesick?homesick?• When we arrive all parents/carers will receive a text from a school phone to say we have arrived safely.

• Future contact is then only made in an emergency as we try to encourage the children to be independent.

• We are, of course, very close should there be a problem.

• Children are constantly on the go and therefore have little time to think of you back at home (sorry!)

• We are very caring and understanding teachers, and will look after your ‘precious bundles of joy’ as we would our own.

• Hair, teeth and general hygiene will be checked!

There are a range of activities available for children to take part in. During their residential they will take part in 8 day time activities (chosen by us) and 2 hours of evening activities each evening.

SafetySafety • Many parents worry about

the safety of their children.• At Walesby, all of the

instructors are fully qualified both in the activities themselves and in first aid.

• The children are instructed very clearly about the safety aspects of every activity and the instructors lead by example. •Items of safety clothing and

equipment, E.g. helmets, life jackets etc, are checked and provided by the centre staff.

ClimbingClimbing and and AbseilingAbseiling• All children are encouraged to try

but are NOT forced.• A variety of climbs are available to

suit all abilities from easy to quite challenging (25ft-45ft)

• Traverse climbing (sideways wall) is also available for children who aren’t so keen on climbing upwards!

• Abseiling (climbing down) takes place on the same walls

KayakingKayaking• Instructors are in the

water at all times with the children.

• The water is not deep, children will easily be able to stand up if they capsize. (waist deep)

• Children will need warm/ old clothing and swim wear to put on underneath.

• Life vests are worn by all children.

Shop!Shop!• There is a little shop where

children can purchase small gifts.

• It is suggested that children can bring about £5.

• We will bring some ‘goodies’ to share with the children so they won’t need to bring any sweets or spend their money on them. Bags will be checked!

CostsCosts• The total cost of the visit is heavily subsidies by the

governors. It includes all activities, accommodation, food and drinks. Therefore it will only cost you £70 per child!

• A deposit of £10 is required to book your child a place.

• A further payment of £15 is required by 26th November 2015. This completes the deposit required and secures your child’s place.

• Once the deposit is paid, a savings card will be issued. You can then use this to pay towards the cost in instalments of any amount/any time.

• The rest of the payment is due in three instalments. A further £15 by 21st January 2016, £15 by 17th March and then a final payment of £15 by 21st April.

• If you paid each week (excluding the half term, Christmas and Easter holidays) it works out at just £2.30 per week!

• Children can bring up to £5 spending money.
